A glimpse of Ascension Cathedral(Zenkov Cathedral) in Almaty
Wednesday(4/9/2019) Ascension Cathedral(Zenkov Cathedral) in Almaty :- Ascension Cathedral also known as Zenkov Cathedral, is a Russian Orthodox cathedral located in Panfilov Park in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Completed in 1907, this cathedral isunique as it is made out of wood but without nails. Its height is 56 meters tall, and is claimed to be the second tallest wooden building in the world and definitely the only wooden church in the World. The cathedral survived the 1911 earthquake with minimal damage, even though it was built without any nails, which some bishops attributed to divine intervention, although some credit might also be given to the advanced anti-earthquake techniques invented or employed by the architect, Andrei Pavlovich Zenkov. I was lucky to get a glimpse of the rituals of the Russian Orthodox church as the priest was conducting a early morning mass.Very few parishioner's inside the cathedral and once the mass was over tourists entered this beautiful architectural marvel of a religious faith. :- Seafarer/Blogger/Traveller Rudolph.A.Furtado.

A group of volunteers was blessed for service in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic in front of the icon of the Theotokos of Tikhvin in the city of Donetsk on Monday. The mass prayer was held in a chapel inside the former building of the SBU that is now used as the group's headquarters.
The icon was delivered from Russia's Leningrad region to the city of Donetsk on July 11, while the ceremony was carried out by the superior of the Tikhvin Assumption Monastery as he handed over the icon to the chairman of the Ministers' Council of the DNR/DPR Alexander Borodai. This resulted in the members of Novorossiya being blessed.
The icon of the Theotokos of Tikhvin is known as the protector the DNR/DPR forces. The icon was accompanied by the Tikhvin militia during the Patriotic War of 1812 and was present at the Borodino field. The icon also accompanied a Tikhvin detachment during the Crimean campaign of 1855-1856.

[Wikipedia] Slovak Catholic Eparchy of Saints Cyril and Methodius of Toronto
Slovak Catholic Eparchy of Saints Cyril and Methodius of Toronto (Latin Eparchia Sanctorum Cyrilli et Methodii Torontini Slovachorum ritus Byzantini, Slovak Torontská slovenská gréckokatolícka eparchia svätých Cyrila a Metoda) is an Eparchy for Byzantine Catholics of Slovak origin in Canada. It is part of the Slovak Greek Catholic Church sui iuris, however it is not suffragan to the metropolitan Archeparchy of Prešov, but it is subject immediately to the Congregation for the Eastern Churches. Its territory is extended on the whole territory of Canada.
The Eparchy was erected on 13 October 1980 by Pope John Paul II, who though Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, appoints the heads of some of the Eastern Catholic Churches (after consulting with the Congregations for Bishops and of the Eastern and Mission Churches, as well as the given area's Eastern Church and Western bishops, and sometimes after an election has been held by the given Church's synod council) when they lack the full structure of an eastern church such as having a patriarch, catholicos or archbishop major. Its Patron Saints are Saints Cyril and Methodius. The first bishop was Michael Rusnak, C.SS.R. (from 13 October 1980 to 11 November 1996). The eparchy is currently a vacant see (sede vacante), because on 7 May 2016, Pope Francis transferred Bishop John Stephen Pazak, who had been in office since December 2000, as Bishop (Eparch) of the Eparchy of Holy Mary of Protection of Phoenix of the Ruthenians, in Phoenix, Arizona, to serve as Apostolic Administrator of the Eparchy of Saints Cyril and Methodius of Toronto until the appointment of a new Bishop (Eparch).
As of 2016 the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Mother of God in Toronto was serving as a Cathedral Church.

Epiphany Day in Wildwood New Jersey
Wildwood, NJ - A wreath was flung into the frigid Atlantic ocean in memory of the many lives lost at 9-11. It was followed by it’s parishioners singing, while spiritual leader, Father Vlahos sprinkled his congregation with holy water. Epiphany day is traditionally observed on the 6th of January by millions of Christians around the world. But here, on Sunday, just a few day’s earlier the seaside community of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox church assembled, from both near and far.
In winter this resort town lies slumbering, awaiting the warmer days of summer, when this town swells from thousands to hundreds of thousands. “We hosted the event a few day’s early, to allow folks to come in from out of town on a Sunday”, said Father Vlahos, a 50 year veteran of Orthodoxy. He’s been this congregation's spiritual leader for 22 years now, and holds a keen sense of when it’s time to host services and observe feast days.
The symbolic moment was repeated again, but this time a cross tied to a bright yellow string left the hands of an altar boy who beamed a cheerful smile. This observance commemorates Christ's baptism by John the Forerunner in the River Jordan, and the beginning of Christ's earthly ministry. In mystic commemoration of this event, the Great Blessing of Water is performed on this day, and the holy water so blessed is used by the local priest to bless the homes of the faithful. In this case, it was the congregation and the Atlantic.
The song of prayer was carried by the bay winds as the cross was retrieved by Bill Mitchell, the president of St. Demetrios. For a brief moment, the rain had stopped and the sun appeared during the ceremony. Now the grey skies of winter had returned over the Atlantic as the parishioners paraded across the seawall back into their church. Quiet had returned to the intersection of St. Demetrios and Ahepa Avenues where the church looks out over the ocean. Smiles and lighthearted chatter were shared inside as they sipped coffee over traditional New Years sweet bread.
A tiny congregation stays on here throughout the season and continues to open it’s doors on Sunday. If you ask any of them, they will tell when spring will arrive and when their fellow parishioners will return. It is the day, the church blossoms and fills again.
