The Saratoga National Historical Park, NY, United States.
A quick tour of the Saratoga National Historical Park, Stillwater, NY, United States.
This is an important battlefield site because it was the site of the Battles of Saratoga, the first significant American military victory of the American Revolutionary War in 1777. Basically the hotch potch American militia fought and comprehensively beat the might of the British Army.
I literally had 45 minutes to run around the park before it was closed up so I couldn't really give a good summary of events here in 1777. All I will say is the park is a beautiful location to visit, has plenty of nice views (and walking routes) and a centre with lots of info (which I didn't have time to absorb properly).

Schuylerville Central School District Helps Launch U.S. Mint’s Saratoga Quarter
Hundreds of people packed the auditorium and gymnasium at Schuylerville High School on Tuesday, Nov. 17, to witness the unveiling of the 30th coin in the U.S. Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarters program. The district was asked to host the ceremonial release of the 2015 Saratoga National Historic Park quarter, which depicts the world-altering 1777 British surrender at Saratoga.
“We were honored to be part of this historic event,” Principal Matthew Sickles said. “An event like this shows our students that significant moments in history happened in our own backyard.”
The commemorative quarter launch showcased the many talents of Schuylerville students. The high school symphonic band performed the national anthem and several patriotic songs, the vocal ensemble sang America the Beautiful and provided narration from several important moments in history, and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Schuylerville High School senior and Saratoga National Historical Park volunteer McClean Pink.
“I was honored to be part of the ceremony and lead the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance,” Pink said. “It was great to see the Schuylerville community come together to mark such an exciting moment in history.”
Schuylerville students currently studying U.S. history (grades 4, 7, 11, 12) were in attendance and every student in the district received a newly minted Saratoga quarter. Glens Falls National Bank was on hand for community members to exchange bills for rolls of Saratoga quarters.
ABOUT THE SARATOGA QUARTER
The coin’s reverse (tails side) design depicts a close-up of the moment General John Burgoyne surrendered his sword to General Horatio Gates, a turning point many believe marked the ‘beginning of the end of the American Revolutionary War’. The coin was designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist Barbara Fox and engraved by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Renata Gordon.
The America the Beautiful Quarters Program is a multiyear initiative to honor 56 national parks and other national sites in each state, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories. Each year until 2020, the bureau will release five new quarters with reverse designs representing select national sites. The final coin in the program will be released in 2021.
“Having Saratoga National Historical Park chosen among all of the national sites in New York to represent the state on the America the Beautiful quarter is a momentous occasion,” said Amy Bracewell, Saratoga National Historical park superintendent. “The significance of the American victory at the Battles of Saratoga in 1777 still rings true today as we continue to formulate the ideas of freedom and liberty in this country.”

Homestead National Monument of America, a unit of the National Park System, commemorates passage of the Homestead Act of 1862, which allowed any qualified person to claim up to 160 acres (0.65 km2) of federally owned land in exchange for five years of residence and the cultivation and improvement of the property. The Act eventually transferred 270,000,000 acres (1,100,000 km2) from public to private ownership. The national monument is four miles west of Beatrice, Gage County, Nebraska on a site that includes some of the first acres successfully claimed under the Homestead Act. The national monument was first included in the National Register of Historic Places on October 15, 1966 (ID 66000115)
Kisatchie National Forest, the only National forest in Louisiana, United States, is located in the forested piney hills and hardwood bottoms of seven central and northern parishes. It is part of the Cenozoic uplands (some of Louisiana's oldest rocks) and has large areas of longleaf pine forests (a forest type that has declined significantly over the last century). It is one of the largest pieces of natural landscape in Louisiana, with some 604,000 acres (2,440 km2) of public land, more than half of which is vital longleaf pine and flatwoods vegetation, which support many rare plant and animal species. There are also rare habitats such as hillside seepage bogs and calcareous prairies. The forest also contains and provides a buffer for the Kisatchie Hills Wilderness, a nationally designated wilderness area that contributes to protecting biodiversity of the coastal plain region of the United States.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a National Parkway and All-American Road in the United States, noted for its scenic beauty. The parkway, which is America's longest linear park, runs for 469 miles (755 km) through 29 Virginia and North Carolina counties, mostly along the Blue Ridge, a major mountain chain that is part of the Appalachian Mountains. Its southern terminus is on the boundary between Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Cherokee Indian Reservation in North Carolina, from which it travels north to Shenandoah National Park in Virginia and offers access to the Skyline Drive. While the two roads join together end-to-end, they are separate and distinct entities, built as two different projects and managed by two different National Park Service units. The Blue Ridge Parkway was built to connect Shenandoah National Park to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The parkway, while not a National Park, has been the most visited unit of the National Park System every year since 1946 except two (1949, 2013). Land on either side of the road is owned and maintained by the National Park Service and, in many places, parkway land is bordered by United States Forest Service property. The parkway is on North Carolina's version of the America the Beautiful quarter in 2015.

The Refuge was purchased from local land owners with federal duck stamp funds.Today, the refuge protects wildlife of all kinds, with emphasis on all migratory birds. The refuge also contains the Allee House, a pre-revolutionary war farmhouse on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a stop on Delaware's Coastal Heritage Greenway.

20 people now US Citizens
STILLWATER -- This 4th of July, dozens of new United States citizens are celebrating a new beginning. One Naturalization Ceremony took place Saturday morning at the Saratoga National Historical Park, honoring 20 new U.S. citizens.
The journey was long for Sayeda Quayyum to reach this point. She is now one of those 20 new citizens. Originally from Bangladesh, she says she'll now be able to live her dreams.
Just taking the oath and completing the process and I'm really excited about my new responsibilities and as well as the opportunities that I have right now, she says.
As an accountant she's ready to get to work here in the Capital Region, now that she has her certificate in hand.
I get to learn the most up to date accounting process and everything here so this is actually what brought me here and I am sure I will be able to pursue my dreams here, she adds.
She joined 20 others who became citizens at this ceremony. Including David Csescnok, who was originally here as a student from Hungary.
I also feel that I probably deserve this because it's been a long way. Right now I feel like I'm free to travel back and forth and I can spend so much time in Europe I can come over here whenever I want and obviously I am going to stay much more time here in the US after this and it's great, he says.
And with 13 toasts to Independence, the Capital Region now had 20 new citizens sworn in.
