Mysore Food Tour | Part - 1/2 I Karnataka Food Tour I India Food Tour
In Mysore, I was joined by Keerthana. We started our food journey with Mysore’s most famous dish - Mylari Dosa at Mylari Agrahara. Here, we tried two different variants, sagu masala dosa and plain dosa with dollops of butter over it. I must say this was the softest dosa I ever had.
After having Mylari Dosa , we went on to try a combination of three different dosas - Ragi Dosa, Pudi Masala Dosa and Plain Dosa.
Next, keerthana introduced us to Mallige idli. These soft, spongy, aromatic, white idlis got its name due to its texture and resemblance with the jasmine flowers.
For lunch, I went on my own to try the famous mutton pilav at Hanumanthu hotel. Established in 1930, the place has a homely ambience. The pulav is cooked over firewood which adds a unique taste to it. Served on a dried leaf, the mildy spiced greasy pulav was delicious.
To try the rural food of Karnataka, Keerthana took us to Uncle lobo’s restaurant. Here at Uncle Lobo’s we learned how to make ragi mudde.
To try some classic home based Karnataka dishes, we visited anima madhva bhawan. Here we had the heritage platter.
Mysore is synonymous with Mysore Pak - a sweet that is made up of gram flour, cardamom, ghee, sugar and turmeric. The best place to have mysore pak is Guru Sweet mart. The owners of the Guru mart are descendants of the royal cook Kakasura Madappa, who is credited with inventing the sweet. It is said that one day Kakasura Madappa was asked by the king to produce a “different” sweet, one that would go by the name of Mysore. “So he cooked up this dish and called it Mysore Pak.”

MYSORE PALACE & CHAMUNDI HILL AND TEMPLE! | Mysore Vlog
I visited the very impressive Mysore Palace in the City Centre of Mysore, I was pretty happy as it was only 50Rs to get in, I did then pay 180Rs for the residential quarter of the palace which I didn't think was worth it.
Just opposite the palace are lots of markets in Mysore so I had a look around them before heading to Chamundi Hill and Temple. I took a local bus from Mysore Palace bus station to Chamundi hill which was so easy and cheap, just 30Rs each way. I didn't go inside the Hindu Temple but I was surprised how busy it was at the top, including lots of yellow cows. I did walk down some steps to see the Nandi statue before leaving.
I liked Mysore but I stayed in the wrong area, Mysore is known for it's yoga but that's in Gokulam which is where I went the day before to sit in some cafes, I wish I had stayed there and I think I would have enjoyed it more.

Mysore sightseeing achieved in 12 epic hours | Majestic Mysore, India (S. India Ep 13)
We squeezed every attraction in Mysore into one epic 12 hour Mysore Sightseeing Tour. This method is not for the faint of heart, but it's popular with domestic tourists and a lot of Mysore's best attractions are a way out of town. We loved the Palace, Chamundi Hill, the old fort area, and the amazing KRS Dam. What a day!

Mysore is located in the South Indian state of Karnataka around 140 km from Bangalore. Mysore is well connected through road and rail networks with other parts of Karnataka and India.
Mysore city was the capital of the old royal Mysore province. The word Mysore expands to Mahishasurana Ooru which means the town of Mahishasura. The story goes that the demon Mahishasura was killed by goddess Chamundeshwari atop the Chamundi hill near Mysore, hence the name. Ever since, the Mysore royal family has worshipped Chamundeshwari as the palace deity. Hills dedicated to her stand at the eastern end of Mysore town today.
Dussehra in Mysore is a sight one would remember for a long time even after leaving the place. It is believed that the presiding deity of the city has the power to conquer evil forces and this has led the citizens to celebrate the festival with much gaiety and fervor.
During the month of October and November, for ten days the Dussehra festival is celebrated and the city is at its colorful best with music and dance, Sports, Literary competitions, fairs and exhibitions all over. All this culminates in the Dussehra procession and a torchlight parade on the tenth day.

Mysore Palaces a historical palace and a royal residence at Mysore in the Indian State of Karnataka. It is the official residence of the Wadiyar dynasty. The palace is in the centre of Mysore, and faces the Chamundi Hills eastward.Mysore is commonly described as the 'City of Palaces', and there are seven palaces including this one; however, 'Mysore Palace' refers specifically to this one within the Old Fort. Yaduraya built the first palace inside the Old Fort in the 14th century, which was demolished and constructed multiple times. The current structure was constructed between 1897 and 1912, after the Old Palace was burnt ablaze. The last palace, now known as the Old Palace or the Wooden Palace, was burnt into ashes during the 1896 Dasara festivities. Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV and his mother Maharani Kempananjammanni Devi, commissioned the British architect Lord Henry Irwin to build a new palace.
