Nuremberg, a city in northern Bavaria, is distinguished by medieval architecture such as the fortifications and stone towers of its Altstadt (Old Town). At the northern edge of the Altstadt, surrounded by red-roofed buildings, stands Kaiserburg Castle. The Hauptmarkt (central square) contains the Schöner Brunnen, the gilded “beautiful fountain” with tiers of figures, and Frauenkirche, a 14th-century Gothic church.
Nuremberg is a city on the river Pegnitz and the Rhine–Main–Danube Canal in the German state of Bavaria, in the administrative region of Middle Franconia, about 170 kilometres (110 mi) north of Munich. Nuremberg is the second-largest city in Bavaria (after Munich), and the largest in Franconia (Franken). Several old villages now belong to the city of Nuremberg , for example Grossgründlach, Kraftshof, Thon, and Neunhof in the north-west; Ziegelstein in the north-east, Altenfurt and Fischbach in the south-east; and Katzwang, Kornburg in the south. Langwasser is a modern suburb.
Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof is a stop for IC and ICE trains on the German long-distance railway network. The Nuremberg–Ingolstadt–Munich high-speed line. The Nuremberg tramway network was opened in 1881. As of 2008, it extended a total length of 36 km (22 mi), had six lines, and carried 39.152 million passengers annually. The first segment of the Nuremberg U-Bahn metro system was opened in 1972. Nuremberg's trams, buses and metro system are operated by the VAG Nürnberg (Verkehrsaktiengesellschaft Nürnberg or Nuremberg Transport Corporation), itself a member of the VGN (Verkehrsverbund Grossraum Nürnberg or Greater Nuremberg Transport Network).
There is also a Nuremberg S-Bahn suburban metro railway and a regional train network, both centred on Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof.

Places to see in ( Nuremberg - Germany ) St Lorenz Church
St. Lorenz is a medieval church of the former free imperial city of Nuremberg in southern Germany. It is dedicated to Saint Lawrence. The church was badly damaged during the Second World War and later restored. It is one of the most prominent churches of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria.
The nave of the church was completed by around 1400. In 1439, work began on the choir in the form of a hall church in the late German Sondergotik style of Gothic architecture. The choir was largely completed by 1477 by Konrad Roriczer, although Jakob Grimm completed the intricate vaults. In the choir one can find the carving of the Angelic Salutation by Veit Stoss, and the monumental tabernacle by Adam Kraft. The latter includes a prominent figure of the sculptor himself.
The building and furnishing of the church was cared of by the city council and by wealthy citizens. This is probably the reason why the art treasures of St. Lawrence were spared during the iconoclasm during the Reformation period. Despite St. Lawrence being one of the first churches in Germany to be Lutheran (1525), the wealthy citizens of Nuremberg wanted to preserve the memory of their ancestors and refused the removal of the donated works of art.
The west facade is richly articulated, reflecting the wealth of the Nuremberg citizens. The facade is dominated by the two towers, mirroring St. Sebald and indirectly Bamberg Cathedral with a sharp towering West portal doorway, and an indented rose window 9 metres in diameter.

--- Quelle: Wikipedia ---

STORYLINE
Celebratory fireworks greeted Germany's win over Turkey in the European Championship semifinals on Wednesday after fans of both teams had watched the nail-biting game side by side in Berlin.
Supporters exchanged chants of Deutschland, Deutschland and Turkiye, Turkiye at an open-air fan festival in the German capital's Kreuzberg district, a stronghold of the city's large Turkish community.
Germany is home to about two point seven (m) million people of Turkish origin, an estimated 500-thousand of whom are German citizens.
But in the end, it was the German supporters who were cheering the loudest after Philipp Lahm scored in the last minute of the match played out in Switzerland's Basel to give his team a 3-2 victory and a place in Sunday's final in Vienna.
AP Television footage showed German fans cheering, waving flags, chanting and holding flares.
One supporter paid tribute to the losing team, saying the Turks were fantastic.
They really defied us, it's a pity. But it was a great game and I am happy Germany reached the final. But it also was a superb match by the Turks, he added.
There were no immediate reports of significant trouble after the match, with Berlin police saying there had been 13 arrests in all, but no major problems.
While the party continued in Germany, the mood was subdued in Turkey.
There were no car horns, cheering fans or celebratory gun fire in Istanbul as the country's largest city fell almost silent after the final whistle at the St. Jakob Park in Basel.
Thousands of supporters had watched the game on a huge TV screen in Taksim square - many clutching national flags and getting ready for what they expected would be an all-night party in the heart of city.
