Sandia Cave, New Mexico - 07 April 2019 4K
Sandia Cave, also called the Sandia Man Cave, is an archaeological site near Bernalillo, New Mexico, within Cibola National Forest. First discovered and excavated in the 1930s, the site exhibits evidence of human use from 9,000 to 11,000 years ago. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1961. The site is open to the public, up a difficult half-mile trail off New Mexico State Road 165. The last 3+ miles of the roadroad to get to the trailhead is unimproved and VERY rough - you can make it in a car but it will be slow going.
Albuquerque, New Mexico - Breaking Bad, Old Town, Nuclear Energy and Sandia Peak
Product: Country Bound Microfiber Towel
Today we explore Albuquerque, New Mexico. Being a Breaking Bad fan I started my day by visiting some of the show's locations, including Twister's also known as Los Pollos Hermanos, Walter Whites house, the Car Wash, and Hank's home. Then I went to Old Town, had lunch at the oldest house Church Street Cafe. Then I visited the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History, and finally took a ride on the Sandia Peak Tramway.

Video clips taken on June 12th 2009. I started down the Sandia Mountain Crest Spur Trail to locate an upper trailhead waypoint which leads down to a TWA Airline crash site. TWA flight 260 crashed into the side of the Sandia Mountain back in February 1955 killing all 13 passengers and three crew members on board. There is a plaque down there dedicated to it's memory along with a geocache. Also some remnants of the plane. I hope to get down there next time I'm up here. Hope to add a video of that experience later.

Drought sends a blow to NM recreation
third straight year of severe drought. that could have an impact on new mexico's tourism and recreation industries - a huge part of the state's economy. stuart dyson is live in the rio grande valley state park - the bosque - with what state leaders are hoping to do about it. they're focusing on all of the state's attractions that aren't necessarily aquatic - like museums and galleries and restaurants and cultural stuff - instead of relying so much on lakes and rivers and forests new mexico's forests are matchstick dry and could ignite with a single spark - it won't take much - fire restrictions vary from place to place so check before you light that campfire. for example here in the albuquerque bosque - the rio grande valley state park - campfires are always forbidden - camping too - no fireworks - and for you smokers - unh-unh- don't even think about IT! This year looks - in terms of the health of the forests - like it could be as bad as the other years - we just haven't had as much activity as we've had in prior years but the potential is certainly out there. FOUR STATE PARK LAKES are closed for boating - not enough water in clayton - conchas - storrie AND MORPHY LAKES. Elephant Butte - everybody talks about how low it is but actually it's not historically low - so it's kind of normal times for it - there's actually lots of acreage down there to boat on - Navajo - Ute Lake - all of these other lakes are in really good condition. HERE'S the butte last summer -at less than ten percent of its maximum capacity - we could be heading that way again later this year. for a desert state new mexico sure has a lot of boat freaks and here's an idea - if it's too shallow for your motorboat - why not learn canoeing or kayaking - okay okay - just an idea - that's all - back to you and pray for some more rain!

Bernalillo County Exploring Open Space Carlito Springs
Carlito Springs - (82 Carlito Springs Road)
Carlito Springs is 179 acres located on the Southeastern face of the Sandia Mountain Range.
Carlito Springs is located on the southeast face of the Sandia Mountains near the village of Tijeras. It encompasses 179 acres and ranges in elevation from 6,300 feet to 7,000 feet. It borders the Cibola National Forest to the north and northwest and private property on all other sides.
Bernalillo County purchased the initial 177 acres in 2000 and later acquired an adjoining two-acre tract in 2008 that includes its namesake spring.
Carlito Springs is named for the spring that flows from exposed bedrock in the north-central portion of the property. This spring once provided water to a residence and several cabins and continues to feed several ponds and a lush riparian environment that nourishes ornamental gardens and an orchard. This spring water also provide critical habitat for many species of birds and animals, including black bear, mountain lion, badger and mule deer.
Kayaking Destinations in New Mexico - Rio Grande Bosque, Albuquerque
The most frequently asked question I receive is Where do you kayak in New Mexico? There are literally hundreds of miles of rivers and thousands of miles of lake shorelines to explore by kayak, right here in New Mexico. Those living in Albuquerque or Santa Fe need not go far to find one of the most scenic destinations around; The Rio Grande Bosque, just North of Albuquerque, NM. Once on the river, the Bosque and nearby Sandia Mountains offer spectacular scenery year around for a truly remote wilderness feeling. Great for kids, novices, seniors and group outings. Brief video description of the tent loops of the campground

Dave V.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ Clean and close to the mountains and Albuquerque
CAMPGROUND REVIEW: Turquoise Trail Campground, Cedar Crest, NM
Turquoise Trail Campground is a small privately owned campground located five miles north of I-40 off Route 14 (exit 175) just outside the east side of Albuquerque. Tucked along the base of the Sandia mountains, at 6940’ elevation. (
There is plenty of visible signage to guide you down Snowline Dr into the campground.
As you approach the office/museum on the right, the RV/Camper loop is visible on the left (which appeared full). Behind the office building are two tent loops (upper and lower). There are two very clean bathroom/showerhouses located between the office and tent loops. A laundry room and dishwashing sink is located at the back of the office building. *This is also the only water access for the tent loops.
RV sites have full hookups. Tent sites have only a leveled, gravel tent pad, picnic table and standing grill. Only stove fires were permitted at our visit due to open fire restrictions.
Tent sites are separated by scrub brush, which offered partial privacy between most sites, but you will hear your neighbors. The outer tent sites back up to a residential area, with a fence separating. Bring earplugs for undisturbed sleeping, as road noise from Route 14 can be heard, along with local dogs randomly in the distance.
At $20 a night, the campground is convenient and sufficiently met our needs as we traveled west on a tight itinerary.
Shower tokens are provided with your nightly fee. Each token gives you 7 minutes of shower time.
There is plenty to do nearby, with bike trails and hiking trails…though nothing of particular interest in the campground itself.
The bustling city of Albuquerque is the next exit west, so you are still very close to shopping, eateries, and nightlife.

RV Nomad Life | Turquoise Trail RV Park Aerial/Tour
Turquoise Trail RV Park is located 15 minutes east of Albuquerque. This video contains aerial and a walking tour of the park.
The mountains block the noise and light from the city creating an amazing night sky full of stars! The RV Park is open year around, but can be considerably colder in the winter, at 7,000 ft elevation. The RV Park is located about 45 minutes from Sandia Peak Ski Area, and about 20 minutes from the entrance to Cibola National Forest.
