Renting motorbikes in Thailand: Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai
We rented motorbikes in Thailand and drove from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai, and somehow managed to not die. If that's not poetry then I don't know what is.

Cha-am Motorcycle Rental - Thailand Wanderer Ep. 5 | Irnieracing
We take our Superbike Nomad adventures to Thailand. Enjoy the new travel series featuring MB and yours truly - Pro Racer Marcel Irnie.
Ep. 5 We finally get to use our motorcycle gear and Schuberth helmets with my first motorcycle rental in Thailand, a CBR 250R for 550 baht/day. I check over the Honda, noting any damage to prevent any rental issues. This episode is all about Honda, as I flashback to racing my first Honda in 2011, a borrowed 2008 CBR 1000RR at PIR. This was my first time riding a 1000cc sportbike, and it suited me well, winning the Formula Ultra race.
MB and I adventure along Cha-am beach looking for another motorcycle to rent, and we find a group of motorcyclists from Hua Hin. The common language is Moto, as the motorcyclists don't speak English.

Guide: Thai/Laos motorbike Border Crossing (Chiang Khong - Huay Xai)
Here is (hopefully) a nice straight forward guide to crossing the Thai border at Chiang Khong into Huay Xai in Laos.
*EDIT* An additional 500 baht was paid for the escort from the Thai side to the Laos side. Apologies for missing this part.
This is based on Thailand registered bikes which are our own bikes (although apparently you can obtain a letter of permission from rental companies, which will allow you to take a rental bike across).
My bike is a Kawasaki dtracker 250cc.
I am not sure of the minimum cc that is allowed through, but to my knowledge bikes under 200cc are not permitted.
Make sure all tax and registration etc is up to date.

Renting Big Bikes in Chiang Mai - 8MFH EP12
Renting Big Bikes in Chiang Mai is something we have wanted to do for a while. So when J's older brother said he was coming to North Thailand for 2 days, it was time to go for it.
8 miles from home episode 12 is what happened during those adrenaline fueled days. We took a Honda CBR 500, 3 Honda CRF 250's and a Honda Zoomer and set off to show our guests some of the beauty of Chiang Mai. Visiting the famous Wat Chedi Luang and Wat Phra Singh. Stopping at Mae Kuang Dam for a photo shoot before heading over the Highway 118 mountain pass to visit 'coffee view cafe' for a sunset dinner.
Omar El-haj, Sam Brignell, Jude Flanders and Amanda Trefry really embraced the biking spirit and as a result had an epic adventure here on Thai soil.

Hey guys,
This is Episode 32 of 32 of our trip through Thailand. We traveled to Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Krabi and Ko Lanta and back again in 3 months. We didn't vlog everyday but we filmed alot, CrossFitted alot, explored alot and drove around on scooters alot.
Driving a scooter from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai, Thailand is pretty adventurous. I wouldn't say it's dangerous, but it is a big long drive on a dangerous vehicle in the country which has the third highest road fatality rates. So this is not a safe thing to do.
This is our last vlog in Thailand before we leave to head back to the USA.
That said, I felt fine the whole time. It was very uncomfortable when it rained really hard on us, but we had somewhat waterproof gear so we were able to push through. It took alot longer than expected. These kind of adventures always do.
This vlog is a compilation of our 3 day crazy adventure.

Check out The Black Temple ➜ (Check hours of operation before you go as we got kicked out because they were closing for lunch, so we missed filming the giant BOA CONSTRICTORS. V was really disappointed about that.)

How to get to Pai on a Scooter *Exhausting AF!*
First of all sorry for the wrong timestamp on the arrival time. Having issues with time stamp on GoPro footages... Correct time is 5:37 PM making it a 5 and a half hour trip total. We took a lot of breaks so it's possible to get it done faster. Google maps had us estimate around 3 but if you're carrying backpacks like us, you'll probably take some breaks to rest your shoulders.
This video is going to let you know how to get to Pai, a popular backpacker destination, from Chiang Mai. This is a popular trip for those that are slightly more adventurous and I highly recommending taking a scooter or motorcycle from ChiangMai to Pai as it's one of the most amazing roads I have had a chance to travel on in South East Asia. It's going to sure beat being packed into a mini bus being thrown around the 700 plus curves this scenic route is going to throw at you.
It's also highly recommended as the roads are recently paved, and there isn't much traffic, making it one of the safest long distance scooter trips you can venture out on to get a feel for it. Who knows, maybe after this trip you're going to want to do the famous trip up or down Vietnam on a scooter or motorcycle.
The scooters are about 5 dollars to rent per day. We rented one for a whole week in Chiang Mai to see the sights there and simply took the same motorcycle to and back to Pai. We were able to make the journey on a tank and a half of gas. The fuel costs came out to be about a little over 5 dollars. Basically nothing....
In this video, you will see an overall explanation of how to get to Pai with maps, directions, and videos of the key sections of the journey. Most of the journey will be on the 107 road and 1095. We were worried that we would miss a turn or not have GPS signal but after having traveled it, it's really easier said than done. I honestly thing you don't even need GPS because the signage is quite clear. Check out the video for the key turning points.
We also discuss the rest stops and bathroom break locations we stopped by. I highly recommend the 7-11 right at the intersection of where the hwy 1095 and 107 meet. The bathrooms are clean and you also have the option to have lunch at a nice reasonably priced cafe with a view if you have time. I remember the price per dish to be around 3 dollars so it's not expensive. We simply opted for a 7-11 Panini and Rice Burger with Coconut water. You can do that as well.
We also recommend you drop by Tesco hypercenter if you need some supplies or snacks. Mayu got these peanut butter crackers which I was thankful for as route 1095 which is about 2/3rds of the journey, has almost nothing on it asides from a few remote villages. You'll find some street vendors selling fruit etc... but it may not be the best idea as I have no idea how sanitary everything is. We saw only one other 7-11 on 1095 but it was close to the junction and most of stretch will provide you little option for eating or filling up gas. Can't remember any major gas stations which shouldn't be an issue however because a tank is more than enough to last you the whole trip. Just remember to fill up at one of the numerous gas stations you see on 107.
Any other questions about this trip, please fill free to leave them on the comments section.
Thank you for watching this video and please remember to support us by subscribing to our YouTube Channel and like, share, and comment on our videos as it means the world to us to see people are enjoying the videos we dedicate a lot of time to produce.
Stay tuned as I'll try to release vlog 12 which will cover getting a guesthouse in Pai and the Street market, bar, restaurants in Pai in the evening.
