Warwick Re-Opens Part of Rocky Point Walking Path
The area was closed last month while crews knocked down some of the buildings there.
MEMORIES OF ROCKY POINT
The Rocky Point Amusement Park was a highly popular amusement park on the Narragansett Bay side of Warwick, Rhode Island. It operated from the late 1840s until it closed in 1995. The following year, the park filed for bankruptcy.
From the 1950s through the mid 1990s, Rocky Point Amusement Park was the most popular attraction in Rhode Island. It featured rides such as the Skyliner, Corkscrew Loop Roller Coaster, Log Flume, and the Freefall.
On June 25, 2011 Rocky Point was once again opened to the public and features a new asphalt mile long walking path along the shore of Narragansett Bay, although much of the area of the original amusement park itself is still fenced off and closed to the public. However, the City of Warwick and the State of Rhode Island are moved forward with plans to purchase the remainder of the land and make it the jewel of the State Park system.
February 13, 2013 became a landmark day as roughly 82 acres of the land was preserved when U.S. District Court Ronald R. Lagueux approved the state's purchase of the land for roughly $9.65 million.
Using bond money, the state Department of Environmental Management is purchasing the land from the U.S. Small Business Administration, the court-appointed receiver for the landmark park that was bankrupt when it closed in the mid 1990's.

Abandoned: Rocky Point Amusement Park
Today, Rocky Point Park is a walking path & recreational area on Narragansett Bay. 23 years ago it was a large family style amusement park. There are remnants of the past through the trees and on the boulder path. It was nice to just sit high on the hill and reflect on such a great god given day. Recognize the moments in life and a little gratitude goes a long way. Happy Exploring ????

Rocky Point Park was first conceived by Captain William Winslow in the 1840s. By 1847, he had purchased a part of the land and began to offer amusements and serve dinner in the grand dining hall.
On Sunday, September 6, 1903, blue laws prevented the National League's Boston Beaneaters from playing the Philadelphia Phillies at their usual home park, South End Grounds in Boston so the game was moved to the field at Rocky Point, where the ocean apparently came right up to the edge of the outfield. (Boston won, 3-2.)
At the Point - the new walking path at Rocky Point State Park
Episode 6 takes you up the state park's new walking path for a trip back in time to the former amusement park attractions that operated along it.
Large Hidden Waterfall in Rhode Island!
Derek Deek Diedricksen treks to Greenville, Rhode Island to return to a little know abandoned/unused mill waterfall. This waterfall, a short distance in the wood from a convenient parking lot, has a drop of over ten feet, and makes for some great, free, exploration along Route 44- a Rhode Island cut-through also loaded with antique shops, old abandoned buildings, and some good restaurants.
If visiting, use caution while crossing the thin metal bridge to get to the falls, and be discrete, as I don't know if this spot is really allowed to be visited. I HAVE heard talk from locals that they are discussing opening up this area and making it a little park, but that could just be hearsay. If you visit, be respectful, safe, and keep the area clean- please.

East Side Railroad Tunnel
A friend and I were hiking in Providence by India Point Park when we found the entrance to this tunnel. We saw no signs of other people during our time in the tunnels, but there were clear signs of people having been there in the past. It was extremely foggy inside the tunnel, and we felt uncomfortable while we were there. At different times each of us thought we had heard other voices or movement at within the tunnel.Reach out to me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
