Haight-Ashbury San Francisco-California History
#DoMoreLife #Travel #California
Haight-Ashbury San Francisco is one of the, historically richest neighborhoods in the Bay area. Haight-Ashbury neighborhood in San Francisco was the birthplace of the 1960's counter cultural movement. The Haight-Ashbury neighborhood tends to draw in an upbeat, diverse crowd, which looks to enjoy the legendary hippie vibes that were profound in this area during the counterculture movement of the 1960's. The neighborhood borders Golden gate Park. In addition to the rich history, there are many, well-preserved Victorian Style homes in this area. The Grateful Dead house is included in these Victorian homes.
This neighborhood is also famous for the 1967 Summer of love. The subculture in the area became so popular that TIME Magazine did a cover story on the hippies in the area! One of my favorite artists, Janis Joplin also lived in the Haight-Ashbury area of San Francisco. This is a place rich in the cultural history of America. Thanks to Richard for giving us this brief history lesson, and beautiful travel vlog.

Castro Tour San Francisco
Watch me Cruise the Castro, I walk down San Francisco's most fun street. Located in the Castro District, Castro street is where all the gay nightlife in centered. Interesting bars, clubs and shops abound here. This Gayborhoood is arguably the epicenter of gay life in America. I cruise and tour my way around and talk about my love of this place. Victorian architecture and hot guys, what's not to like?

San Francisco California tour. United States (1999), cable car
San Francisco (/sæn frənˈsɪskoʊ/), officially the City and County of San Francisco, is the cultural, commercial, and financial center of Northern California and the only consolidated city-county in California.[24] San Francisco encompasses a land area of about 46.9 square miles (121 km2)[25] on the northern end of the San Francisco Peninsula, which makes it the smallest county in the state. It has a density of about 18,187 people per square mile (7,022 people per km2), making it the most densely settled large city (population greater than 200,000) in the state of California and the second-most densely populated major city in the United States after New York City.[26] San Francisco is the fourth-most populous city in California, after Los Angeles, San Diego and San Jose, and the 14th-most populous city in the United States—with a Census-estimated 2014 population of 852,469.[21] The city and its surrounding areas are known as the San Francisco Bay Area, which is a part of the larger OMB designated San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland combined statistical area, the fifth most populous in the nation with an estimated population of 8.6 million.
San Francisco (Spanish for Saint Francis) was founded on June 29, 1776, when colonists from Spain established Presidio of San Francisco at the Golden Gate and Mission San Francisco de Asís named for St. Francis of Assisi a few miles away.[9] The California Gold Rush of 1849 brought rapid growth, making it the largest city on the West Coast at the time. San Francisco became a consolidated city-county in 1856.[27] After three-quarters of the city was destroyed by the 1906 earthquake and fire,[28] San Francisco was quickly rebuilt, hosting the Panama-Pacific International Exposition nine years later. In World War II, San Francisco was the port of embarkation for service members shipping out to the Pacific Theater.[29] After the war, the confluence of returning servicemen, massive immigration, liberalizing attitudes, along with the rise of the hippie counterculture, the Sexual Revolution, the Peace Movement growing from opposition to United States involvement in the Vietnam War, and other factors led to the Summer of Love and the gay rights movement, cementing San Francisco as a center of liberal activism in the United States. Politically, the city votes strongly along liberal Democratic Party lines.

San Francisco - California - U.S Cities
San Francisco, officially the City and County of San Francisco, is the financial, cultural, and transportation center of the San Francisco Bay Area, a region of 7.5 million people which includes San Jose and Oakland. The only consolidated city-county in California, it encompasses a land area of about 46.9 square miles (121 km2) on the northern end of the San Francisco Peninsula, giving it a density of about 17,179 people per square mile (6,632 people per km2). It is the most densely settled large city (population greater than 200,000) in the state of California and the second-most densely populated large city in the United States after New York City. San Francisco is the fourth most populous city in California and the 13th most populous city in the United States, with a population of 805,235 as of the 2010 Census. The San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont metropolitan area has a population of 4,335,391.
In 1776, colonists from Spain established a fort at the Golden Gate and a mission named for Francis of Assisi on the site. The California Gold Rush of 1849 propelled the city into a period of rapid growth, increasing the population in one year from 1,000 to 25,000, and thus transforming it into the largest city on the West Coast at the time. After three-quarters of the city was destroyed by the 1906 earthquake and fire, San Francisco was quickly rebuilt, hosting the Panama-Pacific International Exposition nine years later. During World War II, San Francisco was the port of embarkation for service members shipping out to the Pacific Theater. After the war, the confluence of returning servicemen, massive immigration, liberalizing attitudes, and other factors (Vietnam) led to the Summer of Love and the gay rights movement, cementing San Francisco as a center of liberal activism in the United States.
Today, San Francisco is one of the top tourist destinations in the world, ranking 35th out of the 100 most visited cities worldwide, and is renowned for its chilly summer fog, steep rolling hills, eclectic mix of architecture, and its famous landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, and Chinatown. The city is also a principal banking and finance center, and the home to more than 30 international financial institutions, helping to make San Francisco rank eighteenth in the world's top producing cities, eighth in the United States, and ninth place in the top twenty global financial centers. San Francisco has the 2nd highest per capita GDP in the United States after Washington, D.C. ( source Wikipedia )
