Late Summer Adventure Touring in WY/MT/ID
Note: Best viewed at 1440p even on a 1080p display.
My dad and I did some cruising around some fun paved and not paved roads in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho.
We did Beartooth Highway from Red Lodge to Cooke City, then back along Chief Joseph Scenic Byway. Both spectacular roads. Stopped to fly at Sunlight Bridge, the highest bridge in Wyoming (video coming soon).
Then spent a month in Montana where we rode up to Willow Mnt Lookout and then on into Burnt Fork Reservoir (flew there as well).
Took a day trip down to ghost town Bannock Mt, former state capital, then back up over Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway to Anaconda then over Skalkaho Pass in the dark (not ideal). Not in this video but we came back to Skalkaho falls later, and I flew there as well. Then we did a two day trip from Darby Mt down to and through the Magruder Corridor which is a narrow strip of navigable FS land through a Wilderness area coming out near Elk City ID. Next day we rode out along the South Fork of the Clearwater to Grangeville, then north on Highway 14 and 13, to Highway 12 and back home on 100 miles of twisty roads alongside the Clearwater River and the Lochsa River (Lochsa and Selway join to become the Middle Fork of the Clearwater), and over Lolo Pass.
We did a bunch more late afternoon trips which I didn't catch on video, but did fly in some more places. Hopefully will get all these flights into a video soon.
I'm riding a 2015 Triumph Tiger 800XCx and my dad a 2006 BMW R1200Gs. Yes the LEDs on my dad's bike are a bit distracting to the camera. Your eyes don't normally see the blinking (except out of the corner of your eye), but the camera causes them to appear to be strobing.
Recorded with GoPro Hero6 with Superview and stabilization On.
Yes I wish I had captured more natural bike sound, but I had to record that with my phone and sync with the GoPro video, and I recorded a lot more video than audio clips. I need a good remote microphone setup for my GoPro, but they make it super annoying ( needs a huge dongle to use any external mic).

The town is named for famous American pioneer and explorer Daniel Boone, and every summer since 1952 has hosted an outdoor amphitheatre drama, Horn in the West, portraying the British settlement of the area during the American Revolutionary War and featuring the contributions of its namesake. It is the largest community and the economic hub of the seven-county region of Western North Carolina known as the High Country.
In 2012, Boone was listed among the 10 best places to retire in the U.S. by U.S. News.[5]Hardin Street) to east of N.C. 194 (Jefferson Road), including a new entrance and exit to the new Watauga High School, at a cost of $16.2 million.[18] The widening has displaced 25 businesses and 63 residences east of historic downtown King Street.[19] The project was slated to be completed by December 31, 2011, but construction continued into the spring of 2012.

Middle Fork Salmon River
Our guided camp vacations are usually five or six days on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho. The Middle Fork drops 2750 feet in elevation during your 100 mile float. Compare the bonus of great rapids and geothermal hot springs to other trips!
Scenery and flora change from high mountains blanketed with pine trees to the Impassable Canyon dotted with Mountain Mahogany and sagebrush on high cliffs. The river current flows with no long eddies; the water is crystal clear. No roads or motors are allowed. Reservations are now accepted. June trips will be high water, as snow pack is good. Few outfitters have high water equipment like we do.
Arrive in Stanley, Idaho one day early if possible. Arrival mid-trip or on launch day may require a private flight from Boise, McCall, Sun Valley, Salmon, or Montana. Hike or mountain bike in Stanley's Sawtooth Mountains.
Check out bags or tents early!
Wildlife is abundant on the River of No Return Wilderness area. Native Cutthroat Trout almost jump into the boat. Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep are often sighted. Mule Deer sometimes wanter into camp. There are numerous reasons to float this fine ecosystem. My family has been a public outfitter here since 1964.
Whitewater rapids are a thrill-a-minute in the comfortable guide-oared, self-bailing rafts. With Masoner splash shields on some rafts, our equipment is really spiffy! Inflatable kayaks and guided paddle boats are for the action-seeking guests. This vacation is designed with you in mind. Wetsuits are provided for adventuresome high-water trips. Spincast or flyfish between rapids with your helmsman's help. September offers Chukar shooting and large, native spawning trout. Fishing tackle is provided.
Hike, fish, swim, throw horseshoes, or take a shower at camp. Sleeping bags, thick pads, roomy tents, waterproof packs, potable water, books, and maps are furnished for camp comfort. We support your recreation interest. The cargo boat is loaded with beverages, ice, and hors d'oeuvres! Our guides lead and teach youth teams or other guests while on wilderness hikes or away from camp. You just relax!
Meals are cleanly prepared away from the campfire unless closed Dutch Ovens are used. Lunches are unique. Special dietary requests are met. Helmsmen become hiking and fishing guides or chefs with aprons in camp! Lawn chairs and tables are convenient. Dine at the table, sit near the river and watch eagles, or fish and eat late!
Not all float trips are the same. We take pride in our experience, safety, fishing and hiking interests, quality equipment, and service to you.

Middle Fork Salmon River Rafting in Idaho
The Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho is the premier wilderness rafting trip in the US. It flows 100 miles of Wild and Scenic free-flowing river through the largest roadless wilderness area in the US thru a canyon that is deeper than the Grand Canyon. It has natural hot springs throughout the canyon, blue ribbon trout fishing, and more than 400 rapids grade I-III (IV in June). The Middle Fork of the Salmon is unspoiled, remote and roadless so you can be sure you will get away from it all. Simply put, it is the best river run in the West and perhaps the world.
Middle Fork River Expeditions, licensed and bonded outfitter, has run safe and well-managed river trips on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho for more than 3 decades. Trips are 4 or 6 days of exciting river rafting, wilderness camping, fine fishing, and adventure travel. Our equipment is specially designed for wilderness whitewater rafting, and offers mild and wild boat choices (oar boats, paddle boats, fly fishing drift boats, inflatable kayaks and stand up paddle surf boards!). Our river guides are seasoned professionals, licensed by the state of Idaho and First Aid and Swiftwater Rescue Certified. They are expert river runners, magnificent cooks, great storytellers, and knowledgeable, helpful outdoorsmen. Join Middle Fork River Expeditions for a magical wilderness river vacation this summer!

ABOUT US
Welcome to Grand Adventure, a YouTube channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, nearly always filmed in stunning 4K.
We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the western U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and our dogs Zoe and Maggie are avid boondockers, so you'll seldom find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds. Instead, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. And unlike most other RV channels on YouTube, we're not RV dealers or full-timers -- we're weekend warriors just like you!
We'll provide tips and insight on equipping and maintaining your RV, trip planning and travel videos to make your next adventure a grand one indeed! So, subscribe to make sure that you catch every episode, and remember...life is nothing but a Grand Adventure!

Sawtooth Mountains Behind Lake Stanley, Stanley Idaho 6 17 2014
Alice Lake, Idaho, in the Sawtooth Range of the Rocky Mountains.
The hike from the trailhead parking on the north shore of Pettitt Lake is about 6.5 miles each way, from about 7,000 up to about 8,600 feet elevation. About a mile along the trail begins the Sawtooth Wilderness, with no facilities and nobody else on that trail the whole day (pack out everything you take in). The only sounds on this video are gentle breezes and the crunching of my feet on gravelly rock - it really was that quiet!
Lewis and Clark Scenic Byway in Idaho | Visit Idaho
Two hundred years ago, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark stood high on a ridge-line that divides continental waters, and began the discovery of the Pacific Northwest. Stands of fir and pine trees, high-mountain meadows and rolling, jade-colored hills look much the same today as when the famous explorers journeyed to the crest of Lemhi Pass in 1805.
