Kennedy, who is chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, was diagnosed with a malignant glioma in his brain after collapsing in Hyannisport last May.
He went on a radiation and chemotherapy regimen after having surgery at Duke University Medical Center in June and has been working, mainly behind the scenes, to pass health care reform legislation.
A Washington, D.C., publication, The Hill, reported yesterday that Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Kennedy's brain cancer is in remission and he would return to the Senate full time in early June.
But that report was denied by Kennedy's office in a statement later yesterday.
A Boston staffer who did not wish to be named told the Times the senator continues to balance a treatment regimen with work, adding that his schedule is determined on a day-to-day basis.

STORYLINE:
Fresh from his hospitalisation for an aggressive surgery on a cancerous brain tumour, US Senator Edward M Kennedy announced it was good to be home at his family's Massachusetts compound on Monday and headed out for a sail.
Kennedy left the Duke University Medical Centre in Durham, North Carolina, on Monday morning and arrived at his family's Hyannis Port compound on Cape Code just before noon.
Within hours, he went out sailing with his wife, Vicki.
It was the same homecoming routine he followed last month when he was released from a Boston hospital after being diagnosed with a malignant glioma, a lethal type of brain tumour.
A malignant glioma is one of the worst kinds of brain cancer, and malignant gliomas are diagnosed in about 9,000 Americans a year.
Kennedy, 76, underwent the risky, 3 1/2-hour surgery last Monday to remove as much of the tumour as possible, a procedure aimed at improving the success of chemotherapy and radiation.
His surgeon at Duke, Dr. Allan Friedman, said Monday that Kennedy is making an excellent recovery.
Kennedy's son, Representative Patrick Kennedy, said he planned to have dinner with his father on Monday night.
Patrick Kennedy told the Providence Journal on Sunday that his father was looking forward to returning to the Senate and working with Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama on universal health care legislation should the Illinois senator win the White House.
Kennedy told the newspaper that his father wanted to begin writing the legislation this year so it would be ready if Obama was victorious.
Kennedy's family and doctors have released few details about the particular type of tumour, which plays a key role in determining his survival odds.
Some cancer specialists have said Kennedy appears to have a glioblastoma multiforme - a serious and tough-to-remove type of tumour - because other kinds are more common in younger people.
Doctors familiar with the type of surgery have said it almost never leads to a cure, but radiation or chemotherapy treatments have a better chance of success because there's less tumour to fight.

Sen. Edward Moore Ted Kennedy needs your prayers
Please write a prayer to wish him and his family the best in this trying time. All people should care, no matter if you are black, white, brown, republican or democrat. He is a beautiful human being. God will bless you.
BOSTON, Massachusetts (CNN) -- U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy has a malignant brain tumor, doctors treating him at Massachusetts General Hospital said Tuesday.
Kennedy, 76, was hospitalized Saturday morning after suffering a seizure at his family's compound at Hyannisport, Massachusetts.
Preliminary results from a biopsy of the brain identified the cause of the seizure as a malignant glioma in the left parietal lobe, according to a hospital statement.
Malignant glioma is the most common primary brain tumor, accounting for more than half of the 18,000 primary malignant brain tumors diagnosed each year in the United States, according to the National Cancer Institute.
A tumor in that area of the brain could affect Kennedy's ability to speak and understand speech, as well as the strength on the right side of his body, CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta said.

Dem. Senate candidate Chris Murphy, Ted Kennedy Jr. & Rosa DeLauro stump in New Haven - Nov. 2, 2012
U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy, D-5, told a crowd of 29th Ward seniors in New Haven on Nov. 2, 2012 that he can't match GOP candidate Linda McMahon's money or array of commercials, but I can tell you, I'm going to fight with every bone in my body...if they try to privatize Medicare and Social Security. Murphy, locked in a neck-and-neck senate race, got a little help on the campaign trail Friday from U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-3, and Ted Kennedy Jr., son of the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass.
They all also made the case for Democratic President Barack Obama.

SUMMARY
=======
The Kennedy Compound consists of three houses on six acres (24,000 m²) of waterfront property on Cape Cod along Nantucket Sound in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, United States. It was once the home of American businessman and political figure Joseph P. Kennedy, his wife Rose, and two of their sons, President John F. Kennedy and Senator Robert F. Kennedy. Their youngest son, Senator Ted Kennedy, lived in his parents' house, and it was his main residence from 1982 until he died of brain cancer at the compound in August 2009.President Kennedy used the compound as a base for his successful 1960 U.S. presidential campaign and later as a summer White House and presidential retreat until his assassination in November 1963. In 2012, the main house was donated to the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate.
September 7, 1960 - Senator John F. Kennedy's Remarks at Multnomah Hotel, Portland, Oregon
''I think it can be said that the labor movement has concerned itself not only with the interest of its members, but also with the general public interest. Labor has identified itself with the fight for aid for education, with the fight for medical care for the aged under social security, with the fight for housing, the fight for a better system of social justice in this country, and for a stronger foreign policy abroad. They have been concerned with what concerns our country. Therefore I am delighted that I have received the endorsement of the AFL-CIO in this election.
I have had my disagreements with Mr. Hoffa and they continue, and I have had my disagreements with Mr. Bridges and they continue. But I want the support, if I can get it, of the members of the Teamsters Union and the Longshoremen's Union, because I believe that the things we can work for in the Congress are in the interest of the members of those unions, even though I may not agree with those that head it up. My quarrel with them may continue. But I want to make it very clear that I welcome the support of the members of those two unions.
I run for office with the recognition that in this century the great Presidents in many cases have been Democratic Presidents, Wilson, Roosevelt, and Truman, and I think they have demonstrated what can be done, and I think we can do it in the 1960's. Thank you. ''

Coast Guard Cutter Blackthorn 31st Anniversary memorial ceremony
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Coast Guardsmen, survivors, family members, and community members from around the Tampa Bay area commemorated the 31st anniversary of the Coast Guard Cutter Blackthorn tragedy, Friday, at Blackthorn Memorial Park, in St. Petersburg.
The Blackthorn sank after colliding with the tanker Capricorn near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge on Jan 28, 1980. Twenty-three of the Blackthorn's 50 crewmembers lost their lives during the Coast Guard's worst peacetime disaster. A memorial inscribed with the names of the crewmembers that perished now stands two miles north of the accident site.
Friday's ceremony consisted of an aerial salute by Coast Guard aircraft, remarks by Coast Guard Rear Adm. William D. Baumgartner, commander Seventh Coast Guard District, posting of the Colors, and reading of the lost crewmembers' names, each commemorated by the placing of a rose beneath the memorial.
The Blackthorn tragedy provided the impetus for the establishment of the Command and Operations School at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn. The school offers courses to prepare command-level officers and senior enlisted members for command duty afloat. Commanding officers are now required to formally assess risks such as transiting an unfamiliar port at night and are given full discretion and encouraged to say no if they feel the risks involved are unnecessary. Additionally, the Coast Guard developed new training requirements, spent more money on safety equipment and made changes to the navigational aids in and around Tampa Bay.
