Yellowstone National Park - Roosevelt Arch (2018)
The Roosevelt Arch is a rusticated triumphal arch at the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park in Gardiner, Montana, United States. Constructed under the supervision of the US Army at Fort Yellowstone, its cornerstone was laid down by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1903. The top of the arch is inscribed with a quote from the Organic Act of 1872, the legislation which created Yellowstone, which reads: For the Benefit and Enjoyment of the People.
Yellowstone National Park is an American national park located in Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. It was established by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872. Yellowstone was the first national park in the U.S. and is also widely held to be the first national park in the world. The park is known for its wildlife and its many geothermal features, especially Old Faithful geyser, one of its most popular features. It has many types of ecosystems, but the subalpine forest is the most abundant. It is part of the South Central Rockies forests ecoregion.
Native Americans have lived in the Yellowstone region for at least 11,000 years. Aside from visits by mountain men during the early-to-mid-19th century, organized exploration did not begin until the late 1860s. Management and control of the park originally fell under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of the Interior, the first being Columbus Delano. However, the U.S. Army was subsequently commissioned to oversee management of Yellowstone for a 30-year period between 1886 and 1916. In 1917, administration of the park was transferred to the National Park Service, which had been created the previous year. Hundreds of structures have been built and are protected for their architectural and historical significance, and researchers have examined more than a thousand archaeological sites.
Yellowstone National Park spans an area of 3,468.4 square miles (8,983 km2), comprising lakes, canyons, rivers and mountain ranges. Yellowstone Lake is one of the largest high-elevation lakes in North America and is centered over the Yellowstone Caldera, the largest supervolcano on the continent. The caldera is considered an active volcano. It has erupted with tremendous force several times in the last two million years. Half of the world's geysers and hydrothermal features are in Yellowstone, fueled by this ongoing volcanism. Lava flows and rocks from volcanic eruptions cover most of the land area of Yellowstone. The park is the centerpiece of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, the largest remaining nearly-intact ecosystem in the Earth's northern temperate zone. In 1978, Yellowstone was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Gardiner, Montana and Roosevelt Arch North Entrance of Yellowstone National Park
The town of Gardiner, Montana is nestled at the southern end of Paradise valley and directly at the North Entrance of Yellowstone National Park. Gardiner is a quaint western town that offers a small variety of restaurants, lodging options, and shops.
As we travel along Old Yellowstone Trail road we see many animals including Elk, and antelope. We visit the Roosevelt Arch at the North entrance of Yellowstone National Park.
We also Vist the Iron Horse Bar and Grille in Gardiner for dinner. We try the Bison burger and the ribs. We had a great time in this beautiful town and highly recommend anyone who is thinking about visiting.
The Roosevelt Arch is my favorite place in America
I was brought to tears seeing this monument for the first time in my life. Even when I watched this video it makes me cry.

Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States, primarily known as a great conservationist, started the National Park System. Theodore Roosevelt was also an active Mason who exemplified the spirit and brotherhood of Masonry while serving as President. He was initiated on January 2, 1901, Matinecock Lodge No. 806, Oyster Bay, New York. He believed in Masonry until his death.
Mammoth Hot Springs, located adjacent to Fort Yellowstone and Mammoth Hot Springs Historic District, is a large complex of hot springs on a travertine hill in northern Yellowstone National Park. Terrace Mountain at Mammoth Hot Springs was created thousands of years ago as hot water from the spring cooled and deposited calcium carbonate. Algae living in the warm pools have tinted the travertine beautiful shades of brown, orange, red, and green.

Things To Do in Yellowstone National Park
When beginning your trip planning, it's helpful to know that Yellowstone National Park sits in three different states - 96% in Wyoming, 3% in Montana, and 1% in Idaho. After securing your method of travel, you can then determine which of the five (5) park entrances makes the most sense for you to begin your journey.
This iconic park sits over the Yellowstone Caldera, an active supervolcano which sprouted the park's bubbling geysers and colorful hot springs. The volcano last erupted 640,000+ years ago and visiting today will provide hints of what lies beneath the surface.

Elk Herd Passing Through Roosevelt Arch
As I was leaving Yellowstone for the evening, it turned out quite a few elk were on their way in... right through the Roosevelt Arch (quite a few were still hanging out in the Gardiner high school football field). This catches the tail end of it... Unfortunately my camera was not prepared for the low light conditions, and my SD card wasn't allowing more than 6 seconds of HD video at a time. Sorry...
