Sanctuary of Aphrodite at Palaepafos, Cyprus
Foam-arisen Aphrodite was born of the sea foam near Paphos, Cyprus after Cronus severed Uranus' genitals and threw them behind him into the sea, while the Erinyes emerged from the drops of blood. Hesiod's Theogony described that the genitals were carried over the sea a long time, and white foam arose from the immortal flesh; with it a girl grew to become Aphrodite. Aphrodite floated in on a scallop shell. When she arose, she was hailed as Cyprian, and is referred to as such often, especially in the poetic works of Sappho. This myth of a fully mature Venus (the Roman name for Aphrodite), Venus Anadyomene (Venus Rising From the Sea) was one of the iconic representations of Aphrodite, made famous in a much-admired painting by Apelles, now lost, but described in the Natural History of Pliny the Elder.
Palaepafos or Old Pafos (Paphos) was one of the most celebrated pilgrimage centers of the ancient Greek world and a former city - kingdom of Cyprus. Here stood the famous sanctuary of Aphrodite, the most ancient remains of which date back to the 12th century B.C. The glorious days of the sanctuary lasted until the 3rd to the 4th centuries. The museum, housed in a Lusignan Manor, exhibits many interesting finds from the area. Excavations continue on the site of the sanctuary, the city and the necropolis.

Kultur auf Zypern - The Sanctuary of Aphrodite - Koúklia
In Koúklia befindet sich das Heiligtum der Aphrodite. Leider ist von dem einstigen Tempel nur noch sehr wenig übrig geblieben. Im Mittelalter dienten die Ruinen des Heiligtums als Steinbruch für den Bau von Rohrzucker Raffinerien. Einige der Fundsachen wie z.B. spätbronzezeitliche Vorratsgefäße, Terrakotta Statuen, römische Münzen mit der Darstellung des Heiligtums sowie ein großes kegelförmiges Steinsymbol der Göttin befinden sich im Museum in Koúklia. Dennoch lohnt ein kurzer Besuch auch wegen dem im Mittelalter errichteten Gutsherrenhaus, welches sich am Ende der Ausgrabungsstätte befindet und vollständig erhalten ist.Wir haben die Tour mit Erzählreisen gemacht (erzaehlreisen.de).

Petra Tou Romiou (Rock of the Greek), or Aphrodite's Rock, is a sea stack in Pafos, Cyprus. Its status in mythology as the birth place of Aphrodite makes it a popular tourist location.
Birthplace of Aphrodite
Gaia (Mother Earth) asked one of her sons, Cronus, to mutilate his father, Uranus (Sky). Cronus cut off Uranus' testicles and threw them into the sea. A white foam appeared from which a maiden arose, the waves first taking her to Kythera and then bringing her to Cyprus. The maiden, named Aphrodite, went to the assembly of gods from Cyprus. The Romans widely referred to her as Venus.
Cult following
Aphrodite attracted a large cult following in Pafos, which was eventually crushed by the Romans. This is evident from the Sanctuary of Aphrodite in Old Pafos kouklia.
Aphrodite was known for lustful love more than romantic love.
