Jewish Quarter, Budapest
The Jewish district is the smallest in Budapest, yet it currently has the highest population density. This combination leads to an electric atmosphere – day and night – as the streets fill with a mix of happy locals and curious tourists.
The Jewish district is full with the historical remains of the Jewish community that once thrived here. There are three synagogues in the area with the Dohány Synagogue being the largest and, indeed, the second biggest in the entire world. Complete with a cemetery, a memorial garden and a museum, you can learn all about the Holocaust and the Budapest Ghetto that existed in this area. A small section of the wall, rebuilt from some of the originally-used bricks, still exists in the courtyard of a building on Király Street.
As you walk around, you’ll no doubt notice the narrow streets and passages – just like those on Gozsdu Udvar – connecting one long street with another. And, it’s on these streets that you’ll still find the bars and boutiques that make this area so interesting.

Papa, Hungary - Holocaust Memorial Exhibition in the old destroyed Synagogue
The third largest synagogue in Hungary was built in Papa in 1846. Almost 20 meters hige and with ground space of 400 square meters, it could seat 800 people. It was burnt and destroyed during the second world war. Recently it was cleaned (but not restored) and an exhibition of Jewish families lived in Papa is now on display there. The organizers hope to raise the money to restore the place to it's former glory.

This old Hasidic Lubavitch Synagogue of Budapest's Jewish District, in a tiny Street, called Vasvari is run by rabbi Baruch Oberlander and visited regularly by many Jewish men, women and families. All events are celebrated here with the daily prayers and Shabat, as well.
I was emotionally deeply touched by the serenity of the place, by the real, traditional and, at the same time, individual presence of the men.
I dedicate this video to the memories of my Father.

Megérintett az ottani hangulat, az elmélyült jelenlét és figyelem, a hit (vagy biztos tudás) ereje, az ott lévők rituális viselkedése, kötött szabályok között szabadon, öntörvényűen, valamint a tóratekercs felmutatásakor és a tóraolvasáskor tapasztalt elmerülés és koncentráció, szeretet és áhitatos tisztelet.
És ehhez még a hely súlyos múltja, az örökkévalóság érzete.
Több alkalommal is úgy éreztem, mint egy időutazó. Lehetnénk 10, 50, 100, 130 évvel, vagy akár évszázadokkal, tán ezredekkel korábban... akkor is minden ugyanilyen lenne.
Remélem, ebből át tudok adni egy keveset.
Meghatódva és szeretettel készítettem a fotókat. Édesapám emlékének ajánlom ezt a zenés videót.
