edinburgh itinerary 48 hrs august
Edinburgh is a small compact city and the easiest way to see the major attractions are the hop on bus. This will take around an hour and a half and you can jump off and explore the city. In 48hrs I would not do the tour out to the Forth Bridges but would choose one of two top attractions and do them well. Eg. Edinburgh Castle/Holyrood Palace or Royal Yacht Britannia. Many attractions are busy first thing in morning and late afternoon is often a good option.
(For the best quality to watch this video make sure you click setting, the gear symbol on bottom right of your screen and click on quality auto 1080)
Lunch and breakfast options are plentiful just off major routes. Wander behind Royal mile for some great restaurants and can't go wrong been in the city for a long time include Martin Wishart Leith, Fishers, Leith, Ship on Shore and Ondine.
City centre can't go wrong, Cafe Marylene, Honours, Ivy, Dishoom, plenty restaurants far end Rose street.
if you are feeling energetic try the new Just eat bikes. Hire for one hour or one day. Download the app, load a credit card, get your code and unlock your bike. No helmets provided but good cycle paths in Edinburgh away from main roads.
August is the month for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The 2019 Edinburgh festival runs from August 2nd to aug 26th. A month long celebration of arts and culture throughout the city of Edinburgh. Read on for essential tips and other top attractions.
the Book Festival - 10th - 26th -August 2019
Military Tattoo - 2nd - 26 August 2019
The city centre is easy to access by train/tram/bus or taxi and takes around 25 mins. Tram is cheap and easy to use and is direct from Edinburgh airport. Check the tram route to guarantee less walking with suitcases. The Airport bus is a good option and taxi for 4 expect to pay around £22-26 depending on your location.
The top attractions include
The royal Botanical Gardens. The Palace of Holyrood. Dynamic Earth. The Royal Mile. Edinburgh Castle. Princes street. The Royal Yacht Britannia is where the British Royal family spent their vacations onboard here. It even has its own post office.
The ships engines are immaculate and worth a look, it has sailed over one million miles around the world...Visitors can also enjoy afternoon tea onboard the vessel. Afternnoon tea cannot be pre booked sadly.
Booking tickets online for the Royal Yacht ensures speedy entrance.
The yacht is berthed in Leith and is beside a shopping complex with plenty of restaurants and coffee shops. This is also the cruise terminal port in the city centre if arriving by cruise ship.
Visit the historic Museum of Scotland and explore Scottish history and culture through the generations from the Celtic Pics, to the medieval days and the Victorian days. See the replica coffin of Mary Queen of Scots.

Copenhagen Travel Video Guide
Copenhagen Travel Video Guide - Be it sea or canal, water surrounds Copenhagen. A network of bridges and drawbridges connects the two main islands—Zealand and Amager—on which Copenhagen is built. The seafaring atmosphere is indelible, especially around the districts of Nyhavn and Christianshavn.
Copenhagen is small, with most sights within 2½ square km (1 square mile) of its center. Sightseeing, especially downtown, is best done on foot at an unhurried pace. Or follow the example of the Danes and rent a bike. That said, excellent bus and train systems can come to the rescue of weary legs on your Copenhagen travel.
With just one day in Copenhagen, start at Kongens Nytorv and Nyhavn and head up the pedestrian street of Strøget in the direction of Rådhuspladsen. You can detour to see the exteriors of Christiansborg, Børsen, Rundetårn, and Rosenborg Slot along the way. If you're not up for a walk, one of the guided canal tours will give you a good sense of the city. In summer or around Christmas time, round off your day with a relaxed stroll and nightcap in Tivoli. With additional days in Copenhagen, plan to spend time inside one or more of the following: Rosenborg Slot, Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Nationalmuseet, Statens Museum for Kunst, and Kastellet. Alternatively, make your way toward one of the surrounding neighborhoods: Christianshavn for small café-lined canals; Christiania for hippie and alternative culture past and present; or Nørrebro and Vesterbro for a mixture of ethnic shops and trendy youth culture. Noteworthy side trips for longer stays include the expansive park of Dyrehaven in Charlottenlund, the Lilliputian village of Dragør, the historic castle in Hillerød, the modern art museum Louisiana in Humlebæk, Hamlet's castle in Helsingør, and the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde.
Some Copenhagen sights, especially churches, keep short hours, particularly in fall and winter. It's a good idea to call ahead or check with the tourist offices to confirm opening times. Just The Best Copenhagen Travel Video Guide!
Amsterdam
Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | Amsterdam — Europe's best-preserved 17th-century city — is simultaneously quaint and jarring, traditional and modern. Filled with history and still happy-go-lucky, it's a delight to explore. Uniquely entertaining Amsterdam shows off its Rembrandts and Van Goghs, more bikes than cars, flirting prostitutes, and pot-filled coffeeshops — all under tall, skinny facades leaning out over placid canals.

CRHnews - London's Kamikaze Cyclists SMART PHONE VERSION
Check out:
Cyclists are not doing any favours for themselves as the video shot on the streets of London illustrates, flashing past wearing dark clothing and no helmets like they have a death wish.
Seven cyclists recently died on the streets of London in 13 days in November bringing the grim total so far in 2013 to 14 - and rising?
Hardly any in this movie were wearing a safety helmet, a hi-vis vest or bothered with lights - those who did maybe had a tiny flashing micro-light tucked into their dark coloured back-pack.
Despite the evening rush hour on Friday, December 6, 2013, some of the wannabee kamikazes looked as if they were kitted out for a wide Dutch cycle path on a sunny day, not the jam-packed killing lanes of the capital.
A minority DO wear helmets, an even small number DO wear helmets and hi-vis tops, and some crazy cyclists have helmets, hi-vis and lights - but they are the exception to the rule if this video is indicative of a wider picture of why there are so many road kills and serious injuries in the dangerous world of street cycling.
As for Boris Bikes - how on earth does Health and Safety allow cycles to be used without helmets, hi-vis vests and fit-for-purpose lights - and why on earth are they painted black/blue, rather than all white or yellow day-glo!!!!!
Check out bad cycling such as haring the wrong way down a Bus Lane - most of the excerpts are shown at half the speed the cyclists were belting along and weaving in and out.
Most of them wore woolly hats, dark clothing and a false cloak of invincibility - not surprising they are being mown down by HGV at busy junctions as they pull up on the blind side like they own the road.
Don't get me wrong nobody can survive an argument with a lorry, but when the driver runs over a dark shadow who is to blame?
A few of the cyclists were wearing helmets, hi-vis vests and they stood out - but even they didnt have lights on their helmets or more than one back and front light, surely an array of lights at dusk could make the difference between a coffee and a coffin?

DICING WITH DEATH IN LONDON
A recent spate of cyclist deaths in London has prompted a debate in the UK over what to do to increase safety on the roads.
In November, six people died riding bicycles within a period of less than two weeks - the tragedies brought criticism of cycling infrastructure introduced by London's mayor, Boris Johnson.
In response to the deaths, police have launched a major road safety operation, deploying hundreds of police officers at road junctions around central London.
And politicians are taking note too -members of the UK parliament held a hearing on cycle safety this week.
And some cyclists even staged a die-in simulating death to highlight the issue on London's streets.
Boris Johnson says the city is getting safer for cyclists, despite the recent deaths.
But if you cycle around London, it's difficult to ignore the so called ghost bikes chained to the railings and spray painted white, sometimes covered in flowers, to mark the place where a cyclist lost their lives.

SUMMARY
=======
Copenhagen (Danish: København [købm̩ˈhɑwˀn] (listen)) is the capital and most populous city of Denmark. As of July 2018, the city has a population of 777,218 (616,098 in Copenhagen Municipality, 103,914 in Frederiksberg Municipality, 43,005 in Tårnby Municipality, and 14,201 in Dragør Municipality). It forms the core of the wider urban area of Copenhagen (population 1,627,705) and the Copenhagen metropolitan area (population 2,057,737). Copenhagen is situated on the eastern coast of the island of Zealand; another small portion of the city is located on Amager, and is separated from Malmö, Sweden, by the strait of Øresund. The Øresund Bridge connects the two cities by rail and road.
Originally a Viking fishing village established in the 10th century in the vicinity of what is now Gammel Strand, Copenhagen became the capital of Denmark in the early 15th century. Beginning in the 17th century it consolidated its position as a regional centre of power with its institutions, defences and armed forces. After suffering from the effects of plague and fire in the 18th century, the city underwent a period of redevelopment. This included construction of the prestigious district of Frederiksstaden and founding of such cultural institutions as the Royal Theatre and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. After further disasters in the early 19th century when Horatio Nelson attacked the Dano-Norwegian fleet and bombarded the city, rebuilding during the Danish Golden Age brought a Neoclassical look to Copenhagen's architecture. Later, following the Second World War, the Finger Plan fostered the development of housing and businesses along the five urban railway routes stretching out from the city centre.
Since the turn of the 21st century, Copenhagen has seen strong urban and cultural development, facilitated by investment in its institutions and infrastructure. The city is the cultural, economic and governmental centre of Denmark; it is one of the major financial centres of Northern Europe with the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. Copenhagen's economy has seen rapid developments in the service sector, especially through initiatives in information technology, pharmaceuticals and clean technology. Since the completion of the Øresund Bridge, Copenhagen has become increasingly integrated with the Swedish province of Scania and its largest city, Malmö, forming the Øresund Region. With a number of bridges connecting the various districts, the cityscape is characterised by parks, promenades and waterfronts. Copenhagen's landmarks such as Tivoli Gardens, The Little Mermaid statue, the Amalienborg and Christiansborg palaces, Rosenborg Castle Gardens, Frederik's Church, and many museums, restaurants and nightclubs are significant tourist attractions. The largest lake of Denmark, Arresø, lies around 27 miles (43 kilometers) northwest of the City Hall Square.
Copenhagen is home to the University of Copenhagen, the Technical University of Denmark, Copenhagen Business School and the IT University of Copenhagen. The University of Copenhagen, founded in 1479, is the oldest university in Denmark. Copenhagen is home to the FC København and Brøndby football clubs. The annual Copenhagen Marathon was established in 1980. Copenhagen is one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the world.
The Copenhagen Metro launched in 2002 serves central Copenhagen while the Copenhagen S-train and Lokaltog (private railway) and the Coast Line network serves and connects central Copenhagen to outlying boroughs. To relieve traffic congestion, which is partly the result of increased traffic because of the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link road and rail construction is planned because the narrow 9-9.5 mile isthmus between Roskilde Fjord and Køge Bugt (Køge Bay) forms a traffic bottleneck. The Copenhagen-Ringsted Line will relieve traffic congestion in the corridor between Roskilde and Copenhagen.
