I overcome my reptile phobia, but get bitten by a deer. We discover a shared passion for Family Mart snacks, and Clayton wins over most of Osaka on our big Tuesday night out... (We also cosplayed! Osaka's Flamethrower Street Food Chef ★ ONLY in JAPAN
When a sushi chef meets a flamethrower, it creates the hottest street food restaurant in Osaka!
There's a chef who has been cooking by flamethrower for over 25 years and the food ー is gourmet quality delicious!
In this episode, I travel to Izakaya Toyo (居酒屋とよ) to experience Osaka's hottest street food. Now you can see Toyoji-san on Netflix STREET FOOD Chef’s Table series.
Toyoji-san opened his street side izakaya on the site of a parking lot in 1992, and today it's one of Osaka's most notable sushi stops. With a flamethrower, Toyoji-san can grill up a lot of maguro cheek meat for dozens of hungry customers in minutes, and the fire attracts an audience! The chef is a real entertainer and the food is outstanding, but it's the reasonable prices that keeps regular customers coming back for years.
Eating flamethrower cuisine is amazing! The outside is cooked well and the inside remains moist and juicy. Toyoji-san's secret is to balance the hot with the cold. He has a bucket of ice water next to the grill. He periodically dips his hand into the ice water to balance the temperature and allows him to amazingly cook barehanded with the flamethrower!
Where is Izakaya Toyo?
Station: Kyobashi (Osaka)
Open 4 days a week from 14:00 to 22:00.
Closed Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays
Featured in this episode:
★ Uni | Sea Urchin
★ Ikura | Salmon Fish Eggs
★ Grilled Maguro Cheek Meat
★ Unagi | Eel
★ Umi Budo | Sea Grapes

Juso Neighborhood, Osaka
Juso neighborhood or Juso District is an area in the north central part of Osaka. It is a small but vibrant district with the downtown area near the Hankyu Railway Juso Station is the most lively part of it. Juso in a way a microcosm of the overall unique Osaka culture with lot of shopping arcades, eating/entertainment/drinking establishments.
According to wikipedia, Juso is also where some scenes of movie Black Rain were shot and also where famous Hollywood actor Steven Seagal lived and owned a Aikido Martial Arts studio. He was the first foreigner to do so in Japan. Enjoy!!!

मत देना इसके सवालो का जवाब | Real horror story of Kuchisake Onna in Hindi
मत देना इसके सवालो का जवाब | Real horror story of Kuchisake Onna in Hindi
She is a woman who was mutilated by her husband, and returns as a malicious spirit. When rumors of alleged sightings began spreading in 1979 around the Nagasaki Prefecture, it spread throughout Japan and caused panic in many towns. There are even reports of schools allowing children to go home only in groups, escorted by teachers for safety, and of police increasing their patrols. Recent sightings include many reports in South Korea in 2004 about a woman wearing a red mask, who was frequently seen chasing children, and in October 2007, a coroner found some old records from the late 1970s about a woman who was chasing little children. She was then hit by a car, and died shortly after. Her mouth was ripped from ear to ear.
Although some stories describe her as a former patient of a mental asylum, a more common story describes that in the Heian period, her husband found out that she was having an affair with another samurai. He used a sword to cut her mouth from ear to ear and asked, Who will think you are beautiful now?

Japanese Knife & Sword City: Seki Experience ★ ONLY in JAPAN
Traveling for KNIVES and SWORDS! The Japanese knife is quite simply the best in the world. The place best known for them is Seki (関市) in Gifu where Japanese Samurai swords have been forged for over 700 years. That tradition continues today in its knives and cutlery. They're perfect.
Following World War 2, the city changed from forging the katana to producing some of the world's best knives and cutlery. So, I ended up at Seki Station recently -- to buy the best knife in Japan! Maybe even a samurai sword, too.
In this episode, John travels to Seki city in Gifu prefecture to check out the CUTLERY FESTIVAL known as the HAMONO MATSURI (刃物まつり) in Japan. Now only will you find over 43 knife makers selling their best at discounted prices, you'll see the most unique knives anywhere as well as Chanbara performances (Samurai Sword Fight Acting).
The most unique part of the Hamono Festuval is an authentic demonstration of traditional sword forging using Tamahagane Steel.
HOW MUCH IS A REAL SAMURAI SWORD?
They start at 400,000 to 600,000 Yen ($4,000 to $6000) and can go up to $20,000! We'll see swords being made in Seki.
HOW TO BUY A JAPANESE KNIFE:
There many things to consider such as the type of steel, the type of knife, it's balance and of course, it's price.
WHEN IS SEKI'S HAMONO CUTLERY FESTIVAL ( 刃物まつり ) ?
2019 October 12th and 13th (Saturday & Sunday)
URL: (English available)
* It takes place on the second weekend of October annually.
The knife I bought:
Mcusta ZANMAI Classic Pro Damascus Flame
Santoku 180mm ¥15,000 Festival Price
Hida Beef (Hida Gyu 飛騨牛) is one of Japan's top wagyu beef and worth trying in Gifu or the Nagoya area.
HOW TO GET TO SEKI:
Best is to rent a car. It's easiest to get around this way because trains don't leave often in the countryside and many places like Monet's Pond can be accessed only by infrequent buses.
By Train, it's a short and scenic ride from Nagoya Station or Gifu Station.

THANK YOU!

What is Damascus Steel?
Mr. Walter Sorrells made an excellent video on YouTube explaining it. I also learned more about knife making from his channel.

Japanese Food & Sake in Setouchi
Setouchi is famous for being the home of Kobe Beef, but that is just the beginning of the amazing food in this culinary region of Japan! Have you heard of potentially deadly fugu, or blowfish? Well, here is the place to try it in Yamaguchi. Like noodles? Setouchi has so many different types that originated here. I loved the green tea flavored Kawara Soba from the Yamaguchi prefecture as well as the handmade soba noodles from the Iya Valley.
And who doesn't love udon! We learned how to make this Japanese staple at the Nakano Udon School. I really enjoyed another style of udon too - Shinshoji Udo -- which is thicker and served with special toppings. This is typically eaten by Japanese monks!
For an exquisite meal, try a Kaiseki, or tasting menu. Our 4 hour Kaiseki at the Ryokan Kurashiki was one of the most special food experiences I've EVER HAD. Each course was exciting, unique and delicious.
Setouchi is also known for being the home to sake! We headed to Nada to learn about the history of this cultural drink and to sample different varieties at the Kiku Masamune Brewery.
And these are just SOME of the highlights. There were so many more tasty snacks, tempura, noodles, sushi and more that we loved throughout this region. Are you hungry yet? You will be after this video!

Sake Noana 酒の穴 is a sake bar and great budget Japanese restaurant in Ginza, Tokyo. My wife and I had just landed in Tokyo, and we really had no plans for where to eat lunch, so we took a walk outside our hotel, and we found this place just by chance.
It turned out to be an excellent little basement restaurant, and although it’s known to be a Japanese sake bar, they also have some amazing lunch specials, which I thought were a very good deal for Tokyo.
