IGLESIA DE SANTO DOMINGO.Lisboa(Portugal)
La iglesia de Santo Domingo (Portugal), fue construida en 1595, con un estilo arquitectónico entre el Dórico y el Neoclásico. Su estructura fue afectada por los terremotos de 1595,1647,1730 y 1755. Ardió cuatro veces, en 1895,1954, 1959 y 1963 quedando la Iglesia como está actualmente. Sus columnas y sus paredes muestran su historia de Terremotos y de Fuego. Se optó por dejarla como se muestran en estas imágenes.

We went to visit the Santo António Church which is a Roman Catholic church located in Lisbon, Portugal. It is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Lisbon. According to tradition, the church was built on the site where the saint was born, in 1195.

Further if you keep going upwards you'll find Sé De Lisboa. The Lisbon Cathedral, often called simple the Sé, is a Roman Catholic church located in Lisbon, Portugal. The oldest church in the city is the see of the Archdiocese of Lisbon.

Further on you get to a great viewing point Miradouro das Portas do Sol giving you a view of Church of São Vicente of Fora, Church of Santa Engrácia and the pretty little portuguese houses situated near the River Tagus. We actually went here twice. The location was perfect to fly my Mavic. so come next morning we go down there, get the Mavic in the air and in came flying every bird that was around to attack the drone.
However we met a lovely lady that morning, Anastasia Zinchenko. She's a scientist with a PhD in biochemistry. Her YouTube channel covers very interesting videos on nutritional food, science and evidence based health topics.

The next church you see is The São Domingos church in Lisbon, Portugal. It is classified as a National Monument. The church was dedicated in 1241 and was, at one time, the largest church in Lisbon. This landmark Roman Catholic church was rebuilt after earthquakes & a fire.

Now you cannot miss this bit...on the opposite of this church is a little open fronted bar serving the best local Ginjinha wine. Ginjinha or simply Ginja, is a portuguese liqueur made by infusing ginja berries (Morello cherries).

The Charred Saint Dominic Church, Lisbon, Portugal (2013/03/27)
My second favorite church in Lisbon, completely blackened and damaged by fire, and not yet redecorated with the typical ostentatious style seen in churches throughout the city. I really like the dark, dungeon-like feel of this church. I hope it never gets restored.
Loulé - Algarve (Portugal)
LOULÉ é uma cidade portuguesa no distrito de Faro, Algarve, sede do maior município algarvio. O município de Loulé engloba duas cidades, Loulé e Quarteira. Nele se localiza o Santuário (2:48) de Nossa Senhora da Piedade (Mãe Soberana), a Igreja (3:11) de S. Lourenço (Almancil), bem como alguns dos locais mais turísticos do país como é o caso de Vilamoura, que é o maior complexo turístico da Europa.
DIGNO DE NOTA:
1) O edifício do Mercado é um local emblemático da cidade (0:07).
2) O poeta popular António Aleixo, natural de Vila Real de Santo António, foi viver para Loulé ainda em criança. Costumava frequentar o Café Bar Calcinha pelo que existe uma estátua sua em frente a este Café (1:03).
3) O Eng. Duarte Pacheco, natural de Loulé, foi Ministro num Governo dos anos 30, e dedicou-se às Obras Públicas tendo deixado um trabalho digno do maior reconhecimento (2:10).
4) A festa da Mãe Soberana é a festa anual dedicada a Nossa Senhora da Piedade. No domingo de Páscoa a imagem da Nossa Senhora é levada do seu Santuário (2:48) até à igreja de São Francisco. Quinze dias depois, regressa ao Santuário. Neste vídeo, a imagem da Santa está na Igreja de São Francisco (1:23).
5) A Igreja de São Lourenço (3:11) é uma outra igreja famosa situada na freguesia de Almancil e data de finais do século XVII. Merece especial destaque o revestimento integral da igreja (incluindo a cúpula), por azulejos. Não é permitido fotografar dentro da igreja.
LOULÉ is a Portuguese city in the district of Faro, Algarve, and headquarters of the Algarve's largest municipality. The municipality of Loulé includes two cities: Loulé and Quarteira. In this municipality we find the Shrine (2:48) of Our Lady of Mercy (Sovereign Mother), the Church (3:11) of St. Lawrence (Almancil), as well as some of the most touristic places in the country such as Vilamoura, which is the greatest touristic complex in Europe.
NOTEWORTHY:
1) The Market building is an emblematic place in town (0:07).
2) The folk poet António Aleixo, despite being born in Vila Real de Santo António, went to live in Loulé in childhood. He used to go to the Café Bar Calcinha so we find there his statue, in front of the Café (1:03).
3) Eng Duarte Pacheco, born in Loulé, was Minister in a Government of the 30s, and devoted himself to Public Works having left a work worthy of the highest recognition (2:10).
4) The Celebration of Sovereign Mother is the annual feast dedicated to Our Lady of Mercy. On Easter Sunday, the image of Our Lady is taken from the Sanctuary (2:48) to the church of St. Francis. Fifteen days later, it returns to the Shrine. In this video, the image of Our Lady is in the Church of St. Francis (1:23).
5) The Church of St. Lawrence (3:11) is another famous church located in the town of Almancil and dates from the late seventeenth century. It deserves special mention the full coating (including the dome) of the church, by tiles. Photographs are not allowed inside the church.

De salientar:
A pintura barroca sobre o arco triunfal, evocativa do Juízo Final. As três naves que compõem o corpo interior da igreja, separadas por arcadas de colunas jónicas. A Capela-mor de abóbada de meio-canhão, com retábulos de talha dourada de estilo barroco. As capelas colaterais, cobertas por cúpulas de quartelas, têm no interior retábulos de pedra em estilo renascentista coimbrão.

Oct 12 - Our Lady Aparecida - 1717 - Brazil
According to the account of the discovery of the statue in October 1717, Dom Pedro de Almeida, Count of Assumar and Governor of the Province of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, was passing through the area of Guaratinguetá, a small city in the Paraíba river valley, during a trip to Vila Rica, an important gold mining site.
As the people of Guaratinguetá decided to hold a feast in his honour, three fishermen, Domingos Garcia, João Alves, and Filipe Pedroso went down to the Paraíba waters to fish. The fishermen prayed to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception that God would grant a good catch. The fishermen, having a run of bad luck, cast their nets in the River Paraiba and dragged up a headless statue of the Virgin Mary. They also salvaged the head and, according to the legend, then netted plenty of fish. After cleaning the statue, they found that it was a black version of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. Legend has it that when the fishermen recovered the body, then the head, the slender figure of the Aparecida Virgin became so heavy that they couldn't budge it.
The fishermen named the statue Nossa Senhora da Conceição Aparecida (English: Our Lady of the Conception who appeared). Neighbors began to venerate the statue, which came to be known as Our Lady of Aparecida, and devotion grew. The first chapel was built in 1745.

The Estrela Basilica was built by
order of Queen Maria I of Portugal,
as a fulfilled promise for giving birth to a son
(José, Prince of Brazil). Construction started
in 1779 and the basilica was finished in 1790,
after the death of José caused by smallpox in 1788.
The huge church has a giant dome, and
is located in a hill in what was at the time the
western part of Lisbon and can be viewed from far away. The style is in late baroque and neoclassical. The front has two twin bell towers and includes statues of saints and some allegoric figures. A large quantity of grey, pink and yellow marble was used in the floor and walls, in intricate geometric patterns. The roof provides stunning
views of Lisbon and the dome is open for touring.

Inauguração do órgão de tubos do Santuário de Fátima
Oliver Latry, organista na Catedral de Notre Dame (Paris, França), inaugurou no domingo, 20 de março, o grande órgão de tubos do Santuário de Fátima. Depois de uma requalificação profunda do instrumento emblemático da Basília de Nossa Senhora do Rosário, o organista encheu o templo com um concerto musical.
