Vikin Maritime Museum
Icelanders have from the time of settlement depended on fishing. Settlement at Faxaflói Bay was founded on fishing and fish processing. Since the 19th century, the growth of Reykjavik and nearby Hafnarfjörður was largely based on the fisheries, as well as improved living conditions in the 20th century. The fishing industry has been the foundation of prosperity in Iceland.
The role of Vikin-Maritime Museum in Reykjavik is to present a living record of this most dynamic aspect of Iceland's history.
The Maritime Museum
The Reykjavík Maritime Museum is housed in a newly renovated former fish factory. Located by Reykjavík's old harbour, a pleasant stroll from the city centre.
The museum's varied exhibitions show the development of the Icelandic fish industry and coast culture through the years.
The Coast Guard Ship Óðinn (probably Iceland's largest historical relic!) is docked next to the museum. Óðinn served in all three Cod Wars during the last century and played an important role in rescue work at sea. Other ships of historical significance, such as Iceland's first steel ship Magni, lie by the museum docks for guests to explore. Guided tours daily at 13:00, 14:00 and 15:00.

The Icelandic Phallological Museum is probably the only museum in the world to contain a collection of phallic specimens belonging to all the various types of mammal found in a single country. Phallology is an ancient science which, until recent years, has received very little attention in Iceland, except as a borderline field of study in other academic disciplines such as history, art, psychology, literature and other artistic fields like music and ballet. Now, thanks to The Icelandic Phallological Museum, it is finally possible for individuals to undertake serious study into the field of phallology in an organized, scientific fashion.
The Icelandic Phallological Museum contains a collection of more than two hundred and fifteen penises and penile parts belonging to almost all the land and sea mammals that can be found in Iceland. Visitors to the museum will encounter fifty six specimens belonging to seventeen different kinds of whale, one specimen taken from a rogue polar bear, thirty-six specimens belonging to seven different kinds of seal and walrus, and one hundred and fifteen specimens originating from twenty different kinds of land mammal: all in all, a total of two hundred and nine specimens belonging to forty six different kinds of mammal, including specimens from Homo Sapiens. It should be noted that the museum has also been fortunate enough to receive legally-certified gift tokens for four specimens belonging to Homo Sapiens.

More Sights in Reykjavik, Iceland
Another rainy day in Reykjavik but who cares when dressed properly and carrying an umbrella? There's a lot more to see. We eliminated a few popular sights because they would be included in the cruise tour tomorrow.
A walk down to the old harbor where visitors sign up for whale watching and puffin tours, visit to the Sunday morning flea market which did not impress. If you are into vintage aka used clothing, the market is the spot to go but if not, there wasn't much of interest.
Old Harbour in Reykjavik (Grandi)
Old Harbour in Reykjavik (Grandi)
Over the past few years, Grandi harbour has transformed into a cultural fixture of Reykjavík. Bursting with shops, restaurants, and museums, the former fishing-district has invigorated downtown life, while paying homage to the fishing roots that allowed this small town to grow into the capital of Iceland.
Harpa
Harpa Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Centre. Harpa is one of Reykjavik‘s greatest and most distinguished landmarks. It is a cultural and social centre in the heart of the city and features stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the North Atlantic Ocean.
