Ripley's Ghost Train Adventures Part Three
This is a short-clip of Huguenot Cemetery. You visit this, or at least the outside wall of the cemetery while at the ghost train tour.
Huguenot Cemetery was established soon after Florida became a U. S. territory. The cemetery, located just outside St. Augustine's north gate, was first used for the interment of victims of the 1821 yellow fever epidemic and then for the burial of members of city's Protestant population. The cemetery property was acquired by the Rev. Thomas Alexander and then sold to the Presbyterian Church in 1832. By the late 19th century, over-crowding of graves, and the resulting concerns for sanitation and public health, required that the small public and religious burying grounds in St. Augustine be closed. New cemeteries, such as San Lorenzo and Evergreen, were subsequently opened to parishioners and the public.
This real Florida haunted cemetery formerly was the Potters field, where ex-communicants and military criminals were buried; the dates on the tombs are not very ancient, 1821 being the oldest, but very many of the graves bear no inscription; the nature of the place in its earliest days would not lead to a perpetuation of the memory of those interred there; the spot is worth inspection.
The Huguenot Cemetery is significant because it was the first cemetery in St. Augustine dedicated for Anglo-American civilians. The burial traditions and funerary materials expressed at Huguenot, compared with the nearby Tolomato Cemetery (established by the Catholic Church in 1777), demonstrate both the differences and commonalties in funerary practices and religious attitudes of two distinct groups residing in 19th century St. Augustine. The gravemarkers at Huguenot Cemetery display a range of funerary art popular in the 19th century, including false box tombs with inscribed ledgers and finely carved headstones by highly skilled stone carvers in vogue during the 1820s-40s, and the more elaborate monuments that were favored during the Victorian period. The work of several important stone carvers in the southeastern United States has been identified at the cemetery, including Thomas Walker and members of the White family who had shops in Charleston, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia.

Ripleys St.Augustine Ghost sighting
While on the ghost tour at the Ripleys museum you are taken into many of the exhibits rooms most of which are said to be haunted. As a skeptic I decided to take along my go pro hero 3 silver and see what we could find. At the top right corner in the box you can see a face slowly appear, look left and right, smile, and disappear within milliseconds. The clips are slowed down to 50, 40, and 30 percent. I am now a believer, are you?
St. Augustine Haunted Florida
I dont believe in this stuff really, was kinda odd though have to say. But this is supposed to be the oldest area in the U.S. or whatever. Has the oldest house, and oldest school house, like the oldest everything. If you ever played the game Uncharted this place had a lot to do with Sir Francis Drake! And its called the most haunted overall area in the United States. So pretty cool.

The Ghosts of St. Augustine | Haunted Places & Haunted Cities
St. Augustine is the oldest continuously occupied city in the United States. Because of this, you can imagine that St. Augustine's history is rich. Along with all of the people who have lived in and visited St. Augustine throughout its 449 years, a lot of people have died here. After death, many assume that these spirits should move on, however, if you've ever walked the streets of St. Augustine you may develop a differing opinion on final destination. It's safe to say, St. Augustine may be one of the most haunted cities in the United States.
Ghosts that don't want to leave.
The downtown streets of St. Augustine are old, narrow, and tightly connected. They lead from one haunted location to the next.
With so many haunted locations its impossible to cover them all in one episode, but we will do our best.
Today on the Grave Talks, The Ghosts of St. Augustine.

Ripley's Museum in St Augustine, Florida (1974)
Sifting through more of my old home movies in 8mm sound, I came across my visit to the original Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum in St. Augustine, Florida. The St. Augustine Ripley's is located in Castle Warden, an historic Moorish Revival style mansion built in 1887. Built as a winter home for Millionaire William Warden, Castle Warden later served as a fashionable hotel owned by Norton Baskin and his wife, Pulitzer prize-winning novelist, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. Since 1950 the building has been the original permanent location of Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum.
After the Museum, we stop by the Castillo de San Marcos, a fort which once guarded olde St. Augustine. The Castillo de San Marcos took twenty-three years to build but, once in place, stood as the town's stalwart defender. In 1845, Florida became the twenty-seventh state admitted to the Union. The Castillo de San Marcos was renamed Fort Marion in honor of a Revolutionary War hero.
We finish out the film along the waterway near the Bridge of Lions.
This film was shot with the first model of Kodak's Ektasound Super8 camera which recorded synchronized sound on magnetic striped film. I used a Eumig Super8 sound projector to overlay the music. Very primitive by today's standards & not always that accurate. Along with the Fort, the Ripley Museum is still open to the public.
Filmed: September 1, 1974
