In this video, Windy Canyon is a volcanic rock formation located in the centre east of the island that offers spectacular views of Okiwi to the north and Awana to the south.
The canyon is less than 200 m below the summit of Mount Hobson (Māori: Hirakimata)the highest point of the island at 621m above sea level.
Palmers Track winds through the canyon and then on to Mt Hobson. NEW ZEALAND

Phillipe Cousteau visits Rotoroa Island in NZ
Recently Philippe Cousteau visited Rotoroa Island, a predator free haven located in Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf.
An environmentalist and film-maker, Philippe is also grandson of late conservationist Jacques Cousteau. Phillipe got to witness first-hand the unique partnership that exists between Auckland Zoo and Rotoroa Island. This has seen the island flourish in its role as a New Zealand wildlife sanctuary for native birds such as our kiwi, takahē, tĪeke (saddleback) and pateke.
Why not see it for yourself? Rotoroa Island is only an hour away from central Auckland travelling on a Fullers 360 Discovery ferry.

Motutapu Island in Auckland's Hauraki Gulf is a 30-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland and is connected to Rangitoto Island by a natural causeway.

Rotoroa Island in the Hauraki Gulf which has been closed to the public for almost 100 years, is now open for day visitors. It has changed from being a Salvation Army drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre to a conservation area.
