He Is The Mayor of Memories - Frantz Betschart - Hatteberg's People TV
On Hatteberg's People, in Southwest Kansas near Ashland, a town sits, but no one is home. It was Acres, Kansas and now it belongs to a cattleman Frantz Betschart. For him, the town is a museum that just couldn't be saved.
(Music)
Oh I love it out here. It's just a part of me.....history.
There is not much left of Acres, Kansas. On the main street, which isn't, Frantz Betschart knows it well. He owns the town.
It's just a place in the middle of nowhere.
This is the Acres School house where all my dad's brothers and sisters went to school here.
(Music)
I really don't know why I like the place so much but I do. I just hate to see it fall apart and be destroyed. To me, it's sad. It's kind of like a death, it's like the country is drying up and dying away. Those people, they are gone and they won't be back.
(Music)
This used to be the general store, I suppose it would be like a Quick Shop today, because they had everything in there.
It's just part of history and part of me....you stand here and look at that thing and it makes you want to imagine what kind of stuff they had on their shelves back then.
You also want to imagine the view to the east of Acres Main Street. A 1910 Census showed 30 people lived here. But that was a hundred years ago.
I can remember as a kid, bringing wheat and dumping it into this elevator.
It's part of you and it just disappears, it's just gone forever.
Now there is just one unoccupied house and some tumbleweeds.
This particular building here was the acres post office.
It's no longer first class, its disease is time, and for that, there is no cure.
Out here on the side of the road, I'd like to put up two signs that say, 'Acres, Kansas next two exit's'.
Just a ghost town.
It's about gone.

SUMMARY
=======
William Henry Harrison Sr. (February 9, 1773 – April 4, 1841) was an American military officer, politician, and the ninth President of the United States. He died of pneumonia thirty-one days into his term, thereby serving the shortest tenure in United States presidential history. Because he was the first president to die in office, his death sparked a constitutional crisis and questions and debates about the presidential line of succession.
Harrison was a son of Benjamin Harrison V, one of the Founding Fathers and the paternal grandfather of Benjamin Harrison, the 23rd President of the United States (1889–1893). He was the last president born as a British royal subject in the original Thirteen Colonies before the American Revolution started in 1775.
Harrison was the first member elected to the United States House of Representatives from the Northwest Territory, and later was the first Governor of the Indiana Territory. He famously led U.S. military and state militia forces against Native Americans at the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811, where he earned the nickname Old Tippecanoe. He was promoted to major general in the regular United States Army in the subsequent War of 1812 (1812-1815), and served in the Battle of the Thames in Canada the following year. After the war, Harrison moved to Ohio, where he was elected again to the House of Representatives. In 1824, the state legislature elected him to the United States Senate; his term was truncated by his appointment as Minister Plenipotentiary to Gran Colombia in May 1828.
Harrison returned to private life in Ohio until 1836, when he was nominated for the presidency as the Whig Party candidate in the election of that year; he was defeated by Democratic Vice President Martin Van Buren. In 1840, the Party nominated Harrison again, with John Tyler as his running mate. Harrison and Tyler, known famously as “Tippecanoe and Tyler Too”, defeated Van Buren in the 1840 election. Harrison was the oldest person to be president until Ronald Reagan in 1981 and later Donald Trump in 2017. Harrison died of pneumonia a month after taking office, and Tyler assumed the presidency, setting a major precedent in succession. Due to Harrison's brief time in office, scholars and historians often forgo listing this president in historical rankings.

SUMMARY
=======
German Americans (German: Deutschamerikaner) are Americans who have full or partial German ancestry. With an estimated size of approximately 44 million in 2016, German Americans are the largest of the self-reported ancestry groups by the US Census Bureau in its American Community Survey. German-Americans account for about one third of the total ethnic German population in the world.None of the German states had American colonies. In the 1670s, the first significant groups of German immigrants arrived in the British colonies, settling primarily in Pennsylvania, New York, and Virginia. Immigration continued in very large numbers during the 19th century, with eight million arrivals from Germany. Between 1820 and 1870 over seven and a half million German immigrants came to the United States. By 2010, their population grew to 49.8 million German Americans, reflecting a jump of 6 million people since 2000.
There is a German belt that extends all the way across the United States, from eastern Pennsylvania to the Oregon coast. Pennsylvania has the largest population of German-Americans in the U.S. and is home to one of the group's original settlements, Germantown (Philadelphia), founded in 1683 and the birthplace of the American antislavery movement in 1688, as well as the revolutionary Battle of Germantown. The state of Pennsylvania has 3.5 million people of German ancestry.
They were pulled by the attractions of land and religious freedom, and pushed out of Germany by shortages of land and religious or political oppression. Many arrived seeking religious or political freedom, others for economic opportunities greater than those in Europe, and others for the chance to start fresh in the New World. The arrivals before 1850 were mostly farmers who sought out the most productive land, where their intensive farming techniques would pay off. After 1840, many came to cities, where Germania—German-speaking districts—soon emerged.German Americans established the first kindergartens in the United States, introduced the Christmas tree tradition, and introduced popular foods such as hot dogs and hamburgers to America.The great majority of people with some German ancestry have become Am ...
