YEAR in CHINA Ep.2 pt.2 | WUXI and SHANGHAI during Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival
Exploring Wuxi and Shanghai during Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival. I went to places like Taihu Yuantouzhu Scenic Area, Sanshan Mountain Island and Nanchan Temple in Wuxi and Yu Garden, Nanjing Road, The Bund and The Urban Planning Exhibition in Shanghai.
I came to China for a Year in China student exchange programme and I am going to study at the Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU).
My major is Computer Science but during this year I am going to study Chinese and China Studies.

CNY Destinations
Places to visit in China during CNY
1. Moganshan
Quiet and almost dead, making it a peaceful getaway for anyone who hates the crowds. Be prepared for the unrelenting cold which you will face whilst climbing the mountain.
2. Beijing
Major tourist attractions will be full of tourists. Be prepared to be rubbing against the locals for most of CNY. However, lots of festivities to celebrate the new year.
3. Xi'an
Much the same as Beijing, lots of local tourists flock to Xi'an to see attractions such as the Terracotta Soldiers.
4. Suzhou
The Venice of the East. Suzhou should be relatively quiet during CNY. The Humble Administrators Garden and Tiger Hill should be great spots to visit. There is also ShanTang Canal which leads to Tiger Hill, be sure to take a boat along here.
SanShan Island is also a must to visit, however, a long way away from the city centre.
5. Xishuangbanna
Scenery is to die for and the tropical weather makes it a thousand times better to be than other colder cities in China. Tourists do not usually travel here during CNY, so being around the masses isn't a major issue.
6. Hong Kong
Dimsum. Shopping. Festivals. Victoria Peak. Disneyland. Ocean Park. Bars. Nightlife. Must I say more? Hong Kong is a popular destination during CNY, be prepared to be with the masses.
7. Guangzhou
Slightly less colder than most parts of China and the Dimsum there is great. The safari is something worth checking out while here.

Lined with the factories and warehouses that drove Shanghai to its international prominence, Suzhou Creek spent most of the 20th century slowly filling up with filth. The famously pungent river snaked shamefully from its source at Lake Tai down into the ever-changing city whose rampant pollution soiled its waters. In 1998, the government began a twelve-year project to clean up the river and beautify its banks. Reducing pollution and replacing aging buildings with parks, the project resulted in a relatively odourless stream with a functioning ecosystem; however, it is still not safe for people to swim in. In this artwork, the LED form of a struggling man is suspended over a fish-filled Suzhou Creek. He flails futilely in comic fear of falling into the stream. Most residents would agree—green spaces or not, the legacy of early industrial booms in the lazy little creek is more than enough to keep them out of the water.
Burning Man in China?! // Dragon Burn
In April I attended a festival called Dragon Burn, China’s regional Burning Man and it was such an insane, unique experience. Nestled in the forests of Zhejiang province we had to be completely self-sufficient for 3 days, bringing all our accommodation, food and drinks. It’s easily one of the best experiences I’ve had in China and it all ended with the amazing burning of a huge dragon effigy.
Check out this video to catch a glimpse of the magic that was Dragon Burn!
