Roaring Fork and Setrock Creek Falls
These 2 waterfalls are fairly close to each other and folks often visit both in the same day. Both waterfalls look their best after a lot of rainfall, so we stopped by this past week. It's been a wet year in this area so far and we just had a 3 day period of heavy rain.
More info on these waterfalls can be found on my page here -

Intro photo by Greg Outdoors,
Roaring Fork Creek Falls in the Pisgah National Forest is a long cascade of about 100 ft. (about 50 ft. high) in a very beautiful setting. Located just two miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway via NC Highway 80, it's at the base of Mt. Mitchell and next to the Mount Mitchell Golf Club Resort.
It is along the Mt. Mitchell Scenic Byway and about seven miles from Crabtree Falls. Nearby (2.5-mile drive) is another easy hike to Setrock Creek Falls, so you can quickly see two waterfalls in one trip.
The half-mile hike to the waterfall is easy up a mostly flat forest service road. So it's quick and easy to enjoy! Roaring Fork Creek feeds into the nearby Toe River and the falls is surrounded by rhododendron.

A slideshow of my camping trip to Mt. Mitchell with wildflowers both on the mountain and on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Also, a side trip down to the valley (Marion, NC). Update: I made a mistake in this video. What I labeled as Bridal Veil Falls is actually Roaring Fork Falls on South Toe River Rd (SR 1205) as seen here ncwaterfalls.com/setrock1.htm . To get there follow instructions on the ncwaterfalls.com website.

Roaring Fork Falls, Pisgah National Forest 2-6-2015
Ice Ice Baby! Recent cold temps overnight have given way to frost and ice on the Roaring Fork Falls just north of the Blue Ridge Parkway on NC 80 in the Pisgah National Forest. Until the end this was an extremely easy 0.5 mile hike from the parking area on a gravel roadway, accessing a good view of the falls requires a little skill/concentration/help depending on your abilities. One of the prettiest falls I've ever seen in person, with its changing direction with the cascades, and just a wonderful contrast with the scenery. With some views of Mt. Mitchell along the way, this is a real treat for not so much effort. But ... highway 80 does have a lot of twists and switchbacks, and the Parkway is usually closed this time of year. (I tried to get to Crabtree Falls but was blocked at the Black Mountain Overlook.) All in all this falls gets a 10 from the Groovenator for ease of access combined with the visual reward.
