A quick tour of the Saratoga National Historical Park, Stillwater, NY, United States.
This is an important battlefield site because it was the site of the Battles of Saratoga, the first significant American military victory of the American Revolutionary War in 1777. Basically the hotch potch American militia fought and comprehensively beat the might of the British Army.
I literally had 45 minutes to run around the park before it was closed up so I couldn't really give a good summary of events here in 1777. All I will say is the park is a beautiful location to visit, has plenty of nice views (and walking routes) and a centre with lots of info (which I didn't have time to absorb properly).

New York City Ballet
New York City Ballet (NYCB) is a ballet company founded in 1948 by choreographer George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein. Léon Barzin was the company's first music director. Balanchine and Jerome Robbins are considered the founding choreographers of the company. City Ballet grew out of earlier troupes: the Producing Company of the School of American Ballet, 1934; the American Ballet, 1935, and Ballet Caravan, 1936, which merged into American Ballet Caravan, 1941; and directly from the Ballet Society, 1946.
History
In a 1946 letter, Kirstein stated, The only justification I have is to enable Balanchine to do exactly what he wants to do in the way he wants to do it. He served as the company's General Director from 1946 to 1989, developing and sustaining it by his organizational and fundraising abilities.
The company was named New York City Ballet in 1948 when it became resident at City Center of Music and Drama. Its success was marked by its move to the New York State Theater, now David H. Koch Theater, designed by Philip Johnson to Balanchine's specifications. City Ballet went on to become the first ballet company in the United States to have two permanent venue engagements: one at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater on 63rd Street in Manhattan, and another at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, in Saratoga Springs, New York. The School of American Ballet (S.A.B.), which Balanchine founded, is the training school of City Ballet.
After the company's move to the State Theater, Balanchine's creativity as a choreographer flourished. He created works that were the basis of the company's repertory until his death in 1983. His vision influenced dance both across the United States and in Europe. He worked closely with choreographer Jerome Robbins, who resumed his connection with the company in 1969 after having produced works for Broadway.
NYCB still has the largest repertoire by far of any American ballet company, and it often stages 60 ballets or more in its winter and spring seasons at Lincoln Center each year, and 20 or more in its summer season in Saratoga Springs. City Ballet has performed The Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream and many more. City Ballet has trained and developed many great dancers since its formation. Also, many dancers with already developed reputations have joined City Ballet as principal dancers.

Thirty two teeth in a jawbone
Alabama cryin' for none
Before I have to hit him
I hope he's got the sense to run
Reason those poor girls love him
Promise them anything
Reason they believe him
He wears a big diamond ring

Only way to please me

Sit down and have a drink with me
What's this about Alabama
Keeps comin' back to me?
Heard your plea in the courthouse
Jury box began to rock and rise
Forty-nine sister states all had
Alabama in their eyes

Only way to please me
Turn around and leave

Why don't we just give Alabama
Rope enough to hang himself?
Ain't no call to worry the jury
His kind takes care of itself

Reserve me a table for three
In the Valley of the Shadow
Just you, Alabama and me

The Truth About George Washington
George Washington was unanimously elected as the first president of the United States of America after winning the American Revolutionary War as the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army.
Washington was first called Father of his Country three years after the beginning of the Revolutionary War – a status he earned not only for his military accomplishments, but also because of the numerous virtues he was perceived to possess as a human being.
But within Washington's impeccable character, one quality stood out the most – a unique immunity to the corrupting effects of power, which stemmed from his selfless nature. I often say of George Washington that he was one of the few in the whole history of the world who was not carried away by power, stated Robert Frost, America's great poet-philosopher.
After overthrowing the tyranny of the British Empire, Americans were unwilling to trust anyone with the power of a central government, yet in George Washington they saw a man who had transcended human fallibility. Had he lived in the days of idolatry, the Pennsylvania Journal noted in 1777, Washington would have been worshipped as a god.
How could such a man ever abuse his power, let alone become a tyrant? Furthermore, if men like Washington exist and can be elected into power, perhaps the United States government would never follow in the footsteps of the hated British Empire.
Does the mortal George Washington live up to his immortal legend? What is the Truth About George Washington?

Albany Tulip Festival in the capital city of Albany, New York, USA,
The Tulip Festival is Albany’s signature spring event. Featuring annual traditions rooted in the city’s rich Dutch heritage, nearly one hundred artisans selling their handmade crafts, a fine arts show, delicious food, the KidZone family fun destination, two stages of world-class live entertainment and more than 140,000 tulips in 150 different varieties, the Tulip Festival is a sparkling showcase of local culture and business. It all takes place in historic Washington Park, the 81-acre “crown jewel” of the City.
Mayor Erastus Corning 2nd declared the tulip as Albany's official flower on July 1, 1948, there has been a Tulip Festival every year since.
On July 11, 1948 Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands selected the Orange Wonder, an 18-inch tall tulip that is orange-shaded with a scarlet toward the center as Albany's tulip.
The first Tulip Fest was celebrated the next year on May 14, 1949 with opening ceremonies still carried on today as tradition, such as the sweeping of State Street and the crowning of a Tulip Queen.
In 1997 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the festival the state of New York designated Albany as the I Love New York Spring Destination
For the 50th anniversary a descendant variety of the Wonder Orange tulip was found in the Netherlands, and the new variety was named City of Albany
