The BEST of SANTIAGO ???????? Real Neighborhoods, Street Art, Parks & Food. Things to do in the city.
In this week’s video we pick up again in Santiago, Chile. This time around we decided to explore some of the trendier neighbourhoods of Santiago to find some fun things to in Santiago.
We start things off in the neighbourhood of Barrio Yungay. Yungay feels like a relatively quiet neighbourhood in Santiago full of amazing street art. If you’re a fan of street art and graffiti this is a must visit while in Santiago. We didn’t encounter too many other tourists and seemed to be mainly locals and families around. We visited a couple of parks including the Plaza Yungay as well as Parque Quinta Normal which happens to be one of the oldest parks in the city and contains a lake with old retro paddle boats. After exploring the park we found a little food truck park (Plaza de Bolsillo) where we had some chicken arepas.
After this we made our way to another part of the city called Lastarria. Lastarria is definitely more touristy but is also quite bohemian and trendy. We first came across a beautiful park called Santa Lucia Park that also had some beautiful fountains. Trevor needed a hair cut and we found a barber shop and craft beer called Barra Experimental. After this we walked around the Lastarria area where we came across street performers and vendors.

This is Santiago, Chile ???????? Safe? Beautiful? Must Visit? What to do in the city. Travel Guide
We spent a full day checking out some of major sights to try to find the best things to in Santiago de Chile.
We started out the day with a run and headed to the beautiful Parque Bicentario where we saw some beautiful views of the city and mountains. We ran around the park for awhile to see what it had to offer and came across some flamingos.
We picked up the video later in the day in the centre of town in the Plaza de Armas, which is the main square in Santiago. From here we picked up our Hop on Hop off tickets from Turistik Chile and immediate hopped on a bus!
To book your Santiago Hop on Hop off ticket visit here (we had the “plus” ticket):
The Hop on Hop off bus took us throughout a large part of the city where we got to see many of the important sites and also listen to an audio guide.
We got off at the tallest building in Latin America called the Costanera Centre (Gran Torre). Here we bought tickets to the observation deck called Sky Costanera. The observatory is this highest in Latin America and offers amazing views of the city and Andes Mountains.
After this we walked to the cable car to make our way up Cerro San Cristobal, a park on a hill in the middle of the city. The tickets to the cable car were included in our Hop on Hop off ticket and also included the funicular down the hill.
Up at the top of Cerro San Cristobal you’ll find beautiful views of the city. You’ll also find a church as well as a statue of the Virgin Mary which you can see from the ground in most of the city.

The BEST WALKING TOUR of Santiago City!!! (298 | Chile Travel VLOG)
27 September 2019 - Day 36 - Santiago
VLOG 298
This morning we are on the hunt for my Rode Microphone which I so stupidly broked on my way to the airport. Audio just isn’t the same once you use a microphone and I can’t go back to a internal mic. I bought this mic for $220AUD but in Chile the offical price is 208,000 - $430AUD!!! They pretty much jack it way up being an Australian company and shipping to the other side of the world! I thought about it for a sec but a bit of common sense prevailed.????
Being a bright and glaring afternoon I search my bag my sunnies and find the case empty. I LEFT THEM ON THE TOP OF SANTA LUCIA HILL!!! ????????????. I couldn’t believe it. My beloved sunnies which I’ve had with me since South East Asia and have brought all the way around the world with me. ????????I was devastated such a silly mistake made by myself. Easily replaceable item however the sentimental value that it held, I literally needed a moment. ????????
This afternoon we take a 3hr walking tour around #Santiago and visit the main sites of Bellas Artes, Plaza de Armas, La Moneda, GAM and Lastarria! A very fun and informative tour with #tours4tips its an awesome way to get around and break the surface of a brand new city. It made sense of the areas and the things I’ve seen over the last few days and even got to catch the subway with the group rather than trying to figure it out on my own.????
It just made me realise how much I still need to read and catch up on Chile’s rich cultural and political history, from the Incas to the Spanish conquest, and from their socialist president Allende to their authoritarian dictator Pinochet!! You know what I’ll be watching on YouTube tonight!! ????????▶️

A day in Santiago
Set on a wide plain near the foot of the Andes, Santiago boasts one of the most dazzling backdrops of any capital city on earth. Chile's capital is a dynamic, modern city where colonial mansions sit among soaring skyscrapers, folk art becomes fashion and Latin and European cultures intertwine. The city is reinventing itself, with arts, nightlife, and restaurant scenes that have never been better, making this thriving and sophisticated metropolis into the civic, cultural, and historical nucleus of the country. Enjoy it all while gazing up at the peaks of snow-dusted Andes range surrounding the city's extremities.
The views onto the towering cordillera after a rainstorm clears the air are magnificent, especially in winter, when the snow-covered peaks rise behind the city like a giant white rampart against the blue sky (though smog, unfortunately, often obscures such vistas).
Santiago is divided into 32 autonomous comunas, most of them squat, flat suburbs stretching out from the centre. The historic centre, in contrast, is compact, manageable, and has a pleasant atmosphere. Part of the appeal comes from the fact that it’s so green: tall, luxuriant trees fill the main square, and there are numerous meticulously landscaped parks.
You can get round many of Santiago’s attractions on foot in two to three days. A tour of the compact core, centered on the bustling Plaza de Armas, should include visits to the Palacio de la Moneda, the excellent Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino and the evocative Museo Colonial, followed by a climb up Cerro Santa Lucía. .
North of downtown, on the other side of the Río Mapocho, it’s an easy funicular ride up Cerro San Cristóbal, whose summit provides unrivalled views. At its foot, Barrio Bellavista is replete with cafés, restaurants, bars and clubs, plus the former home of poet Pablo Neruda, now a wonderful museum.

Chile: Santiago tour offers a glimpse into the countrys protests through street art
Subscribe to our channel! rupt.ly/subscribe
Since protests began in October, parts of the Chilean capital of Santiago have been transformed into a colourful canvas for artists and protesters to voice their demands on, and has now become a popular tourist attraction, as footage shoot on Saturday shows.
As tour coordinator Francisca pointed out Our new artists are the same people who have taken to the streets to demonstrate... their demands are being expressed in different types of formats and that is what its beautiful bout what we are seeing every day and that’s what we’re telling and showing on this tour.
“The idea is that the story of this tour, which we have developed alongside history teachers, is to take a look back to our past and understand why we have gotten to where we are today, added tour guide Camila.
The tour was reportedly put together as a non-profit collaborative project comprised of artists, historians and tour guides, and offers tourists an inside look into the “social demands that mobilize” the country.

Chile - Santiago - City tour part 1 - South America, part 73 - Travel video - HD
Founded on February 14, 1541 by Pedro de Valdivia at the base of Cerro Santa Lucia along the bank of the muddy Mapocho river, Santiago was nearly destroyed by Mapuche Indians six months later. It was rebuilt over the years, surviving floods, earthquakes, wars and more natural calamities and is now one of the largest cities of South America. Santiago is Chile's cultural, commercial, industrial and political center. Growth over the lst decades has produced high rises, a large population (6 million), traffic and all too often, smog that obscures the snow-capped Andes.
Santiago is a cosmopolitan city, with ample restaurants, bars, hotels, shopping from tiny boutique and craft fair to giant shopping mall. There are cultural attractions such as art galleries, museums, theaters, opera and ballet, lively nightlife, plus parks, tree-lined streets and distinct neighborhoods. You'll see brand new high rises and large supermarkets next to old, shabby buildings. You'll have to fend off vendors and peddlers on the busses, but ride in peace and comfort on the subway system.

Santiago De Chile Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Santiago de Chile.
Santiago De Chile, the capital of Chile, is dignified, modest and European-looking and also lively, modern and full of Latin temperament, a city that has many green areas and a history that covers five hundred years. The Plaza De Armas is the heart of the city and the historic centre of colonial Santiago that contains the city’s most important buildings. The Museo Histórico Nacional is located in the Palacio Real Audiencia. It contains around twelve thousand exhibits that feature Chile’s history from pre-Columbian times right up to the twentieth century. Strikingly dressed in black and white uniforms and brown caps, the soldiers of the guard march across the Plaza De La Constitution towards the La Moneda Palace, an elongated, strictly classical building whose white façade looks almost kitsch with the blue sky as its backdrop. Following restoration work, General Augusto Pinochet moved in and it has been the seat of government ever since. Dictatorship transformed into democracy! The Parque Forestal is situated on the northern edge of the city centre along the Rio Mapocho, a park complex with various varieties of tree. Amid all the green is the German Fountain with, at its centre, a ship with heroic figures and huge birds of prey. Today, the city is looking good and although with colonial roots, Santiago De Chile is now open-minded, modern and cosmopolitan.

Santiago is the capital and largest city of Chile. It is the center of Chile's largest and the most densely populated conurbation. The city is entirely located in the country's central valley, at an elevation of 520 m (1,706 ft) above sea level.
Founded in 1541 by the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia, Santiago has been the capital city of Chile since colonial times. The city has a downtown core of 19th-century neoclassical architecture and winding side-streets, dotted by art deco, neo-gothic, and other styles. Santiago's cityscape is shaped by several stand-alone hills and the fast-flowing Mapocho River, lined by parks such as Parque Forestal. The Andes Mountains can be seen from most points in the city. These mountains contribute to a considerable smog problem, particularly during winter. The city outskirts are surrounded by vineyards and Santiago is within a few hours of both the mountains and the Pacific Ocean.

Santiago, Chile Travel - Bellavista Barrio (Neighborhood)
A bohemian neighborhood full of art galleries, restaurants, and bars.
Let's take a tour of the fascinating neighborhood of Bellavista in the city of Santiago. The neighborhood of Bellavista was founded in 1891 by the same owner of the vineyard (?). Bellavista has a strong Bohemian feel, there are many old, beautiful buildings and it is very popular amongst the artists. We are in the residential neighborhood of Bellavista. Lots of pretty houses, tree lined streets, it does not get much better than this.
Look, we even found a spider web gate. Not surprisingly there are many art galleries and theaters all around Bellavista. One of Bellavista's most popular attractions, just might be Pablo Neruda's house La Chascona. Pablo Neruda is Chile's Noble Prize winning poet. Outside his house you can find plaques engraved with his poetry. The house is shaped like a boat and it contains all of Pablo Neruda's antique collection, it is also open to the public. Here, we can see Pablo Neruda's emblem. See these old warehouses? They are actually Rock music venues.
Bellavista is also the place to find Lapislazuli Jewelry. Lapislazuli is a beautiful blue gem stone found only in Chile and Afghanistan. You can find the Lapislazuli shops all along the Mayan history. When you are shopping for Lapislazuli, remember, all these shops have around the same prices and the same merchandise. At night, Bellavista really comes alive. This is what Bellavista is like at night full of night clubs, pubs and restaurants. The party here starts at eleven o'clock and do not worry because the bars close at four. The national drink here is the Bisco Sour. I am Helia Goodman, showing you Santiago.

Walk through Barrio Bellavista neighborhood in Santiago, Chile [HD video]
Bellavista stuns with its colourful streets, its fanciful architecture and the lushness of a colossal tree-clad hill, the Cerro San Cristóbal, as a natural backdrop. No wonder it was here that Pablo Neruda, Chile's famous Noble-laureate poet, decided to build his home in the capital in the 1950s. On lazy, sunny days, this barrio feels like a village miles away from the roaring noise of la Alameda -- even if it's only a short walk away. Yet it's not Bellavista's daytime cuteness that pulls the punters. The area's numerous snazzy bars, restaurants and cafés heave with crowds every weekend night as the barrio reaches fever pitch.

The BEST Traditional Chilean Food in Santiago, Chile at Peumayen Restaurant
One of our biggest passions while traveling is trying local food! This is hard in Chile, where our inquiries about the best local foods were often met with “wouldn’t you prefer sushi?” or “maybe try going to Peru, they have amazing food there.”
Luckily, there’s an incredible restaurant that lets visitors try traditional Chilean food and local Chilean ingredients! Peumayen is deeply rooted in indigenous Chilean traditions, while still being willing to play, experiment, and be creative. We LOVE this restaurant!
If you’re interested in trying other traditional Chilean foods, we really recommend finding sopaipillas (fried flatbread traditionally made with pumpkin, but now sometimes made with orange dye instead) and mote con huesillos (a popular drink containing soaked wheat and a whole peach). There aren’t many Chilean street foods, at least not compared to places like Thailand and India, but you can find both sopaipillas and mote con huesillos sold by street vendors!
Check out Peumayen here:
Let us know in the comments if you want to see a list of all the bites we tried at Peumayen! We also always want to hear about your suggestions for local foods!

Santiago, Chile - Walking to Costanera Center, the tallest building in South America
It also has the largest shopping mall in South America. I just found this out.
According to Google and Wikipedia, it says Costanera Center is the tallest building in Latin America. Wikipedia says the shopping mall is the largest in South America.
I've been having problems with my camera not staying level for a couple months now. Sometimes I rotate the video during editing and zoom in. This of course lowers the quality sometimes. I can only rotate the video to a certain extent. So, sometimes it still looks crooked.
