Episode #17 - HOW TO DO THE WEST COAST IN 8 DAYS!! ROAD TRIP (PART 1)
In episode 17 of Around the House, the Rietzschs venture out on an 8-day road trip to the Oregon coast. They cover 6 states in an adventurous loop. In part one of their trip they leave Utah and pass through Boise and into Hood River Oregon, stopping at all the fun and quirky places along the way - researched ahead of time by Lindsey, with the help of social media and the Food Network!
Lindsey has planned fun road trips in the past to Yellowstone, Las Vegas, Idaho, and California always researching the funnest spots to visit along the way, and activities that are truly unique. From the serenaded candlelit Bulgarian restaurant in Vegas, to the haunted historic restaurant featured on the Travel Channel in Filmore UT, & the covered wagon tour/chuck wagon dinner and concert in Lava Hot Springs and Yellow Stone, to the glow-in-the-dark dining experience inside of the Pirates of the Caribbean at Disney Land. People often ask for her itinerary and this time she has come prepared and pasted the Oregon road trip below! (Scroll down)
In episode 17 of Around the House, Manuel surprises Lindsey a few days early with a lovely Mother's Day gift. The kids plan special surprises, and the family gets ready to celebrate at Grandma Bev's, as she pulls off a crazy fiesta themed dinner. Leave room to be flexible and spontaneous. There are lovely bed and breakfasts all along the coast but with a family of 6 - we were not able to stay at a B&B. Car Camera - I-80 - Grand Island/Hastings to Shelton, NE Interchanges . 2018 ( 州間高速道路80号線 )
On a very Nebraska windy day - a day that it was hard to keep any vehicle straight on the road ;o ... we continue our journey west on Interstate 80 here in Nebraska, U.S.A. - from the Grand Island/Hastings to Shelton interchanges. Yes, it's been a while since any new Car Camera video was recorded ;p .
As we travel along the Platte River - here in the Platte River valley (the valley beginning just before the Grand Island interchange), we can see the beginning stages and growth of thunderheads overhead. On this day, a moderate risk of severe weather was in place for much of the area. It is interesting to see how much the clouds overhead develop - from the beginning, to the end of this video ;o ~
...and also, unlike times past where the heavier traffic used to clear out at the York interchange when heading west... it now seems like the traffic continues to the Grand Island interchange - and even past ;o . How times do change ^_~ ~
Anyways, please enjoy the greens of late spring and thanks for watching ^^ !!!~

Drone Detroit Lake Music Video
Passing through the amazing abyss that is the Lake shocked me initially, though it was the end of summer.
I'm using a DJI Phantom 2 a Zenmuse h3 2d gimbal and no FPV monitor. I later acquired a monitor for FPV and played around with a FUTUBA remote while DJI software was working out the smooth operation of the gimbal sensitivity. The videos take place on my trips in and around Portland, Corvallis, Eugene, and Roseburg, Oregon.
Detroit Lake is a reservoir impounded by the Detroit Dam on the North Santiam River 46 miles (74 km) southeast of Salem, Oregon, United States.[1][2] The lake is adjacent to Oregon Route 22 near the city of Detroit. This mesotrophic lake stores water for use by the city of Salem and other nearby communities.
Detroit Lake is situated over a historical road bed of the former Oregon Pacific Railroad. This route was built by Colonel T. Egenton Hogg as a proposed transcontinental railroad. Because of a lack of funding, the line terminated in Idanha, southeast of the lake. Idanha had rail service until the 1950s, when the track was removed for installation of the Detroit and Big Cliff reservoirs.[3] Detroit Lake was created in 1953 after the completion of the dam.[1] Part of the Willamette Valley Projects, the lake was intended primarily for flood control and power generation but has become one of the major recreation resources in western Oregon.
The reservoir has a capacity of 455,000 acre feet (561,000,000 m3) of water when full and 281,600 acre feet (347,300,000 m3) in the summer when drawn down.[1] Located in the North Santiam Canyon, the 9-mile (14 km) long lake has shoreline of 32 miles (51 km) when full.[2] One swimming opportunity is at the Mongold Day-Use Area (an Oregon State Park).[4] Detroit Lake is stocked by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife with 125,000 catchable rainbow trout along with fingerling rainbow, kokanee and chinook salmon.[5] A self-sustaining population of brown bullhead catfish resides in the lake.
Detroit Lake offers year-round fishing as long as you fish in still water and not in or near the rivers and streams. It is one of 32 lakes federally designated for recreation, managed by the United States Forest Service.[1] The lake serves many purposes including flood control, water conservation, and recreation.
There are many camping and recreation opportunities at Detroit Lake. In 2009, a new winter boat ramp was constructed,[citation needed] making it possible to launch a boat safely during the winter months when other ramps are on dry ground. Patreon Patreon.com/garthvapor
