Safety Harbor, Florida
Safety Harbor, Florida is a jewel of a small town in the midst of one of America's largest metropolitan areas. Indigenous peoples lived in villages around Old Tampa Bay for thousands of years before encountering Spanish explorers in search of gold, and the Fountain of Youth. Safety Harbor may in fact be where the Fountain of Youth can be found. It is the site of several mineral springs thought to have health giving properties, and the location of the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa.

Driving Around: DUNEDIN and SAFETY HARBOR, Florida
Come with me as I take you on a scenic drive through 2 beautiful towns on the Gulf Coast of Florida near Tampa. We begin our exploration in Dunedin at the Dunedin Pier situated near Bon Appetit Restaurant & Bar and overlooking Dunedin Channel. We pass the Olde Bay Cafe & Dunedin Fish Market near Edgewater Park. Heading down Edgewater Drive (Alt 19), we pass beautiful waterfront homes and come to the historic Fenway Hotel. A drive down Main Street takes us past restaurants, shops, and clubs. We drive down Broadway and stop at the Stirling Commons to take a look around the art gallery which is also home to the Penny Lane Beatles Museum. Heading north on Broadway takes us past several microbreweries and over to Honeymoon Beach on the Gulf of Mexico. As night falls, we find ourselves in Safety Harbor which is on Tampa Bay. Holiday decorations adorn John Wilson Park. Driving down lively Main Street we come to the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa.
* from Wikipedia:
DUNEDIN
Dunedin /dəˈniːdɪn/ is a city in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The name comes from Dùn Èideann, the Scottish Gaelic name for Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. Dunedin is the 5th largest city in Pinellas County.
Dunedin is home to several beaches, including Dunedin Causeway, Honeymoon Island, and Caladesi Island State Park, which is consistently rated among the best beaches in the world. Dunedin is one of the few open waterfront communities from Sarasota to Cedar Key where buildings do not completely obscure the view of the Intracoastal Waterway and the Gulf of Mexico beyond; a 1-mile (1.6 km) stretch of Edgewater Drive (also known as Alternate US 19) south of downtown offers views of St. Joseph Sound, Clearwater Beach, and Caladesi Island. Downtown Clearwater and Clearwater Beach are a 6-mile (10 km) drive south on Edgewater.
The downtown business district is notable for its absence of large commercial signage, corporate franchise restaurants or chain retail stores. The Pinellas Trail, a 39-mile-long (63 km) bicycle and pedestrian trail that traverses all of Pinellas County, bisects downtown Dunedin. A large portion of the trail lies on the former roadbed of the Orange Belt Railway, the first railroad in Pinellas County, which arrived in 1888.
Since 1977, Dunedin is the spring training home of the Toronto Blue Jays, as well as the class-A Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League. Dunedin is one of the smallest communities used by Major League spring training teams, although surrounded by a large metropolitan area. Dunedin Stadium is situated next to the Dunedin Public Library a few blocks south of downtown on Douglas Avenue, and is just two blocks east of Edgewater Drive. The stadium was built as a replacement to Grant Field, the Blue Jays' first spring training ball park. The library was founded in 1895 and is the oldest public library in Pinellas County.
Until early 2005, Dunedin was the home of Nielsen Media Research's production operations. The city is home to multiple breweries including Dunedin Brewery, Florida's oldest microbrewery.
SAFETY HARBOR
Safety Harbor is a city on the west shore of Tampa Bay in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. It was incorporated in 1917. Safety Harbor's tree-lined streets and quaint, small-town appearance are unusual in heavily urbanized Pinellas County.
The area has been inhabited since the Stone Age. In June 2008, a 6,000-year-old spearhead was found at Marshall Street Park. The inhabitants of the area at the time of Spanish exploration were the Tocobaga people, who lived in villages around Tampa Bay. The adaptation of this culture relied on wild resources. Safety Harbor sites have yielded pottery, and artifacts of copper, shell, and stone. The Tocobaga were known for constructing various ceremonial and communal mounds to bury the dead. Most of these mounds were destroyed in the early 1900s due to development. However, one of these ceremonial mounds is still visible in Safety Harbor's Phillippe Park. Shells found in these mounds were used to pave city streets.
In 1528 Spanish explorer Pánfilo de Narváez landed in the area, followed by Hernando de Soto in 1539. Safety Harbor (formerly known as Worth's Harbor) was first homesteaded by Count Odet Philippe, a French nobleman who is credited with introducing the grapefruit to Florida in 1823. The name Safety Harbor originated from the early 18th century, when pirates were a substantial influence in the area. Once ships reached this area of the bay, all threats from pirates were gone, and it was commonly referred to as a Safe Harbor.

Who was Odet Philippe?
One of the more colorful figures in Pinellas County's past, Odet was the first permanent, non-native settler on the Pinellas County peninsula, acquiring 160 acres of land in what is today Safety Harbor in 1842. He was a successful businessman who introduced cigar making and citrus to Tampa Bay. His descendents, including the McMullen and Booth families, are among the county's most well known pioneer clans. Philippe was buried in the park -- his former plantation -- in 1869, but the exact location of the grave site is not known.
Safety Harbor, Florida
While returning from a photo studio in Safety Harbour we stopped at the Veterans Memorial Marina Park. There is a Pier to Sea. It is in fact a Bay not a sea. There is the famous Safety Harbor Resort which housed the natural mineral spring. There were many foreign tourists at the pier we met. We were delighted to see the Sting Ray and Manatees(Sea Cow). Local fishermen were catching fishes with their nets. One fisherman who caught an eye catching bounty told he caught the fishes for her neice. We met a puppy named Tia who was very sweet and cute. Om enjoyed with some friends.
Sapcy was very much amused with the beauty of nature. He longed to enjoy more of Florida in the future. This is just a glimpse.

Let's Go Fishing! Saftey Harbor Pier!
Major Wood at Philippe Park Safety Harbor
Massive old trees grow at this beautiful park situated in upper Tampa Bay. Once was a massive community of Native Americans eventually replaced by a large plantation then replaced by a park. I would recommend this park to anyone visiting the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa because it is just a short walk away and it has some amazing history and killer views of tampa bay from high on top of the Old Indian mound. There are playgrounds and Picnic areas under the shade of massive live oak forests. There is also a boat ramp bathrooms and trails to use. Some people come to exercise and some just come to relax either way its always and enjoyable time here.

A quick look at one of Florida's gems nestled on the Tampa Bay. Safety Harbor is one of the largest growing communities on the west coast of Florida.
