BOEING 747 low LANDING above THE BEACH - St Maarten and Maho Beach (4K)
Boeing 747 low landings at St Maarten - Those were the days. KLM used to operate at least three weekly Boeing 747 flights from Amsterdam to St Maarten and sadly they stopped operating these flights cause the Airbus A330-200 is much more efficient on this particular route. It was a very sad moment for all aviation enthusiasts around the world when KLM officially announced the end of the Boeing 747 operations at Saint Maarten. Another Boeing 747 operator which frequently passed Maho Beach used to be Corsair but they also replaced the Boeing 747 with an Airbus A330-200 in their Orly flights. Currently even Air France reduced the flights for Paris from an Airbus A340 to an Airbus A330.
Doesn` t change the fact that Maho Beach is on of the most amazing beaches in the world if you are interested in aviation. It` s definitly the biggest tourist attraction on the island and I am pretty sure we will return to this beautiful island one day.

SSL 205 ~ Devastation of HURRICANE IRMA in St Martin & British Virgin Islands
HURRICANE IRMA is definitely taking her toll and destroying everything in her path. This update features some of the first aerials and images I was able to find on social media of the affected areas, including Tortola in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), and many areas of St Martin shot just after Hurricane IRMA.
The storm is still spinning as a huge category 5 hurricane with 180mph winds at the eye... current forecast has her heading straight for Florida next, so anything you can do to get out of her way is extremely advisable!

Bengali: সেন্ট মার্টিন্স দ্বীপ) is a small island (area only 8 km2) in the northeastern part of the Bay of Bengal, about 9 km south of the tip of the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf peninsula, and forming the southernmost part of Bangladesh. There is a small adjoining island that is separated at high tide, called Chera Dwip. It is about 8 kilometres (5 miles) west of the northwest coast of Myanmar, at the mouth of the Naf River. The first settlement started 250 years ago by Arabian sailors who named the island 'Jazeera'. During British occupation the island was named St. Martin Island. During the First Anglo-Burmese War between the British and Burmese empires in 1824–1826, rival claims to the island were a major factor. The local names of the island are Narikel jinjira[3] which means 'Coconut Island' in Bengali, and Daruchini Dwip which means Cinnamon island in Bengali. It is the only coral island in Bangladesh.It is also the southernmost part among Extreme Points of Bangladesh

St Maarten, SXM - Mariner DRONE SUNSET SHOTS overlooking Simpson Bay in St Martin, CARIBBEAN!
Was a beautiful St Maarten afternoon in the CARIBBEAN at our friends Rodger & Corinne from Paradise Found Realty in Saint Martin, SXM.. we joined them for a poolside barbeque, and of course a swim! Was a perfect day so we decided to take our new MARINER waterproof drone up for a shot and flew up over the mountain to capture views of Simpson Bay Lagoon on the other side... VERY COOL!! Set to the song The Whole 9-Yards by our friend Eric Stone, I'm sure you'll enjoy a couple minutes of cool views! :)

British Anguillians are desperate for help and have complained that they have not received as much aid as their French neighbor island of St. Martin. But the toll on St. Martin has been more devastating as the island was hit by extreme winds and a sea surge. Alex Thomson of Independent Television News reports on the damage and the contrasting responses the islands have received.

1. St. Martin is the smallest island in the world divided between two countries, France and the Netherlands. The northern French part of the island is known as St. Martin and is an overseas collectivity of France. The land mass of St. Martin is split roughly 60/40 with the larger French side covering about 20 square miles. There is no physical border between the two countries.
2. In 1493, explorer Christopher Columbus embarked on his second voyage to the New World on behalf of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella I of Spain. At Columbus' time, St. Martin was populated, if at all, by Carib amerindians. The Caribs' territory was not completely conquered until the mid-17th century when most of them perished in the struggle between the French, British, Dutch, Danes and Spanish for control of the West Indies islands around the Caribbean Sea. A massive influx of African slaves took place in the 18th century with the development of sugarcane plantations by the French and Dutch. On some of their territories the British imported Chinese and South Asians to take the place of slaves. Thus, St. Martin and the other islands are populated by a mixture of Amerindian, European, African, Indian and Asian peoples.
3. The division of the island between the Netherlands and France dates to March 23, 1648, under the Treaty of Concordia. Local folklore indicates that the division of land began with walking contest between a Frenchman and a Dutchman. Before they started, the Frenchman drank wine while the Dutchman drank the stronger jenever (Dutch gin), allowing the Frenchman to cover more territory and claim more land.
4. Marigot is the capital of the French side of Saint Martin.
5. Pic Paradis is the highest point (424m) on the island and affords a breathtaking view of the island. You can head to Loterie Farm where you can pick up a map or schedule a private, guided tour and hike your way to the top. The hike takes about 1.5 hours, after which you can relax by their beautiful spring-fed pool. If you’re lucky you might even catch a glimpse of the green monkeys that live in the forest there!
6. St.Maarten – St.Martin is 37 square miles of tropical paradise, and it also boasts 37 beaches! St. Martin's Dutch side is known for its festive nightlife, beaches, jewellery, drinks made with native rum-based guavaberry liquors, and casinos. The island's French side is known for its nude beaches, clothes, shopping (including outdoor markets), and French and Indian Caribbean cuisine. Shopping on St Maarten and Saint Martin offers duty-free goods in numerous boutiques. Most often the designer goods are offered at significant discounts, often up to 40% lower than EU retail prices.
7. The island is served by many major airlines that daily bring in large jet aircraft, including Boeing 747s and Airbus A340s carrying tourists from across the world. The short main runway at Princess Juliana International Airport, and its position between a large hill and a beach, causes some spectacular approaches. Aviation photographers flock to the airport to capture pictures of large jets just a few metres above sunbathers on Maho Beach. There is a small airport on the French side of the island at Grand Case, L'Espérance Airport for small aircraft serving neighbouring Caribbean islands.
