Places to see in ( Munich - Germany ) Ruhmeshalle und Bavaria
The Ruhmeshalle (literally hall of fame) is a Doric colonnade with a main range and two wings, designed by Leo von Klenze for Ludwig I of Bavaria. It is situated on an ancient ledge above the Theresienwiese in Munich and was built as part of a complex which also includes the Bavariapark and the Bavaria statue. It is built of Kelheim limestone and is 68 metres long and 32 metres deep.
With the construction and exhibition of busts of important people from Bavaria, including the Palatinate, Franconia and Swabia, King Ludwig intended to create a hall of fame that honors laudable and distinguished people of his kingdom, as he did also in the Walhalla memorial for all of Germany.
The ensemble of Bavaria with Ruhmeshalle (Hall of Fame) is located on a bank at the West side of Theresienwiese, where the Oktoberfest is held annually. From her lofty location, the monumental statue of the Bavaria overlooks the Theresienwiese as well as the neighboring quarters. The statue was a technical masterstroke of her time: she is made of pure bronze and weighs more than 70 tons with her height of 18 meters. After her inauguration during the 25th Oktoberfest in 1850, she quickly became the symbol and guardian of the state Bavaria.
The lady is portrayed in Germanic style: she is vested in a bearskin, holds an oak crown in her left hand and a lion at the leash in her right hand. You can walk up a small spiral staircase inside the body. In the head of the statue is a small platform, where max. 3 persons will fit. Therefore sometimes you have to wait quite a while for your turn to glimpse through the four tiny windows. But you'll be rewarded with a spectacular view over the Theresienwiese and the city of Munich.

Bavaria Statue, Oktoberfest Munich, Bavaria, Germany, Europe
Bavaria is the name given to a monumental, bronze sand-cast 19th-century statue in Munich, southern Germany. It is a female personification of the Bavarian homeland, and by extension its strength and glory. The statue is part of an ensemble which also includes a hall of fame (Ruhmeshalle) and a stairway. It was commissioned by Ludwig I of Bavaria, with the specific design being chosen by competition. It was cast at the Munich foundry of J.B. Stiglmair between 1844 and 1850 and is the first colossal statue since Classical Antiquity to consist entirely of cast bronze. It was and is up to the present day considered a technological masterpiece. Because of its size it had to be produced in several parts; it is 18.52 metres high and weighs about 87.36 tons. It rests on a stone base which is 8.92 metres high. An internal circular staircase leads up to a platform in the head, where four openings in the helmet provide a view of the Theresienwiese and downtown Munich. The childhood of Ludwig I was marked by the claims to power of Napoleon on the one hand, and Austria on the other. At that time the venerable House of Wittelsbach which he represented had been reduced to a plaything for the ambitions of these two major powers. Up until 1805, when Napoleon freed Munich in the War of the Second Coalition and made Ludwig's father, Maximilian, king of Bavaria, that nation had repeatedly been a theater of war and had suffered the disastrous consequences. Only after Napoleon's defeat in the Battle of Leipzig in 1813 did Bavaria enjoy a period of peace. This history prompted Ludwig already when he was crown prince to think in terms of a Bavaria comprising all tribes and of a great German nation. These goals motivated him in following years to undertake several projects involving the construction of national monuments like the pillar commemorating the Bavarian constitution of 1818 in Gaibach, the Walhalla temple on an imposing platform overlooking the Danube river and the town of Donaustauf east of Regensburg, the Hall of Fame in Munich (1853) and the Befreiungshalle (Hall of Liberation) near Kehlheim (1863), all of which were privately financed by the king. In their design and contents, purpose and reception they convey an artistic and political harmony unique in Germany, despite their inner contradictions. Ludwig, who acceded to the throne upon the death of his father in 1825, felt a spiritual closeness to Greece, was an enthusiastic admirer of Ancient Greece, and wanted to turn his capital city of Munich into an Athens on the Isar River. Ludwig's second born son Otto was proclaimed King of Greece in 1832. The bronze statue was sand-cast using a process resulting in four major parts (head, bust, hips, lower half with lion) and a number of smaller pieces which were attached later.Klenze proposed that the huge statue be cast in bronze. Ever since Classical Antiquity this alloy had been an esteemed material, valued for its long-lasting qualities, and Ludwig, who wanted to create an enduring legacy, strongly favored bronze. The king therefore supported the Munich metal founder Johann Baptist Stiglmaier and his nephew Ferdinand von Miller and revived the long tradition of bronze casting in Munich by setting up a new foundry, the Royal Metal Foundry (Königliche Erzgießerei), which went into operation on Munich's Nymphenburger Strasse in 1825. From the end of 1839 on, Schwanthaler and numerous assistants were engaged in producing a full-sized plaster model of the Bavaria statue. In 1844 an initial, four meter high auxiliary model had been completed. In late summer 1843 the finished full-size model could be dismantled in preparation for using the pieces as models for the castings. Stiglmaier died before this work could begin in 1844 and Miller took over leadership of the project. On September 11, 1844 the head of the Bavaria statue was cast using metal from bronze Turkish cannon salvaged from the 1827 naval Battle of Navarino (modern-day Pylos on the west coast of the Peloponnese peninsula). These cannon had been sold in Europe as recycling material under the then Greek King Otto, son of Ludwig I, and a number of them had reached Bavaria. In January and March 1845 the arms were cast and on October 11, 1845 the bust. The hip section was cast the following year and in July 1848 the entire upper portion of the statue was finished. The last major casting, for the lower section, took place on December 1, 1849. On March 20, 1848 Ludwig I was forced to abdicate the throne in favor of his son Maximilian, which had consequences for the continuation of the monument project since the Bavaria statue and the Hall of Honor, as with all of Ludwig's national monuments, were carried out and financed privately. Although Maximilian obligated himself to continue the project, only 9,000 gulders per year were allocated for it in his budget, which was completely inadequate.

A look at the oktoberfest site of Theresienwiese, Munich, Germany.
I thought that oktoberfest was a Munich-wide event rather than one which has a permanent site. I visited Theresienwiese in Munich in late July and work was already underway on the very impressive beer halls. I counted 18 but there are bound to be more than that.
I also find the Bavaria Statue and Ruhmeshalle (Hall of Fame) which I really had not expected. The Ruhmeshalle is a very weird place, a wall of white heads.

Theresienwiese is an open space in the Munich borough of Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt. It serves as the official ground of the Munich Oktoberfest. A space of 420,000 square metres (4,500,000 sq ft), it is bordered in the west by the Ruhmeshalle and the Bavaria statue, symbolizing the State of Bavaria, and in the east by Esperantoplatz, a square named for the international language Esperanto.
There, a memorial commemorates the victims of the 1980 Oktoberfest bombing. Bavariaring, an orbital road, provides access to visiting traffic. In the north the towers of St. Paul are visible. The name of the site is derived from the name of Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen, the wife of Crown Prince Ludwig I. Their wedding took place on Theresienwiese in 1810.
Since then, the Oktoberfest is celebrated every year to commemorate this event. In addition to the Oktoberfest, a spring festival and a winter festival (Winter Tollwood) take place there as well. Every year in April, one of Germany's largest flea markets is also held there.
The site is located south west of the city centre. It has its own station on the Munich U-Bahn system, on the U4 and U5 lines and the Poccistraße and Goetheplatz stations can be found near the southern end. The nearest Munich S-Bahn station is Hackerbrücke or München Hauptbahnhof (Munich central station).

Places to see in ( Munich - Germany ) Isartor
The Isartor at the Isartorplatz in Munich is one of four main gates of the medieval city wall. It served as a fortification for the defence and is the most easterly of Munich's three remaining gothic town gates (Isartor, Sendlinger Tor and Karlstor). The gate (German: Tor) is located close to the Isar and was named after the river. The Isartor was constructed in 1337 within the scope of the enlargement of Munich and the construction of the second city wall between 1285 and 1337 which was completed under the Emperor Louis IV.
The gate first consisted of a 40 meter high main gate tower. Only with the construction of the moat wall of the gate tower the two flanking side towers were added and served as barbican. The Isartor is today the only medieval gate in Munich which has conserved its medium main tower and the restoration in 1833-35 by Friedrich von Gärtner has recreated the dimensions and appearance close to the original structure. The frescos, created in 1835 by Bernhard von Neher, depict the victorious return of Emperor Louis after the Battle of Mühldorf in 1322.
The Isartor today houses a humorous museum which is dedicated to the comedian and actor Karl Valentin. A café for visitors has been integrated. The Isartortheater, which produced Singspiele and spoken plays in the early 19th century, was destroyed in the Second World War. After being heavily damaged by shelling, the medieval gate was rebuilt. The Isartorplatz is served by the S Bahn station which is named Isartor after the gate as well as 2 tram lines.
