Places to see in ( Chicago - USA )
Places to see in ( Chicago - USA )
Chicago, on Lake Michigan in Illinois, is among the largest cities in the U.S. Famed for its bold architecture, it has a skyline punctuated by skyscrapers such as the iconic John Hancock Center, 1,451-ft. Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower) and the neo-Gothic Tribune Tower. The city is also renowned for its museums, including the Art Institute of Chicago with its noted Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works.
Steely skyscrapers, top chefs, rocking festivals – the Windy City will blow you away with its low-key cultured awesomeness. It's hard to know what to gawp at first. High-flying architecture is everywhere, from the stratospheric, glass-floored Willis Tower to Frank Gehry's swooping silver Pritzker Pavilion to Frank Lloyd Wright's stained-glass Robie House. Whimsical public art studs the streets; you might be walking along and wham, there's an abstract Picasso statue that's not only cool to look at, but you're allowed to go right up and climb on it. For art museums, take your pick: impressionist masterpieces at the massive Art Institute, psychedelic paintings at the mid-sized Museum of Mexican Art or outsider drawings at the small Intuit gallery.
Loosen your belt – you've got a lot of eating to do. On the menu: peanut-butter-and-banana-topped waffles for breakfast (at Stephanie Izard's Little Goat), a chicken, apple and cranberry hot dog for lunch (at Hot G Dog), and 20 courses of centrifuged, encapsulated molecular gastronomy for dinner (at Grant Achatz' Alinea). You can also chow down on a superb range of ethnic eats from Vietnamese pho to Mexican carnitas, Polish pierogi and Macanese fat rice. Still hungry? Order a late-night deep-dish pizza.
Chicago is a maniacal sports town, with a pro team for every season (two teams, in baseball's case). Watching a game is a local rite of passage, whether you slather on the blue-and-orange body paint for a Bears football game, join the raucous baseball crowd in Wrigley Field's bleachers, or plop down on a bar stool at the neighborhood tavern for whatever match is on TV. Count on making lots of spirited new friends. Should the excitement rub off and inspire you to get active yourself, the city's 26 beaches and 580 parks offer a huge array of play options.
Chicago knows how to rock a festival. Between March and September it throws around 200 shindigs. The specialty is music. Blues Fest brings half a million people to Millennium Park to hear guitar notes slide and bass lines roll, all for free. During the four-day Lollapalooza mega-party, rock bands thrash while the audience dances in an arm-flailing frenzy. Smaller, barbecue-scented street fests take place in the neighborhoods each weekend – though some rival downtown for star power on their stages (oh, hey, Olivia Newton-John at Northalsted Market Days).

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:

SUMMARY
=======
Chicago ( (listen), locally also ), officially the City of Chicago, is the third most populous city in the United States. As of the 2017 census-estimate, Chicago has a population of 2,716,450, which makes it the most populous city in both the state of Illinois and the Midwestern United States. It is the county seat of Cook County, the second most populous county in the United States. Chicago is the principal city of the Chicago metropolitan area, which is often referred to as Chicagoland. The Chicago metropolitan area has nearly 10 million people, is the third-largest in the United States, the fourth largest in North America, and the third largest metropolitan area in the world by land area.
Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, Chicago was incorporated as a city in 1837 near a portage between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River watershed and grew rapidly in the mid-nineteenth century. After the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, which destroyed several square miles and left more than 100,000 homeless, the city made a concerted effort to rebuild. The construction boom accelerated population growth throughout the following decades, and by 1900 Chicago was one of the five largest cities in the world. During this period, Chicago made noted contributions to urban planning and zoning standards, including new construction styles (including the Chicago School of architecture), the development of the City Beautiful Movement, and the steel-framed skyscraper.Chicago is an international hub for finance, commerce, industry, technology, telecommunications, and transportation. It was the site of the creation of the first standardized futures contracts at the Chicago Board of Trade, which today is the largest and most diverse derivatives market in the world, generating 20% of all volume in commodities and financial futures. O'Hare International Airport is the one of the busiest airports in the world, and the region also has the largest number of U.S. highways and railroad freight. In 2012, Chicago was listed as an alpha global city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network, and it ranked seventh in the entire world in the 2017 Global Cities Index. Chicago has the fourth-largest gross metropolitan product in the world—generating about $670.5 billion according to September 2017 estimates—ranking it after the metropolitan areas of Tokyo, New York City, and Los Angeles, and ranking ahead of number five London and number six ...

2012 Chicago Cultural Champion- Sunny Fischer
This new award recognizes a local leader who has supported arts and culture in the city,
advocated for cultural diversity, and significantly influenced the shape of Chicago's cultural landscape. The awardee is selected by the Board of Directors of the Chicago Cultural Alliance.
Sunny Fischer is a true cultural champion for the Chicago Cultural Alliance. As Executive Director for The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation, Ms. Fischer was essential to the creation of CCA. From the beginning she has recognized the power of ethnic communities and organizations working collaboratively to ensure that their diverse perspectives and voices are included in Chicago's public discourse. Her support has been critical to the creation of the organization and to our flourishing over the past five years and we are incredibly grateful for her leadership!
Ms. Fischer is a Chicago Cultural Champion far beyond her commitment to our organization. She has been involved in the founding of several cultural and civic organizations, including the Sophia Fund, the Chicago Foundation for Women, the Neighborhood Writing Alliance, and the National Public Housing Museum, which is an Associate Member of CCA. Ms. Fischer has served on the committees for the American Express Cornerstones of Community Award, the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Annual Honors Awards for Best Preservation Projects, and the Chicago Architecture Foundation's Patron of the Year Award. She currently serves as the
chair of the board of the Illinois State Historic Preservation Agency and was recently awarded the 2012 Richard M. Daley Friend of the Neighborhoods Award, presented at the 18th annual Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards (CNDA), managed by Local Initiatives Support Corporation Chicago (LISC Chicago). The award honors city leaders who have made outstanding contributions to the quality of life in Chicago's neighborhoods, with a particular focus on community development, grassroots organization and economic strengthening.
Thank you Ms. Fischer for all that you do for the Chicago Cultural Alliance and the Chicago Metropolitan Area!

Legends, Myths & Truth by Jun Kaneko Millenium Park Chicago
Legends, Myths and Truths: Jun Kaneko Exhibition in Millennium Park's Boeing Galleries
As a pioneer in the field of monumental ceramic sculpture, Jun Kaneko has played with scale and proportion. Visitors to Millennium Park will be able to see his work displayed in the Boeing Galleries, beginning April 12 through November 3.
The installation Kaneko has created for Millennium Park's Boeing Galleries is representative of his past and present artistic practices. Works presented in the South Boeing Galleries feature Kaneko's signature Dangos (meaning rounded form or dumpling in Japanese). These ceramic steles, covered in a variety of vibrant shapes and patterns, allow viewers to examine their environment and focus on a sense of scale and place.
The Dango form links Kaneko's work to minimalist sculptors who played with simple and large forms, while at the same time, the pattern overlays show formal aspects -- in repeating geometric shapes -- similar to those of minimalist painters.
The North Boeing Gallery features a new body of work by Kaneko, drawing upon the myths and legends of the Tanuki figure. From ancient times, the Japanese have expressed the Tanuki in a variety of ways, for it is considered to be a trickster who causes trouble and mayhem in both the human and supernatural worlds. In our modern era, however, the figure is most commonly portrayed as a large, stout badger. The Tanuki is not only a creature found in mythology, but a small, nocturnal mammal native to East Asia.
The Tanuki is a symbol of fertility and in present day Japanese consumer culture, often represents prosperity and economic growth. The Tanuki has been present in Japanese art for centuries, specifically in the city of Shigaraki, Japan, where the sake-buying errand boy is currently the most famous incarnation of the Tanuki, upon which Kaneko has based his own Tanuki figures. The legendary Tanuki features special traits that are believed to bring good fortune, including big eyes to perceive the environment and help make good decisions, a big belly that symbolizes bold and calm decisiveness, and a friendly smile.
Hybrid extensions of the artist's Eastern and Western identities, Kaneko's works balance elements of both American and Japanese aesthetics. His figures, as well as the meditative and reflective qualities of his pieces, are rooted in Japanese culture and mythology, but the monumental, public scale of his work descends from the American modern tradition. The works resulting from this transcultural heritage create a unique artistic statement which functions as a universal language for all viewing audiences.
Legends, Myths and Truths: Jun Kaneko is co-presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and Millennium Park, Inc., and is sponsored by The Boeing Company, with support from the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation.
Millennium Park is located on Michigan Avenue, bordered by Randolph St to the north, Columbus Dr. to the east and Monroe St. to the south. Convenient parking is located in the Millennium Park Garage (entrance on Columbus at Monroe or Randolph), Millennium Lakeside and Grant Park North.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Chicago has the fourth-largest gross metropolitan product in the world—generating about $670.5 billion according to September 2017 estimates—ranking it after the metropo ...
