Salem Civic Center Virginia 2009
The Salem Civic Center was built in 1967 and to this day it is still one of the most flexible and useful civic facilities in Virginia. The complex has the ability to host anywhere from 7 to 7000 people on the same night thanks its experienced staff, award winning catering and over 4000 free parking spaces. Everyone from Bill Cosby to Kenny Chesney to Def Leppard has performed on the arena's stage.
The Salem Civic Center's also plays host to the largest free gate fair in the United States each July.

Description: A regionally based agricultural fair in the western part of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Salem Fair is the largest fair in the state and has been recognized as one of the top 100 fairs and expositions in the country. Admission: The Salem Fair does not charge the public a gate or admission fee for this event. Parking on the grounds is also free of charge. No pets are allowed. Attendance: Estimated in excess of 350,000. The Salem Fair is located in the heart of the Roanoke Valley on the grounds of the Salem Civic Center Complex. It is accessible north and south via Interstate 81 and east and west via U. S. Route 460.

Transforming the Salem Civic Center for the Rodeo
For nearly 50 years the Salem Civic Center has been welcoming the Rodeo to town. Transforming the arena from a concert or basketball setting is no small feat to set-up or clean-up. Here's a time lapse look at how 600 tons of dirt enters the building in just a few hours with the help of the City of Salem's Street Department workers.

Salem Civic Center Semifinals Friday
This is a time-lapse video of the Salem Civic Center for the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Tournament semifinals on March 20, 2015. The arena hosted Augustana versus Babson in the first semifinal followed by UW-Stevens Point versus Virginia Wesleyan in the second.
The set-up in the foreground is the Hoopsville Courtside set which we have used for each of the tournament weekends in Salem, Virginia the last three years.

This year's fair runs from July 1 through July 11 and is expected to attract 300,000 patrons to its 14 acre midway.
