Tombeaux Saadiens – Saadian Tombs, Marrakech, Morocco
The Saadian tombs (Tombeaux Saadiens) in the kasbah of Marrakech were rediscovered in 1917, having been sealed off for centuries. They were constructed by the sultan Ahmad al-Mansur (1578–1603) as a burial ground for himself and his descendants, and were reached by a door in the neighbouring El-Mansour mosque. Two hundred members of the Saadian dynasty are thought to be buried here.

The beautiful Saadian tombs, which are also known as sepulchers date all the way back to the famous Saadian Dynasty when Morocco was ruled by Sultan Ahmad al-Mansur from 1578 through to 1603.
However, when an Alawite sultan by the name of Moulay Ismail rose to power a few decades after Ahmed al-Mansur’s death in 1603, he gave the orders to wall up the tombs so that the remains of Ahmed al-Mansur and his family could be kept out of sight and out of mind.
It was only in 1917 that the Saadian Tombs were rediscovered; a bit of a chance discovery which occurred while some aerial photography was taking place in the skies above Marrakech. Soon after they were discovered, a French organization, the Beaux-arts service, set about trying to renovate them to their former glory.

EL BADI PALACE & SAADIAN TOMBS - THINGS TO DO IN MARRAKECH
Lots of things to do in Marrakech, one of my fav is visiting the side streets.Today it's El Badi Palace Marrakech vlogs as we visit El Badi Palace as well as other places in Marrakesh. We visit the Saadian Tombs Marrakech before heading to El Badi Palace and it's a nice tourist attraction in Marrakech as well. As you can see there are plenty of things to do in Marrakech and you could spend a week easily seeing different tourist attractions in Marrakech at your own leisure.
I liked El Badi Palace more than Saadian Tombs and if you go to the Saadian Tombs be sure to go early as there is a massive line up to see some of the better parts. So you know, the first part of the Saadian Tombs is just as interesting as the part with the line. The Saadian dynasty can be seen all throughout Marrakech. Also is it called Marrakech or Marrakesh? Im not sure but either way.
Other than that we go to a Marrakech restaurant and have crepes for breakfast. The food in Morocco is one of my favourite things to do and the crepes did not disappoint!
El Badi Palace is quite the spot to see in Marrakech! It was once a place for the king to hold parties and you can imagine how lavish El Badi Palace must have been back in the day. You can imagine the types of parties they used to have there and all that jazz. Later we went to a rooftop Marrakech restaurant for some refreshments and just take in the view. Following that we went on a long long long mission to visit a park but it was closed, ha so we took a taxi back to town and called it a night.
If you're visiting Marrakech and looking to do some tourist attractions aka things to do in Marrakech, I recommend Saadian Tombs and El Badi Palace Marrakech, we enjoyed them.
SAADIAN TOMBS, BAHIA PALACE + MORE | Marrakech, Morocco
We decided to learn a little more about Marrakech's history, so booked a tour and took a visit to the Koutoubia Mosque, Saadian Tombs, the Kasbah, the Bahia Palace and the Musee Tiskiwin.
If you're looking to cover a lot of ground in a short time, I'd definitely recommend checking out one of the tours (our hotel arranged ours, so I'm sure you hotel/riad can give some recommendations also!). We saw so much of Marrakech, and learnt so much!

These #tombs do deserve a visit. They are located outside the #Medina, about 15 minutes walk from the main mosque. The cared plasters and woods are simply beautiful, a jewel worth a stop and several good pictures.

There is a small entrance fee which is definitely worth it as the buildings & #architectural decorations are stunning.
A gorgeous piece of history. Fairly priced, easy to walk in and have a look and some fantastic #architecture.

A WEEK IN MARRAKESH - Exploring the Saadian Tombs, Souks & Jardin Majorelle
After visiting Cape Town, South Africa, we travelled to Marrakesh, Morocco for a full week!
During the week, we explored the Jardin Majorelle, got lost in Marrakesh’s Souks and wandered through the Saadian Tombs.
In between activities throughout the week, we tried many restaurants for lunch and dinner. In this video, we highlight our food experience at Café Clock and La Famille (two of our faves!).

Jardin Majorelle and Saadian Tombs - Day 2 Marrakech
We've been bad and haven't put the time in editing videos, we're trying to figure out the best way to balance all the travel/work/rest day for our one year trip. We've also haven't been blessed with the best internet in the places we've been staying at but alas we got some really good internet for the next couple days!
Today we bring you guys to the Jardin Majorelle which was a garden in Marrakech that was once owned by famous fashion designer Yves Saint-Laurent. It was a very well kept garden with different types of cactus, succulents, and plants. We believe all plants in the Jardin Majorelle are all local Moroccan plants but if not please correct us!
After we visited the Saadian tombs which is a tomb that was build during the Saadian dynasty. It was a very quiet and beautiful place full of intricate tile work. It was also very quiet compared to the chaos just outside its walls. We also saw a man creating custom tiles which was very interesting to see as it was very tedious and time consuming process.
