May 18, 2018 / VLOG NO. 121 – When I was in Porto, the entire city was turned into a race track for the Rally de Portugal race that went on right in the center of town! It was such a cool experience that day, making it one of my favorite moments of my trip to Portugal so far!

Street Race Track in Porto, Portugal
June 2011.
Rising above the river Douro, Porto is one of the oldest cities in Europe. The city was declared a UNESCO heritage in 1996.
It also has a really beautiful street race track Circuito-da-Boavista, right by the ocean, in Porto. It's been used in the past for the FIA Formula 1 World Championship, although these events took place in 1958 and 1960, a long time ago! As a street track it didn't get used for a long time, until in 2005 they revived the track. It's since been used for the World Touring Car Championship.
Track Length: 4.8KM (2.98 Miles)
Corners: 12
Direction: Anti Clockwise

The #Photowalks series is all about bringing viewers to cool places, usually in the Southern California area in search of the best photo spots to light up your social media, and to show how, when and where to get them.
Past Photowalk episodes include visits to Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Balboa Island, the Griffith Observatory and Venice Beach. We went outside the area to trek to Pismo Beach, a road trip from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, Tokyo and Kauai.

European Tour 2019 - The Wonders of Portugal
We continue our European Tour 2019 in our self built Mercedes Sprinter Camper Van. We discover many of The Wonders of Portugal that make it such a beautiful country to visit.
We stayed in the Algarve for about a week soaking up the winter sun with all the retired Brits. Now it's time to head back up north and what we find are some amazing places and people.
If you would like to visit the places we have shown you in this video here are the google map links:-
The hotel within the castle on the hill is at Alcácer do Sal -
You can even book yourself a room there, Hotel Pousada Castelo Alcácer do Sal -
The beautiful camp site in the national park was Ecoparque Do Outão, Setubal -
The crystal clear waters can be found at Figueirinha beach, Setubal -
The free car park for surfers was at Cresmina Beach Free Car Park -
This World Heritage site is worth a visit, Convent of Christ, Tomar -
Huge free camping ground right in the middle of Tomar, Free Municipal Aire, Tomar -
We really enjoy getting about on our fold-up bikes, they take up no room at all in the back of the van and we get a bit of exercise too.
If you would like to purchase one your for yourself here is the link
Vanlife has given us the freedom to travel very economically and get to see so much more of each country than a typical package holiday would allow. Having our tiny home with us at all times gives us freedom, comfort and security all in the one really cool van.
Check out our build series for full detail of how to create your own home on wheels
If you want a complete list of the parts we fitted in our van there is a free PDF to download right here with QR codes for each item.

If you're planning to visit Lisbon any time soon, you made the right choice! There's plenty of things to do and see, a lot of (very cheap and tasty) food to eat, and amazing people to meet! If you go during summer, don't forget to bring with you very comfy and light clothes as it can get really hot. Comfortable shoes are advised as well since there will be a lot of walking and Lisbon is particularly known for its seven hills (there's so many ups and downs!).

Places visited: Belém, Montijo, Baixa de Lisboa (Rossio, Baixa, Cais do Sodré, Terreiro do Paço, etc), Oceanário de Lisboa, Parque das Nações, Castelo de São Jorge.

Cruise Port Day Trip: Lisbon Panorama
Cruise ship docks at Lisbon port near Alfama district. Walk toward the Fado Museum, turn left across the square and take the narrow street on your left R. De São Pedro. Continue right towards Largo de São Miguel, one of the quaintest squares of Alfama. It's church dating from the 18th century boasts two bell towers. Carry on to the left side of the church and through Alfama’s alleys on Beco de São Miguel or Escudinahsa Sao Miguel to Beco da Corvinha and right on Rua Norberto de Araújo till you reach Largo das Portas do Sol, one of the most popular squares in Lisbon. Here you’ll find probably the most photographed viewpoints in Lisbon. You will want to look out over the river area, the cruise ship terminal, Alfama’s coloured buildings and the Pantheon. Then follow the tram track down hill toward Se Cathedral and the shopping area on Rua Augusta and Rossio Square etc. before passing by Praça do Comércio on the way back to ship near Jardim Tabaco - Lisbon Cruise Port.
When ship leaves port and sail along Targus River, it passes by the suspension bridge built by the same Golden Gate bridge company, the Christ Statue reminiscence of the one in Brazil, the Jerónimos Monastery and the Monument to the Discoveries as well as the Belem Tower.
Fado music by Marta Pereira da Costa & Pedro Pinhal on the last part of video.
Northern Portugal Road Trip: 6 Incredible Days
Explore the Northern coast of Portugal on our 6 day road trip! From sleepy beach towns, hill top cathedrals, and medieval streets to beer festivals and mini-golf, Portugal filled our hearts with delight.
In June 2019, we rented a car and drove down the West coast of Portugal. We visited Viana do Castelo, São Félix Hill, Porto, Miramar, Aveiro, Costa Nova, and Figueira da Foz.
We absolutely fell in love with Costa Nova. We had so much fun, we made a special video. Check it out here:

The first leg of the Euro trip, amazing Portugal.. via camper van. starting in the arid south we pick up the van and head to the border where we zipline over the Guadiana river crossing the border into Spain. after that we decide to head north via the coast first, to party in Lagos! From there we cruise north up the coast through beach towns with little to no one on decent waves, the North Atlantic water maybe cold but you can see why its rated a world class surf destination. The food is beautiful and beer is cheap! we love Portugal!

Portugal off the beaten path
In the last 5 years tourism in Portugal has taken off, places that were once wild and mostly unknown are now full of people, and blog's like ours play a big part of it by sharing breathtaking images of places in Portugal.
I have heard and talked to tourists coming here ever since I remember and most stories are about how the people are welcoming and how peaceful and unexplored it was. Well, it still is if you avoid large cities Portugal's charm is still there.
Where to go?
If you want to go partying and are looking for nightlife cities like Lisbon, Porto or Algarve´s coastline are the places to go. If you are looking to see large monuments Sintra, Tomar, Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, and many other's are perfect. But if you are looking for that authentic Portuguese experience forget it you won't find it there. Places in Alentejo, Minho, or Beira Alta are your best bet at the real Portugal.
Why you should avoid big cities in Portugal
It's relaxing
No traffic, no crowds, no stress. That's got to be the number one reason for us. As we are travelling with a toddler, the fact that we can let him run around and explore without losing him in the crowds or watching over cars is priceless.
People are more friendly and welcoming
One of the reasons people have always fell in love with Portugal is the friendly locals, well... that's not true anymore in places like Lisbon, it's just not possible to be friendly when tourism grew to the point of becoming a stress on the lives of people living there. We go often to Lisbon and last times it took us more than 3 hours to get to downtown and when we finally got there, parking was simply not possible.
Cheaper
Not much to say about this, we don't need to spend nearly €20 a person to have a good meal, instead, we can pay that much for all three of us and still get better service.
More time, no cues
In many off the beaten path places, we can visit 4, 5 places and still be thinking what to do next. In some of these super cool places, we get a personal guide and explanations about everything from the person there with no extra charge. And did I tell you can alone in a castle, underground cave or palace?
Surprising
No expectations mean everything is a surprise. Unlike going to very known places that you have seen pictures of online taken by pro's, and upon arrival, you find that it's crowded to the point of waiting in line to take a picture.
Perfect for families
It's just a perfect way to recharge and enjoy the best Portugal has to offer, nature, peace and tranquillity away from the crowds.
Ok, so where should I go?
The places you see in the video are in Alentejo's region, Nossa Senhora da Cola, Barragem de Odivelas and Serpa. But the truth is you can mostly pick any small town in Portugal and be surprised. We mostly look for places that have river's or lakes for their views and then some historic locations nearby and I assure you there are hundreds of options just like what you see here. If you are looking for more or a specific region contact us, maybe we can help you out.
Visit Portugal - What to Know Before You Visit Portugal
Portugal has become one of the most desirable vacation destinations in Europe for good reason. The great weather, the pristine beaches, the surfing, the incredible wine, and the fantastically friendly people. Here are a few things tourists should know before they visit and travel to Portugal. Whether it is having Port wine in Porto, or the capital Lisbon or just sunning yourself on the beach in the Algarve there is so much to enjoy in Portugal.

Best Portuguese Food - GIANT TIGER PRAWNS and Seafood at Cervejaria Ramiro in Lisbon, Portugal!

►Camera I use:
On Day 25 of our Round The World Trip with Star Alliance we were in Lisbon, Portugal. Along with visiting some famous attractions in Lisbon, nothing compared to having one of the best seafood meals of my life at the legendary Cervejaria Ramiro.
1:48 Elevador de Santa Justa - Located just a short walk from Praça de D. Pedro IV (Rossio Square), the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Santa Justa lift is a historical elevator that you can ride to the top for a great view of Lisbon. Since I was in the area and it wasn’t busy I decided to go for it. Price - 5 EUR
4:31 Castelo de São Jorge - From Praça da Figueira we took the bus up the hill to Castelo de São Jorge, which is one of the top things to do in Lisbon. After paying the entrance fee, we walked around the castle, which is situated on the top of one of Lisbon’s hills as a citadel. The views of the surrounding area and the castle itself were spectacular. This is a must visit attraction in Lisbon. Price - 8.50 EUR per person
8:01 Epic seafood at Cervejaria Ramiro - If you ask anyone where to eat the best Portuguese seafood meal in Lisbon, undoubtedly the number one response you’ll hear is Cervejaria Ramiro. It’s a seafood palace of a restaurant that’s popular with both locals and tourists alike, everyone comes for the abundance of incredibly fresh seafood. It actually almost feels like a Chinese restaurant when you’re eating at Cervejaria Ramiro from the liveliness and the fresh seafood tanks. We started off with some prawns in garlic sauce and then ate clams in garlic and then had crab. The crab roe was intensely amazing, and I’ve never seen a crab with so much roe in my life. Next we had some of the greatest shrimp / prawns I’ve ever seen. I ordered 2 tiger prawns which were the size of lobsters, and then 2 scarlet prawns, a type I had never eaten before. Both were incredibly delicious, some of the best prawns and seafood I’ve ever tried. Finally, my last seafood dish at Cervejaria Ramiro was a plate of goose barnacles and some oysters. For steak at Cervejaria Ramiro one of the popular things you have to eat is called a prego, which is steak sandwich. After eating all that seafood, somehow the steak sandwich hits the spot. Our total price - 108 EUR for everything we ate and ordered.
26:23 Lisbon Cathedral - The Lisbon Cathedral is one of the first cathedrals and earliest buildings in Lisbon, and it’s a fantastic sight to see.
27:31 Rua Augusta Arch - After walking around the Lisbon Cathedral we then headed to the main plaza of Lisbon and walked around the Rua Augusta Arch and got a nice view of the Tagus river.
29:10 Piri piri chicken at Frangasqueira Nacional - Finally to end this amazing day of Portuguese food and attractions in Lisbon, we headed to Frangasqueira Nacional to try their piri piri chicken. It’s just a small takeaway restaurant, but the passion of the owners is evident. The piri piri chicken was awesome. Total price - 14 EUR
This was probably my favorite day of our trip to Lisbon, with a perfect mix of incredible Portuguese food, especially seafood at Cervejaria Ramiro and visiting attractions in Lisbon.

Hi there, welcome to my travel series about 4 places to stay in Porto em Portugal. This is my HOTEL REVIEW of the ZERO BOX LODGE an awesome HOTEL IN PORTO PORTUGAL. The hotel consists of 78 bedrooms and mixes 2 different concepts. The rooms are shaped like a box, but are far from being a capsule! 70 of the rooms are at least 14 square meters in area. There is no luxury, no windows, no frig and no tv inside the rooms. The 8 remaining rooms are slightly bigger and more spacious within the same concept. Did you ever sleep in a box? Well, this is your chance! The ZERO BOX LODGE, located in the city of PORTO certainly is one of Europe's most interesting hotels a well as one of the most interesting HOTELS IN PORTO. n this vlog you will follow me as I review this hotel Porto! I actually loved the 5 days I have spent there. Just in case you're wondering the rooms aren´t that claustrophobic at all! You get used to it pretty quickly! The rooms have been very well decorated and there's art all over the hotel. The hotel also offers a series of ways you can enjoy spending your time there. There is a really cool restaurant on the ground floor that specializes in meat, but that also offers some vegetarian dishes. It is called O CARNICEIRO (The Butcher) and it is fantastic. It serves some incredible dishes. There' also a bar located inside an old safe called BIG BAD BANK which is awesome and serves a series of drinks originally created there. During certain times of the year, when no art exhibits are being held in the lobby the free rooms become available. If you eat or drink at the BIG BAD BANK or at the O CARNICEIRO restaurant you earn the right to sleep in the free room. Don´t expect any privacy at all for the walls of the free room are totally transparent and everyone will be able to observe you as you sleep! There's a sauna on the second floor and on the 5th floor, you'll find the City lounge, a quirky room with a jukebox where breakfast is served. Another flight of stairs up and you'll find a boat bar called A TRAINEIRA, 2 water tanks you can dive and cool down, a rooftop, various pieces of art and a view of the city you can enjoy!

I'm Moving To Lisbon (Not Just Yet)
I first visited Portugal in 2017 and fell in love with this beautiful country. I love the Portuguese culture, its history, the food, and felt welcomed by Lisbonians. I remembered exploring the city on my last day and sat down on a bench at Intendente Square to rest. I faced the apartment and thought to myself wouldn't it be interesting to experience living here? And here I am, two years later trying it out.
I'm Sophian and I am originally from Singapore. I recently decided to move temporarily to Lisbon, Portugal and might consider moving to Portugal. My vlog is about sharing my adventures in this amazing city, exploring around Portugal, and sharing a part of my culture through food. Follow me on Instagram: @sophianhoe
