The Municipal Theatre of Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Saigon Opera House, is an opera house in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It is an example of French Colonial architecture in Vietna
The gleaming white municipal theater, which is home the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet and Symphony Orchestra, was built in 1897. Its well-lit façade casts a brilliant glow on nearby city streets. Visitors can file into the 1,800 seat theater to catch regular dress rehearsals, or buy a ticket for one of the weekly cultural shows the theater is known for.

A O Show at Saigon Opera House - Ho Chi Minh City
A O Show is a new kind of art performance commonly acknowledged globally as new circus. The word “amazed” does not even begin to describe it the moment the audience see themselves walking on a small walkway of the sweet and breezy Southern Vietnam, wondering pass the surging dunes of the Southern Central only to find themselves ended up in front of a lotus swamp.

Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), the Largest City in Vietnam
Ho Chi Minh City, formerly named Saigon is the largest city in Vietnam. The city center is situated on the banks of the Saigon River, 60 kilometers from the South China Sea and 1,760 kilometers south of Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. The metropolitan area is populated by more than 9,000,000 people, making it the most populous metropolitan area in Vietnam and the countries of the former French Indochina.
The city was once an important Khmer sea port prior to annexation by the Vietnamese in the 17th century. Conquered by France in 1859, the city was influenced by the French during their colonial occupation of Vietnam, and a number of classical Western-style buildings and French villas in the city reflect this.
Under the name Saigon, it was the capital of the independent state of South Vietnam from 1955-75. In 1976, Saigon merged with the surrounding province and was officially renamed Ho Chi Minh City, after the pre-eminent but by-then deceased North Vietnamese leader. However the old Saigon name is still used by both Vietnamese and foreigners, especially when referring to the most central part of the city to which most tourists flock.
Today, the city's core is still adorned with wide elegant boulevards and historic French colonial buildings. The most prominent structures in the city center are Reunification Palace, City Hall, the Municipal Theatre and Notre-Dame Cathedral. Some of the historic hotels are the Hotel Majestic, dating from the French colonial era, and the Rex and Caravelle hotels are former hangouts for American officers and war correspondents in the 1960s/70s. The city has various museums, such as the Ho Chi Minh City Museum or the Museum of Vietnamese History.

The Opera House in Ho Chi Minh City by City Pass Guide
City Pass Guide is proud to bring to you beautiful intro videos of the most iconic attractions around Vietnam.
THE OPERA HOUSE
One of Ho Chi Minh City's most prominent landmarks, the Saigon Opera House was custom built in 1897 by French architect Eugene Ferret. In 1955 it was transformed into South Vietnam's Assembly House and has undergone several refurbishments since. It is only open to the public during events. Tickets are available on location in District 1, Saigon.
Great photo opportunities await travellers who seek out the Saigon Opera House as the building is a fine example of French colonial architecture. Take a seat in the faade and watch the action of Saigon whiz by. The Opera House is surrounded by a wide, tree-lined boulevard and you may need to remind yourself that you are in Ho Chi Minh City, not Paris. The Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera performs here.
