The Royal Mews, Buckingham Palace - London Attractions
Buckingham Palace is one of the most famous and top attractions of the city; for the way it appear, for being the royal palace or for another reason - no one knows, but it is always found among the list of places which people write down when they visit London.
One of the top reasons behind the visit that the tourists pay to the Buckingham Palace during their stay is to witness the change of the guards but there is a history behind that palace which might attract lots of other people to it (
Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence of the UK's sovereigns since 1837 and today it is the administrative headquarters of the Monarch. Buckingham Palace is mainly known for its use in the different official events and receptions which are held by the Royal Family, but the State Rooms in the Palace are also open to the visitors in summer.
Being a touristic attraction, tourists always wonder about the hugeness of this palace, they ask about the rooms it is housing and the different other things it might have. There are 775 rooms in Buckingham Palace, these include 19 State rooms, 52 Royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms. When measuring the dimensions of the palace as a whole and knowing its size, it is found to be 108 meters long across the front, 120 meters deep and 24 meters high.
One of the things related to Buckingham Palace which is considered part of it is the Royal Mews which is found inside the Palace and which is responsible for all the road travel arrangements for the Queen and members of the Royal Family. The Royal Mews is open to the public every year from February to November and it gives the people the permission to know more about the living part of Britain's heritage.
Inside the Royal Mews, there are some spotted things which you will find every single visitor talking about and these include the Gold State Coach which is the grandest coach at the Royal Mews, it weighs almost 4 tonnes, it needs 8 horses to draw it and it never moves faster than the walking speed.
There are also the Carriage Horses which are found in two different types inside the palace: the Windsor Greys and the Cleveland Bays. Windsor Greys are the ones that draw carriages in which The Queen, other members of the Royal Family and some guests travel in, and they are usually chosen for their steady temperament and stamina. The Cleveland Bays are used to pick up high commissioners and ambassadors presenting their credentials to The Queen, for other day-to-day activities and they are also used as work horses.
The Diamond Jubilee State Coach is also found in the Royal Mews at the Buckingham Palace, which was built to celebrate The Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The Diamond Jubilee is the newest coach at the Mews and it was first used at the State Opening of Parliament in 2014. This coach is over 5 meters long, weighs over 3 tonnes and it needs 6 horses to pull it.
While visiting the Royal Mews at the Buckingham Palace and after checking these important coaches which are found there, you could try out a Royal carriage and take some pictures. It is interesting to do the same as The Queen and try waving your hand while sitting in the replica Semi-State Landau which was popular with Queen Victoria who used them on the ceremonial occasions. In addition to trying out one of the carriages, you could also see the livery that is worn by the Queen's coachmen - you will find different ones since they change according to the different occasions. Inside the Royal Mews, children could also experience tacking up a wooden pony to get it ready to pull a carriage, just in the same way the real horses are connected to the carriages with using the leather harnesses.
It is really interesting to visit the Royal Mews at the Buckingham Palace and not just stop at checking the change of the guards outside the palace, take those pictures in front of it or even get the chance to enter the palace if you are visiting during the months it is open to the public in.
London is not just about Buckingham Palace, but there are also other important attractions that tourists tend to visit during their stay, these attractions include the famous Tower of London which is located just beside Tower Bridge ( Big Ben ( Coca-Cola London Eye and its views over the city ( Chinatown in London ( and there is also London Aquarium (
We definitely suggest the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace if you will be there during the months it opens in to feel a little bit Royal with seeing and checking the things found inside.
