A couple friends and I hiked the Russian River Falls trail in Cooper Landing, Alaska! We had a blast! The trail was kid friendly, great exercise, and a good time! We did run into some bear poop, so it's a good thing we brought guns!

Russian River Falls Hike - 2016
This was our hike to the Russian River Falls in the summer of 2016. The Russian River trail lies on the edge of the Chugach National forest, on The Kenai Peninsula of Alaska. No Bears were seen on our journey, but there was fresh Bear scat on the trail. We had a blast, and even saw some Red Salmon at the falls that were making their way back home. Thanks for Watching!

A bear called Waterfalls - McNeil River State Game Sanctuary, Alaska, June 2018
McNeil River State Game Sanctuary, Alaska, June 2018. This sequence features the female adult brown bear named “Waterfalls”. She is one of the largest and highest-ranking females at McNeil. Beyond that, she is a particular favorite of ours. We filmed Waterfalls on our first visit to McNeil in 2007. She had two second summer cubs at the time and was so very tolerant of our presence. In subsequent visits we have sometimes had short glimpses of her. But on our most recent visit we had some great encounters. Waterfalls is likely beyond the age where she can have cubs but she still commands great respect. Here are some views of Waterfalls seeking and capturing red salmon in Mikfik Creek.

Alaska Brown Bear Fishing
Alaskan Brown Bear Sow with 3 cubs fishes for Salmon in the Russian River. The Russian River is a 13-mile-long river on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. It flows northward from Upper Russian Lake in the Kenai Mountains through Lower Russian Lake, draining into the Kenai River at the town of Cooper Landing. Many sections of the Russian River/Upper Kenai are considered fly fishing only and the clear water Russian is one of the most popular red salmon fisheries in the state of Alaska. Brown and black bears are abundant in this area searching for salmon for themselves and/or their young. If you go please use precaution, common sense and be prepared.

Record Salmon Run 2019! Most Popular Places to Fish in Alaska, The Russian River
The Russian River early run sockeye salmon run was strong this year, so we decided to take the family for the first time. The Russian River is known for its combat fishing. It can get pretty crowded and people can get angry if you don't fish it right. However, we were able to find a spot where our kids could learn to fish for these hard fighting red salmon. Let's just say we caught a few limits. #HowtoAlaska
