What we did most Sunday afternoons during the month of March 2012 while we were anchored off La Cruz. Andante is right out in the middle of those sailboats you can see through the entrance. Hey, what about that 200# Yellowfin Tuna?

A Day in a Mexican Fishing Village (La Cruz de Huanacaxtle)
Welcome to La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Nayarit! If you are looking for a sleepy little seaside village to retire in Mexico, La Cruz is your place! La Cruz has the benefit of having a beautiful marina, some really pretty beaches, and great proximity to the Puerto Vallarta airport- but is FAR from the crowds of Puerto Vallarta and Sayulita.

Travel Secrets TV offers quality advice and objective information for tourists and people who want to retire in Mexico. The shows also deals with unsubstantiated travel warnings and negative press reports about the safety situation in Mexico. The primary goal of Travel Secrets Mexico is to restore trust in Mexico's tourism.
La Cruz de Huanacaxtle (The Cross of Huanacaxtle) is a Mexican fishing village situated on the Pacific Ocean's Bahía de Banderas in the state of Nayarit. It is situated approximately 25 km from Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. The town name comes from a cross that is made of Huanacaxtle wood which is located at the town's entrance.
Tradition has always been one of the essential characteristics of la Cruz de Huanacaxtle. A fishing village for generations, this town has been modernized thanks to the construction of the Riviera Nayarit Marina —the largest and most modern of the corridor—, which has created a destination that harmoniously combines the traditional life of a Mexican pueblo with the sophistication of a development such as the Marina. So, when visiting La Cruz, as the locals call it, you will have the opportunity to witness postcardworthy scenes such as the arrival of fishermen on the pier in their boats loaded with a variety of fish.
You can also admire a beautiful sunset as you savor a margarita in the Sky Bar located inside the Marina. “We seek contact with authentic Mexico,” expresses Rafael Alcántar, Harbor Master of the La Cruz de Huanacaxtle Marina, the most modern on the Mexican Pacific with a capacity of 400 ships measuring between 30 and 400 feet.
The marina is equipped with all the services needed for a comfortable stay: bathrooms and showers, security, electricity and fueling stations. This modern development also has a yacht club, business center, sky bar, restaurant, seafood market, pier and one of the best equipped shipyards in the country, which, among other things, is home to the largest travel lift on the Pacific. And aiming to spur additional growth of the Riviera Nayarit, a plan has been set in motion to house commercial spaces within the Marina for the market’s most recognized name brands, condominiums and restaurants.
Enjoy activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving and surfing (in winter the waves reach heights adequate for this sport), and of course fishing, one of the main activities of La Cruz thanks to the abundance of species such as tuna, marlin and mahi-mahi. Upon arriving in Destiladeras, you will be enraptured not only by the beautiful scenery of the bay, but also by the family-friendly and welcoming ambiance that can be felt all along the fivekilometer (three-mile) beach. It is common to see groups of young people and children playing with a ball, building interesting sand castles or jumping into the waves with their boogie boards.

Epic Mexican Feast in Puerto Vallarta
If you're one of the approximately 100% of humans who love Mexican food, then learning how to make it yourself is the next step. In this Puerto Vallarta travel vlog, we do a Mexican cooking class to find out how our favourite dishes come together. We first walk to a market to buy fresh food supplied by local farmers and pick up vegetables, fruit, chicken, fish, and cheese. We meet a man selling grasshoppers, which are a popular snack, so we decided to give them a try. Then we stop by a tortilla factory where we try a tortilla so fresh it's almost too hot to hold. Chef Julio Cesar of Gaby's Restaurant guides us all the way. After shopping, we cook on the veranda with a view of the ocean and palm trees. It's really fun to see fresh ingredients go from the market to the table and all the steps in between. If you already love cooking, like me, then a class like this is a no brainer. But, even if you don't typically love being in the kitchen, a class like this is a great opportunity to connect with Mexican culture in a delicious way.
Huge thank you to the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board and ENroute Communications for inviting us to experience Puerto Vallarta and to Gaby's Restaurant for teaching us how these delicious Mexican foods are made.
