Tulsk Priory - county Roscommon - Ireland
Tulsk Priory. Just a place i foudn on the side of the road along my adventures. You can puase it on the information board there and read all about it, other than that im going to like always walk around it and give my own stuipid commentary haha. Enjoy!
Information:
Tulsk priory was founded in 1448 as a Dominican House. It would have had a commuity of four to six friars and relied for the most part on the support of its local patrons and the descendants of the founding family. The founder is disputed, but was either a member of the MacDowell family, or Felim, son of Felim Clery O'Conor. By 1578, the friars had moved on from Tulsk, apparently never to return. Today the standing remains of the priory comprise a nave, transept and a tower house. The nave would have been the main body of the church. The transept or side aisle would have been added later. There is evidence to suggest there was a cloister to the north of the priory. The tower house was likely to have been a fortification added to the defunct priory by English government troops in the late sixteenth century to protect a small English garrison.
In recent years it became apparent that Tulsk Priory was at high risk of collapse, in particular the highest sections of the tower house. In 2013 major conservation works were carried out on Tulsk priory, as an action of the County Roscommon Heritage Plan 2012-2016.

Castlelyons Carmelite Friary
Castlelyons Carmelite Friary was built in 1309 by John de Barry for the Carmelite Order. The Friary was dedicated to The Blessed Virgin Mary. Situated 7klms from Fermoy in County Cork, Ireland. After the reformation the Abbey came into the hands of Richard Boyle, Earl of Cork. His daughter Alice married David, 1st. Earl of Barrymore in 1621. It was for this couple that the castle at Castlelyons was built. Her father left her this property in his will and thus this land came into the ownership of the Barrymores.

Creevelea Friary, Dromahair, Ireland
Creevelea Franciscan Friary was founded by Owen O'Rourke and his wife, Margaret, in 1508 and was the last Franciscan friary to be founded in Ireland before the Suppression of the Monasteries. The friary was accidentally burned in 1536 and suppressed five years later. However it continued in use and the friars took possession again in 1601. Some Franciscans repaired the church in 1642 but were forced to leave by the Cromwellians. They were allowed to return later and roof the church with thatch but probably left towards the end of the 17th century.
