MESS IT UP! - A Movember Exhibiton
MESS IT UP!, The Third Annual Movember Exhibition, on November 7th at the RHA Gallery, Dublin from 7 PM, featuring the worlds most renowned creatives.
Description
Designer Gianni Clifford and Curator Orlaith Ross are delighted to present the Third Annual Movember Poster Exhibition this November 7th, in the Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin featuring some of the biggest names in the creative industry.
This November, Movember is back with a bang taking to the streets to inspire change and to motivate Mo Bros and Mos Sistas across the country to fight the good fight. This year we celebrate 'GenMo' (Generation Moustache), in recognition of the people who break the rules, the people who take the road less travelled and the people who not only started the revolution but who keep the fire lit. Its not just the men but the women who are changing the face of men's health.
Established in 2011, the exhibition has grown from strength to strength. Last year's theme was 'Pass It On!' - the passing on of men's health knowledge, to encourage men to talk about their own health issues. Pass It On! raised over €3,500 in one night for Movember and spread an uncharted amount of awareness for men's health issues in Ireland.
The theme this year, inspired by Movember, is 'Mess It Up!'. A celebration of the people who not only break the rules but inspire change. The revolutionaries who take the road less travelled. The radicals who break the mold for others to follow. The instigators of the tomorrow.
This exhibition brings together the world's greatest living graphic designers, with over twenty five designers, photographers and illustrators including Milton Glaser. Featuring original printed work for sale and taking inspiration from Movember and the the idea of 'Messing It Up', this exhibition will break new ground for design in Ireland.
International creatives include, Ben Bos with his timeless and elegant dutch design, leading contemporary British born artist Jon Burgerman, The studio of Pentagram NY, the world's largest independent design consultancy and Andre da Lobe illustrator for the New York Times, to name but a few.
While there is a strong representative from Ireland with Dutch-based creatives , The Stone Twins and internationally renowned Irish photographers including Dan Dennison, Linda Brownlee and Matthew Thompson.
The exhibition will also feature the work of widely-acclaimed painter and illustrator, Oliver Jeffers, best known for his series of picture books for young children, Aiden Grennell from the award winning design studio, Image Now .

World's First 3D Surface Anatomy Guide
The world's first 3D surface anatomy guide for medical and physiotherapy students, surgical trainees and artists has been developed in Ireland through a unique collaboration between anatomists, artists and engineers. Launched today in the Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA) in Dublin, the two year project, funded by Science Foundation Ireland and the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (RCSI), has resulted in an on-line 3D guide which shows the motions of muscles and the sites of structures from the surface inwards. It shows how, by using movement, colour, illustration and 3D technology, anatomists, engineers and artists can collaborate to teach the body from the outside in.

Dublin Contemporary 2011
The title and theme of Dublin Contemporary 2011 is Terrible Beauty—Art, Crisis, Change & The Office of Non-Compliance. Taken from William Butler Yeats' famous poem Easter, 1916, the exhibition's title borrows from the Irish writer's seminal response to turn-of-the-century political events to site art's underused potential for commenting symbolically on the world's societal, cultural and economic triumphs and ills. The second part of the exhibition's title underscores Dublin Contemporary 2011's emphasis on art that captures the spirit of the present time, while introducing the exhibition's chief organizational engine: The Office of Non-Compliance. Headed up by Dublin Contemporary 2011 lead curators Jota Castro (artist/curator) and Christian Viveros-Fauné (critic/curator), The Office of Non-Compliance will function as a collaborative agency within Dublin Contemporary 2011, establishing creative solutions for real or symbolic problems that stretch the bounds of conventional art experience.
The Office of Non-Compliance, located within the Earlsfort Terrace exhibition site, will function as a promoter of ideas around a laundry list of non-conformist art proposals. The Office's practice will be fuelled by the idea that not only has the world been transformed in the last few decades, the very concept of change itself has changed utterly. This element of the exhibition looks to highlight less conventional, largely artist-led models of art discourse, production and presentation. The Office of Non-Compliance will include ad-hoc, accessible structures for discourse around art and its place in society, such as a Bank of Problems, a Bank of Possibilities, One Problem a Week and a curated forum exploring one topical problem per week.
There are two further intriguing spaces within the Earlsfort Terrace complex: the serene Iveagh Gardens and the light-filled Annex, both adjacent to the main exhibition site.
Extending its reach across the city, Dublin Contemporary 2011 will partner with four important Dublin galleries: The Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane, The National Gallery of Ireland and The Royal Hibernian Academy.
