A drive out to Sand Point Lighthouse in Escanaba, MI at night. Enjoyed a beautiful sunset over the bay.
Sand Point Lighthouse, Escanaba Michigan
Sand Point Lighthouse has guided ships through squalls and shoals throughout its colorful history. A fire in 1886 destroyed the structure, but the lighthouse was rebuilt and served the sailing public until its decommissioning by the Coast Guard in 1939. Today an electronic club light guides boats into the harbor, and the lighthouse has been restored as a maritime museum.

This drive takes you on a scenic ride through the UP of Michigan along M-35, from Marinette and Menominee to Escanaba. The drive ends at the Sand Point Lighthouse.

I made this trip in July 2017. Video shot with a Brinno TLC-200 Pro time-lapse camera mounted on my roof with a homemade magnetic case. I travel with two Brinno cameras - one facing forward, the other in reverse. Sometimes the reverse camera captures better video (fewer raindrops and bugs hit the rear-view lens).

Ludington Park is located just east of downtown Escanaba, MI along Little Bay de Noc (Lake Michigan). I get to see both the beach area as well as Sand Point Lighthouse in the park.

Seul Choix Point Lighthouse (pronounced SIS-SHWA) in nearby Gulliver, Michigan was built to light the way for the increasing number of vessels carrying the iron ore that was being shipped out of Escanaba, MI. Seul Choix Point Lighthouse is now a community park for everyone to enjoy. Built in 1895 this light, whose name is French for only choice, was once the center of a thriving fishing community in the only harbor of refuge along this stretch of Lake Michigan. Today, the lighthouse complex is the only thing that remains active.

Ufos or Lanterns over Escanaba Michigan
I was driving in town at 11pm June 21st 2012 and noticed a bright red light in the sky. Went in its direction out of town and there was 3 objects. One had fadded away overhead as I pulled over and got my phone into camera mode. The lights seemed more red then they appeared in the video.
