Living on the land at Sauer-Beckmann Farm
The Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm at Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site gives us a glimpse into the life of a 1900-era farmstead in Central Texas. Volunteers and rangers where period clothing and recreate the daily life of a 1900-1918 Texas farm. They raise vegetables in the garden (no modern chemicals used) and gather eggs from the chickens. Even in the Texas summer, they use a wood stove for cooking and canning.
You can learn more at tpwd.texas.gov
The Sauer-Beckman farm is open every day except Thankgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.

A colorful Texas tradition: Travelogue through Schulenburg's painted churches
- When immigrants from Moravia found passage into Galveston, the Ellis Island of the South, many headed for the Texas Hill Country bringing a piece of their homeland with them. They may not have had the cash or the access to materials to recreate their houses of worship, but they were ingenious enough to fashion another solution — with paint.
Joel Luks, hosted by the Greater Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce and the Architecture Center of Houston, explores four of these charming buildings and the stories behind them with local expert Patricia Balcar.

LBJ State and National Historical Parks: Visit Fredericksburg TX
Lyndon B. Johnson, our 36th president, grew up in the Texas Hill Country. The LBJ Ranch in Stonewall, just 15 miles east of Fredericksburg, was where he was born, lived and was buried.
The National Park Service owns the LBJ Ranch, which is still a working ranch. You can tour the Ranch at your own pace, in your own vehicle, and stop at sites along the way, such as the President's birthplace, the Johnson family cemetery and the Johnson's ranch house, also known as the Texas White House. You can even take ranger-guided tours of the Texas White House daily.
Adjacent to the national park is the state park, where you can fish, swim, picnic and study nature. The state park is famous for its spring wildflowers. You'll also see abundant wildlife such as white-tailed deer, as well as bison and Texas longhorn cattle.
You'll definitely want to visit the Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farmstead. This farm presents life as it was in 1918. Park interpreters wear period clothing, do the farm and household chores and conduct tours too.
To enjoy both parks , obtain a free driving permit at the LBJ State Park and Historic Site Visitor Center.
Put a little history in your vacation plans, and visit us at the Lyndon B. Johnson State and National Historical Parks.
