St. George Lighthouse - St. George Island, FL.
19 Jan. 2015
St. George Lighthouse is one of the four prominent lighthouses along Florida's Forgotten Coast situated on St. George Island which is reached by traveling over a very long bridge (Route 300) and accessed just east of the Appalatchicola Bridge of Hwy 98. It has a fairly large museum and gift shop and costs a few bucks to climb to the top. Great view of the island from up there.
St George Island Lighthouse
St George Island Lighthouse is a great place to visit if you are in the area! It is known as A Historic Treasure on Florida's Forgotten Coast.
The original Lighthouse was built in 1833 then it was rebuilt in 1848 and 1852 until the Light finally was destroyed due to beach erosion and pounding waves.
On Monday, December 1, 2008 the new reconstructed Lighthouse was opened to the public.

St. George Island Lighthouse (Florida 2019)
St. George Island Lighthouse. Located at 2B, E Gulf Beach Dr, Eastpoint, FL 32328. 92 steps to the top.
On October 21, 2005, the Cape St. George Light collapsed into the Gulf of Mexico. On December 1, 2008, the reconstructed lighthouse was opened to the public. First built in 1833 and rebuilt in 1848 and 1852 on what is now Little St. George Island, the Light finally succumbed to beach erosion and pounding waves. Working with state and federal government support, the St. George Lighthouse Association spearheaded the effort to salvage the pieces of the Light. Volunteers cleaned the mortar off thousands of the old bricks. The original plans were obtained from the National Archives in Washington, D.C. and the lighthouse was reconstructed on St. George Island, using as much of the original materials as possible.
Construction of a replica of the original keeper’s house was begun next to the lighthouse in the fall of 2009. The two story brick building was opened in the summer of 2011 and houses a museum which tells the story of the lighthouse and its keepers and a gift shop that offers visitors the opportunity to take home a memento of their visit to the historic lighthouse.

Visited St George Island Lighthouse in our Class B RV
St George Island Lighthouse in our Class B RV
We visited St George Island Lighthouse in Florida on a cloudy day in February 2018. The State park on St George Island was full so we had to move on. I could not climb the lighthouse since it was closing time when we arrived.
St George Island is an island 8 miles offshore of Apalachicola Florida. It is in the Gulf of Mexico.
In 2005 the lighthouse collapsed into the Gulf Of Mexico. The Cape St Georgie Lighthouse was reconstructed in 2008. On December 1, 2008 it was opened to the public.
Wish we could have been there on a Sunny day.
Please give us a thumbs up.
Thanks for watching

S2 - E9: St George Island State Park, Florida
One of the things I like about camping in Florida are the state parks, especially the ones on islands, they are among the most beautiful with great beaches. St. George Island State Park is no exception. We nearly had the beach to ourselves in early December. Some of the best sand in the country.

We are Steve and Lucy traveling around North America in an RV. After spending the past 35 years traveling the world on someone else dime, we decided it was time to get off the airplanes, out of the hotel rooms, slow down and see America. These videos document that journey. :

Real Life Pirate Ship - Nao Victoria - Saint Augustine - Matts Rad Show
Victoria (or Nao Victoria, as well as Vittoria) was a Spanish carrack and the first ship to successfully circumnavigate the world. The Victoria was part of a Spanish expedition commanded by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, and after his death during the voyage, by Juan Sebastián Elcano. The expedition began with five ships but the Victoria was the only ship to complete the voyage. Magellan was killed in the Philippines. The ship was built at a shipyard in Gipuzkoa, with the Basques being reputed shipbuilders at the time, and along with the four other ships, it was given to Magellan by King Charles I of Spain. Victoria was named after the church of Santa Maria de la Victoria de Triana, where Magellan took an oath of allegiance to Charles V in order to be granted full access to the Spice Islands. Victoria was an 85 ton ship with a crew of 42.
The four other ships were Trinidad
San Antonio
Concepcion
Santiago
Trinidad, Magellan's flagship,
Victoria was rated a carrack or nao (ship), as were all the others except Trinidad, which was a caravel.
