Kyoto Kameoka Sagano Romantic Train - 嵯峨野観光鉄道 - 4K Ultra HD : The Sagano Romantic Train, also known as the Sagano Scenic Railway or Sagano Torokko, is a sightseeing train line that runs along the Hozugawa River between Kyoto Arashiyama and Kameoka.
Originally designed to connect the cities of Kyoto and Kameoka, the train now caters exclusively to tourists. Since 1989, passengers can enjoy one of Kyoto’s most gorgeous valleys and rivers, Hozugawa, while riding in a good, old-fashioned rail car, either open or closed. Extremely popular during the autumn foliage season, the Sagano Romantic Train is actually a joy to ride all year long. To make your trip even more fantastic make sure to book in advance your return to Kyoto by boat via Kameoka’s unique and fantastic Hozugawa river boat ride shuttles!

Sagano Romantic Train (嵯峨野観光鉄道） in Arashiyama, Kyoto Prefecture
Sagano Romantic Train operated by Sagano Scenic Railway （嵯峨野観光鉄道） (wholly owned subsidiary of Japan Railways West). This ride from Saga Arashiyama （トロッコ嵯峨駅） to Kameoka （トロッコ亀岡駅） Town (further west of Arashiyama) is deemed as the most scenic ride in the entire Japan.
This track was once used as a backup to another JR line but since it was decommissioned as a regular train traffic, it has been revitalized as a scenic ride for the visitors to Arashiyama （嵐山）. The whole ride goes right next to Hozu River and consists of beautiful views of mountains, gorges, old bridges and of course the foliage.
The stations on this ride are called Torokko （トロッコ）, which means Truck in Japanese because this track was once used by the mining trucks. So the ride goes from Torokko Saga Station (トロッコ嵯峨駅） to Torokko Kameoka Station (トロッコ亀岡駅） via the beautiful Hozu river gorge.
I took this video when I did the ride myself, but since it was crowded (during the fall foliage), there was a lot of pushing and jostling inside the train. I did my best to capture some parts of the ride but trust me, the views were definitely breathtaking.

Taking the Sagano Romantic Train in Kyoto✦ Is it worth it?
The Sagano Romantic Train takes you up to the mountains and the countryside of Kyoto. The Ride is supposed to be very scenic and a very enjoyable ride. The train itself is the old trains with open sides and you can see and feel the nature around as you ride past the river and mountains. Is it worth the 650 yen? come and find out.

Sagano Romantic Train (Torokko Train) | VEDA DAY 2 | Japan Vlog 44 | Lin Nyunt
We rode the Sagano Romantic Train is search of cherry blossoms. This is one of the must do things in Kyoto if you get the chance. The scenery is so beautiful any time of the year but the cherry blossom and autumn leaves seasons are the best.
Check the seat map if you're riding on car 5. Depending on the direction of travel you may not have optimum viewing. If going from Kameoka station, you want seats that are A/B which face forward. Otherwise C/D face backwards like we got. It's opposite if you come from Saga-Arashiyama, which we don't recommend due to the crowds.

From arashiyama to kameoka one way for 2 adults and 2 children will be ¥1800.
Car no 5 is the open view close to the train engine.
I bought the ticket at 9:30 am for the 10:01 train.
Coming back is easy, we took the Jr train back to saga-arashiyama, it’s a 10 minute walk.

Sagano Romantic Train Experience (Sagano Scenic Railway) Kyoto, Japan
Hi guys, this was one of the highlights on our Kyoto Trip, we rode the Sagano Romantic Train in search of cherry blossoms, to enjoy the spring cool and chilly breeze and the sound of cicadas, which is for me one of the best season. It is particularly popular course during autumn foliage season, but still the scenery is beautiful any time of the year.
On the way, the train runs along the Hozugawa River, offering fantastic views of the forests and mountains.

[MUST TRY] The Sagano Romantic Scenic Railway | Kyoto | Japan
The train ride was pleasant. We went during March so the cherry blossoms haven't bloomed yet. I would definitely recommend this train ride if you ever end up in Kyoto during cherry blossom season. The ride is 620 Yen per person, one way.
