MAS Museum aan de Stroom Antwerp Belgium
The Museum aan de Stroom (MAS; Dutch for: Museum by the River) is a museum located along the river Scheldt in the Eilandje district of Antwerp, Belgium. It opened in May 2011 and is the largest museum in Antwerp.
History
In 1998 the Antwerp city council decided to build the museum at the Hanzestedenplaats. On 14 September 2006 the first brick of the building was laid. In 2010 museum objects arrived from various other museums like the Etnographic Museum and the Maritime Museum, which both ceased to exist. The museum opened for the public on 17 May 2011
Design
The 60 metre high MAS was designed by Neutelings Riedijk Architects. The façade is made of Indian red sandstone and curved glass panel construction. It is an example of postmodern Art Deco architecture. The MAS houses 470,000 objects, most of which are kept in storage. The first visitor's gallery is the visible store, which contains 180,000 items. The building is located on the spot where the Hanzehuis used to stand. International merchants worked and resided at the Hanzehuis. In the nineteenth century a fire destroyed the building.
Collection and exhibitions
The central focus of the MAS is Antwerp and its many aspects. The main themes are Metropolis, Power, Life and Death, and Antwerp's long history as a major international port. The museum is committed to informing the public using new media. Through the QR codes placed next to most of the exhibits, visitors can access website information in five languages: English, Dutch, French, German and Spanish.

The Golden Cabinet
Since February 2013 the exhibition The Golden Cabinet - Royal Museum at the Rockox House offers an impression of a private art collection in Antwerp’s Golden Age. The town mansion of the former Antwerp mayor and arts patron Nicolaas Rockox (1560 – 1640) has been transformed into an opulent art cabinet containing showpieces from the collection of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp as well as the core collection of the Rockox House Museum. A mini-documentary shows you how this unique exhibition came to be. Museum curators Hildegard Van de Velde (Rockox House Museum) and Nico Van Hout (KMSKA) tell you more about Nicolaas Rockox, collecting art in the low countries, the title of the exhibition and the painting A collection by Frans Francken II.

Sinds februari 2013 toont 'Het Gulden Cabinet. In Brussels one of the first architect lived and created, worked in this style- Viktor Orta (1861-1947гг), built four Brussels buildings, comprised in the List of the World cultural and natural heritage of UNESCO: the house of professor Tassel(1893.), which is considered first in the world by building in stiletto modernist style, the building of Van Etvelide, Solivey and own, where now is situated the exposure of the Museum of Orta.
The prominent master of the Brussels modernist style were Poll Ankar (1859-1901), applicable in his own projects the wall pannos and color bricks (the house of artist Chamberlani), founded in the Brussels High Institute of Decorative art.
The Flavor of Brussels arenuvo is rightfully considered the own house of architect Gustav Stroven, in which he crammed the four metres space between two nearby buildings.
6. The Museums of Brussels are a city of European culture and well-earned ranks in the most largest cultural centre of Europe. The glory of the city has brought many meetings of local museums - Belgian Royal Museum of art, the Royal museum of art and history, - where are presented the picturesque linens of the works of Peter Breygel (1530-69гг.) and Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640).
In 1984 in Belgian capital there was opened the Museum of Modern art. To relieve the acquaintance with exposures, in the Museum are laid varicoloured thematic tracks.
Osias Beert - collection A of flower & breakfast type painter - Flemish Artist
Osias Beert or Osias Beert the Elder (c. 1580 – 1623/24) was a Flemish painter active in Antwerp who played an important role in the early development of flower and breakfast-type still lifes as independent genres in Northern European art. He has been recognized as one of the most influential artists of the earliest generation of still life painters in Flanders. Osias Beert is mainly known as a painter of flowers and banquet (breakfast) pieces, genres in which he played a pioneering role. He rarely signed or monogrammed and never dated his work. Only four signed works by him are known and from these it has been possible to attribute four works in the Museum of Grenoble to him. Since knowledge about this early stage of the Flemish still life is still fragmentary there has been a tendency to attribute too many works to Beert. Some works attributed to him are likely by his pupils, while some attributed to Osias Beert the younger were probably painted by his father. Osias Beert often painted on oak panels, using a glazing technique. By using multiple superimposed layers of very fluid oil he was able to obtain a transparency and a wide variety of colors. Some of his works are on copper.
He was one of the first artists to specialize in still life painting when the production of works in this genre was still minor and typically anonymous. His breakfast pieces, usually referred to by
their Dutch name ontbijtjes (little breakfasts), represent the scene from a high viewpoint with a forced perspective. This technique is commonly seen in early Flemish and Dutch still life painting. His compositions often show dense groupings in a balanced arrangement. His style is quasi-geometric and shows an eye for detail. He strived for objectivity and displayed a strong sense of plasticity. His still lifes are bathed in an even and diffused light. An example is Still life with cherries and strawberries in China bowls (Gemäldegalerie, Berlin), which shows a banquet piece on a table that is slightly tilted so that the objects on it can be viewed without obstruction. The painting represents the last course of an eight to nine course banquet. The dragonfly and the butterfly have an emblematic meaning and represent the fight between good and evil.
He was known for his paintings of oysters and confectionery goods displayed orderly on tabletops together with precious wine glasses and Chinese porcelain. He was unmatched in his ability to depict oysters with light playing on the viscous and pearly flesh and the wetness distinguishing the oysters from the hard surface of the shell's interior. A good example is the Still life with oysters (National Gallery of Art, Washington), which shows oysters on a plate together with precious objects on a table extending on both sides outside of the canvas against a dark background.
His flower still lifes, often showing a vase of flowers in a shallow niche or a basket full of flowers, as is visible in Basket of Flowers (c. 1615) at the Dallas Museum of Art, are reminiscent of the works of Ambrosius Bosschaert. In his flower pieces each flower is displayed at the peak of its bloom and with great detail. The flowers depicted in the same bouquet often bloomed in different seasons and could never in reality have been displayed in the same vase. As such they symbolize the transitory nature of man's earthly existence. An example is the Bouquet in a niche in the Rockox House, Antwerp. There is speculation that he collaborated with Peter Paul Rubens on at least one painting. He influenced his nephew Frans Ykens as well as other Antwerp artists, such as Jacob Foppens van Es and Jacob van Hulsdonck.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

Antwerp ( (listen); Dutch: Antwerpen [ˈɑntʋɛrpə(n)] (listen); French: Anvers [ɑ̃vɛʁs]) is a city in Belgium, and is the capital of Antwerp province in Flanders. With a population of 520,504, it is the most populous city proper in Belgium, and with 1,200,000 the second largest metropolitan region after Brussels.Antwerp is on the River Scheldt, linked to the North Sea by the river's Westerschelde estuary. It is about 40 kilometres (25 mi) north of Brussels, and about 15 kilometres (9 mi) south of the Dutch border. The Port of Antwerp is one of the biggest in the world, ranking second in Europe and within the top 20 globally. The city is also known for its diamond industry and trade.
Both economically and culturally, Antwerp is and has long been an important city in the Low Countries, especially before and during the Spanish Fury (1576) and throughout and after the subsequent Dutch Revolt. Antwerp was also the place of the world's oldest stock exchange building, originally built in 1531 and re-built in 1872.The inhabitants of Antwerp are nicknamed Sinjoren (Dutch pronunciation: [sɪɲˈjoːrə(n)]), after the Spanish honorific señor or French seigneur, lord, referring to the Spanish noblemen who ruled the city in the 17th century. The city hosted the 1920 Summer Olympics.
