Lyons Whitewater Park Kayaking
Lyons Whitewater Park.
Late Saturday afternoon, my son Bryce, Bud, and I did a lap at LaVern M. Johnson Park. It was running at approx. 113 cfs before the confluence, with some small wave trains. I've included coverage of just about all the features and creek conditions for you all to make an informed decision about running it. Sunday, there were a bunch of boats and duckies in the water up Apple Valley by the bridge. May 12, 2018 in Lyons, Colorado. #kayaking #LyonsColorado #GoProHero5

Havasu Creek in the Grand Canyon - Home of the Havasupai
WESTERN RIVER EXPEDITIONS
Day five [of Western's Grand Canyon 6 day expedition] you’re going to stop at Havasu. And even day three, day four, you know, some of those earlier days, they’re almost setting you up to stop at Havasu. It’s the highlight of the trip for most people.
Havasu consists of waterfalls and pools, and waterfalls and pools, and waterfalls and pools for miles and miles and miles. It’s a great place to, sort of, maybe do your own thing and leave the group for a while, and go find a - your own private nook for swimming, or sunbathing, or, or just hanging out.
Havasu is a gorgeous canyon. Blue green water, uh, flowing on down over big boulders, made white by the minerals in the water. That’s Havasu.
The water does something you wouldn’t expect when you’re in the desert. It’s beautiful.
I was in this canyon as a seven year old, with my family. As a seven year old, you remember the, the hugeness of the uh, the size of those rapids. You also remember these magical places, and the blue water of Havasu Canyon.
Earlier today we stopped at Havasu. Got to hike up the, the canyon a little bit, and my wife Terry was bold enough to jump into the water.
My favorite thing was Havasupai. The water was so blue. It was warm, and it rushed over the rock. It’s just really spectacular. Everything - the serenity - it was just gorgeous.
I’d always heard about Havasupai, and had never been there. Most of the people that I know that have been there, have come down from the top, so they - they’re at a different, um, spot than we were at. But it was so beautiful. If, if you told someone that the color of the water was the color it really is, they would never believe you. And when they look at the photos, they’re going to think they were photoshopped. And it was just refreshing to get in and swim and hike.
That blue water is something that is just unbelievable to me. It’s the color I’ve never seen in nature anywhere else.
Havasu, and so much of the other offerings of the canyon, has really helped me to appreciate nature, and to really respect what grandeur and what amazing experiences lie beyond the… the four walls of work.
We took dozens of pictures, and they'll never do it justice.
The cameras can take pictures, but it’s difficult to capture the grandeur of where you are. Yeah, this has been an absolutely fantastic, uh, adventure. To witness all the scenery, and the magnificence of it, it’s overwhelming. Have I found peace down here? Sure. It’s just been nice to look at the rocks and listen to the river as we head on back. It’s been a great experience.
You can see the Grand Canyon from a lookout point on the north and south rims, but until you’ve floated down the center of it, you really haven’t seen the Grand Canyon. And I don't know of a better way to see this, this creation than floating through the middle of it.

Inside Terrain of the Cave (PR)
It's incredible inside and although it was super intense climb, it was worth every second!!-------Read about the trip below-----
7-8 hours of intense and physically demanding exploration of the Angeles Cave in Puerto Rico. You're life is literally in your hands--mostly free climbing and diving in a the completely natural cave (no man made routes!).
First we zip lined and walked across metal cables at the canopy of the rainforest before rappelling down to the mouth of the cave. Then we explore the large cavernous chambers that is extremely rocky and have bodies of water running through this system. There's tons of bats, fossils, spiders, roaches, etc all throughout. There were parts where we had to dive 30ft in complete darkness, make our way through mud slides, body rafting, etc.
We ate lunch inside the cave, perched on some higher rocks with bats circling above us. After we finally made it out of the cave system, we climbed all the way back up hundreds of feet on vertical cliff walls of the rainforest back to the top by clipping and unclipping ourselves (sort of like mountain climbing).
It was the most exhilarating and accomplishing activity and I highly recommend!

In the northern hemisphere right now it’s pretty hard to argue that we are all in the middle of winter and it has got us thinking about a few memories of club rides and bikes that we have ridden in winters gone by. Winter bikes were a real thing, no one ever rode a carbon bike, mudguards were mandatory and they were heavy! We have been having a few thoughts myself, even though this is the least we have ridden a bike in winter since the early 2000s it has really highlighted to me just how much more comfortable it is to ride a winter bike, of some description at least. For many winters we refused to use mudguards, they rattle, they are slow, heavier than no mudguards and they overlap our toes. But now that we don’t do thousands of KMs through the winter, we don’t mind their side effects as much as we used to and because they are just so good at making my commute more comfortable!
Clever Standard release new tools specifically targeting rounded bolts. Now, I don’t know about you but we often end up rounding bolt heads a little, then struggling to undo them completely. Especially on cleats that are in all sorts of weather. Fear not though, Clever Standard has a range of ‘expanding’ Allen keys that are designed to loosen those stubborn bolts and hopefully prevent drilling as the only chance you have to remove them.
Have you Ever wanted a stepper bike? Not reinventing the wheel, but reinventing pedalling! Dutch company StepTwin from Nieuwegein have this up on Indiegogo currently raising funds. Featuring Dual Bionic independent drive technology which supposedly gives benefits such as Free pedal travel, completely eliminating the dead spot.
Do you have a winter bike? Or what do you use differently in winter? Let us know in the comments section below. ????

Around the Corner with John McGivern | Program | Sheboygan Falls & Kohler (#304)
[Latest Airdate: May 25, 2017]
[Original Airdate: January 30, 2014]
Like John says, this little pocket of Wisconsin is everything a Mainstreet Community ought to be! He went from longingly exploring the American Club and the Design Center in Kohler, to walking in awe through the aisles of Evans in Sheboygan Falls. (And if we wouldn't have threatened him, he'd still be in Evans!) And while John Gurda was researching the history of the area, the ladies at the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center were digging into John McGivern's history. This episode offers pickelball, music, vinyl, popcorn, great food, golf, churches and more.
It's no coincidence that the world's best known manufacturer of toilets is just miles down the road from the world's largest manufacturer of toilet seats. See? These two towns really do go together!
