Convent of Santa Barbara, A Coruña, Galicia, Spain, Europe
The convent of Santa Barbara is a cloistered convent located in the eponymous square in the Old City of Coruna. The convent was built over a century chapel XV next to the wall. Appears mentioned for the first time in a document of 1444 and its foundation was approved in 1491 by Pope Alexander VI. From the sixteenth century the convent consolidated and received a lot of donations. Also welcomed the nuns who arrived in 1682 to found the order of Wonders, and who settled in what was then the convent of the Capuchin. The building was modified and expanded multiple times. The medieval building is not conserved more than relief that presides over the door and it was placed there in 1613 and that could belong to a canopy or a grave Gothic fourteenth century. It represents one of the pilgrimage routes as penance for salvation. Show the Last Judgment and is chaired by the Trinity; Eternal Father holds the crucified Christ, accompanied by the moon and the sun. On the left, the archangel St. Michael weighs the souls of monks and pilgrims who are coming from the right, between trees. On the right appear San Miguel and a dragon. Inside, another relief (perhaps belonging to the primitive chapel) shows Santa Catarina and Santa Barbara. Also conserves a pointed arch. The building has a courtyard access to the church and a lookout tower. The canvas wall that closes the place to which they give the rooms of the nuns was designed by Fernando de Casas Novoa in the first half of the eighteenth century. The slowness of its construction in 1786 explains the date that appears on the front.

As faith declines in Spain, so do Seville's glorious convents
Everywhere you turn in Seville, Spain, there are reminders of a rich religious past, including its cloistered convents, which have been part of the fabric of the community for hundreds of years. Yet few women in Spain heed the call to join the sisterhood anymore, and once-bustling communities are now the victims of decay. Jeffrey Brown reports on efforts to save the endangered convents.

Places to see in ( Murcia - Spain ) Palacio Consistorial
The City Hall of Cartagena , also known as Cartagena City Hall , is one of the main modernist buildings of the city of Cartagena ( Region of Murcia ) built between 1900 and 1907, the work of the Valladolid architect Tomás Rico Valarino .
Due to the boom that reached the city in the early twentieth century , the old Herrerian town hall, from the sixteenth century , had remained small, so in 1900 began the construction of the new Palace on the land of the old, works that would end in 1907 .
It is a triangular building. The facade is made entirely of white marble , and the domes of zinc stand out on the roof . The whole exterior is decorated repeatedly with the emblems of the city: the Castle of the Conception of the shield of the city, and the mural crown , granted by the Roman general Scipio when he took the city of Carthago Nova .
In its interior it emphasizes the great imperial staircase around which are diverse municipal dependencies like the plenary hall and the office of the mayor. They are remarkable the works of foundry like columns and lamps and the collection of pictures of illustrious personages of the city from century XVIII .
Due to its construction on unstable lands gained to the sea, and to a deficient system of foundations, the building began to undergo important structural damages that led to a progressive process of ruin, reason why in 1995 the building was closed and works of restoration were undertaken .
Various legal problems with the contracting of works delayed the works for eleven years. In 2006, these works of restoration and consolidation were completed, and nowadays the building comes back to shine with the same splendor with which it was inaugurated one hundred years ago.

María Pita Square, A Coruña, Galicia, Spain, Europe
The Maria Pita square is probably A Coruna's main city plaza and takes its name from the town's heroine, Maria Pita. The square or plaza to which Pita gives her name is grand to say the least. The main entrance (which you approach from the city's harbour side) is distinguished and gives the impression that you are walking into a Royal court.

Places to see in ( Galicia - Spain ) Plaza del Obradoiro
Praza do Obradoiro is main square of the Santiago de Compostela old town, although not placed at the real centre. Plaza del Obradoiro lies to the West of the main façade of the Santiago de Compostela cathedral, and thus the Pórtico da Gloria must be crossed to get into the building from the square.
Plaza del Obradoiro is surrounded by four important buildings, said to represent the four powers of the city: the aforementioned Santiago de Compostela cathedral to the East (the Church), Hostal dos Reis Católicos (the doctors and bourgeoisie) to the North, Pazo de Raxoi (the government; after the Spanish transition to democracy was seat for the President of the Xunta of Galicia, nowadays the city council) to the West and the Colexio de San Xerome (the university) to the South.
Once being crossed by cars, now is mainly pedestrian as the rest of the old town, with only traffic for taxis and (un)loading delivery lorries. The floor is decorated by eight rays starting from the center, where a plaque commemorates the World Heritage Site pilgrims' way of Camiño de Santiago, whose final target is around here.
