[Wikipedia] Upper Nyack, New York

Upper Nyack is a village incorporated in 1872 in the town of Clarkstown, Rockland County, New York, United States. It is located north of the village of Nyack, east of Valley Cottage, south of Rockland Lake State Park, and west of the Hudson River. The population was 2,063 at the 2010 census.
Upper Nyack has a Village Hall and a village law court, located in the same building on North Broadway. Upper Nyack is also home to the Empire Hook and Ladder Company No. 1, established in 1863, one of eight fire companies in the Nyack Joint Fire District.

Took my drone out to Rockland Lake in New York, to film the sunrise and sunset in a drone timelapse video. I'm still getting used to how to get proper shots for editing, but I think with a bit more practice, I'll get there soon.

Brief Background Information
At Bear Mountain State Park hiking the world famous Appalachian trail, visiting the zoo and bird sanctuary, going ice skating; and noshing and swilling at Oktoberfest are just a handful of things to do.
Escape the city as a day trip, or stay a little longer. The Bear Mountain Inn, Overlook Lodge, and Stone Cottages are perfect accommodations for a romantic weekend, family retreat, or destination wedding.

Bear Mountain rises 1,293 feet (394 m) west of the Hudson River, mostly in Orange County New York. But the park itself stretches into Rockland county and contains other Hudson Highlands peaks such as Dunderberg and West Mountain.

Together with Harriman State Park, and the Palisades Interstate Park system, the area amounts to one of the largest contiguous wildernesses in New York State.

The area was once privately owned by railroad tycoon Edward H. Harriman.

After his death in 1909, his wife Mary donated 10,000 acres of the family property and $1M to New York State to establish the parklands.

Civil Engineers, George W. Perkins and William A. Welch built much of the infrastructure in and around the Hudson Highlands. They later expanded the parkland to 40,000 acres, getting financial help from JP Morgan and the Rockefellers.

Since opening in the early 1900s, it's been a favorite weekend retreat for millions of urban New Yorkers (45 miles away from Midtown Manhattan) and people from all over the North Eastern United States.

7/2/2019 - Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter, Town officials and lifeguards came together at Roberto Clemente Pool Tuesday to remind residents of key pool and beach safety tips as residents head to the water to enjoy the extended July 4th holiday weekend.

Joining Supervisor Carpenter were Councilwoman Mary Kate Mullen; DPW, Parks Recreation and Cultural Affairs Commissioner Tom Owens; Deputy Commissioner Dierdre Whalberg; Dan Walsh, Senior Chief Lifeguard for Town of Islip bay beaches and pools and Michelle Wyeth, Chief Lifeguard for Roberto Clemente Pool.

All Town pools opened for the 2019 season Saturday, June 29th–a day earlier than in previous years.

In just a few days, thousands of residents will flock to bay beaches, ocean beaches and swimming pools to enjoy the long 4th of July holiday weekend. We don’t want anyone to become a statistic, said Supervisor Angie Carpenter.

Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death among children ages 1-4 years old. According to new data released by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, fatal child drownings in the United States are on the rise, with an average of 363–nearly one per day-pool or spa-related fatal drownings involving children younger than 15-years old each year. From 2016 through 2018, an average of 6,600 children were treated in hospital emergency rooms for nonfatal drowning injuries in pools or spas each year.

As the holiday approaches, remember to follow 6 important steps while spending time in and around the water, said Councilwoman Mullen.

1. Teach your children how to swim.

2. Never leave a child unattended.

3. Teach children to stay away from drains.

4. Ask about drain covers.

5. Install proper barriers.

6. Learn CPR.

And, take the Pool Safety Pledge:

Designate a water watcher every single time children in your care are near the water. Make sure your kids know how to swim. As a parent or guardian, learn CPR. Always remove portable pool ladders when not in use. Ensure all permanent pools have a proper fence and gate and safe drain covers.

Congers & New City FD supports Ride 2 Recovery

The Congers & New City Fire Departments came out to support the Ride 2 Recovery bike ride on 9/11/2014. Around 200 cyclists came through Congers on their way to NYC. They were lead by an escort from the Clarkstown Police Department.

What was this about: Cyclists will travel 425 miles on the roads of New England through five states in the 3rd Minuteman Challenge. The ride will begin in Boston, MA; then travel through Providence, RI; Hartford and Danbury, CT; West Point and New York City, NY before finishing in Fort Lee, NJ.
