Scarborough 2019 Travel Guide All You Need To Know
Scarborough, the backdrop for the BBC TV Series starring Jason Manford and Catherine Tyldesley.
If you are wanting to know what to do in Scarborough then I will tell you all you need to know in this Scarborough 2019 Travel Guide. All You Need to Know about Scarborough in Yorkshire England.
I'll show you the best places for fish and chips in Scarborough.
Scarborough is called the “Queen of the Yorkshire Coast” and is made famous with the song recorded by Simon and Garfunkel titled simply “Scarborough Fair” with the lyrics to a tale of a young man love for a woman he once met at the Scarborough market.
There are 2 bays to Scarborough, the South bay and the North Bay, I will show you both bays and what to do and where to go in Scarborough.
I'll also take you on the Scarborough Victorian Central Tramway.
Central Tramway is Scarborough’s Victorian cliff railway on the historic South Bay. Opened in 1881 the company carries 500,000 passengers a year and is preserving the heritage of the site for future generations.
If you like miniature railways, then you are in for a treat as I will take you on a train ride on The North Bay Railway in Scarborough.
North Bay Railway is a miniature railway in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England. It was built in 1931, to the gauge of 20 in, and runs for approximately ⁷⁄₈ mile between Peasholm Park and Scalby Mills in the North Bay area of the town.
Scarborough also has a magnificent park called Peasholm Park which I will show you around.
Peasholm Park is an oriental themed municipal park located in the seaside town of Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England. It opened in 1912 and became a favourite venue for galas, displays and exhibitions. The park was extended to include Peasholm Glen, a natural ravine, in 1924.
I will also take you on a walk to The Lighthouse in Scarborough to see the iconic Diving Belle where I will also point out Scarborough Castle.
Scarborough Castle is a former medieval Royal fortress situated on a rocky promontory overlooking the North Sea and Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England.
If you have children then I will show you Luna Park on Sandside in Scarborough.
A Modest funfair featuring rides for children & adults, plus snacks & arcade games.
I'll also take you on a Pirate Boat Ride on the North Sea in Scarborough.
I also take a visit to Papas Fish and Chip Shop in Scarborough which was voted Britain's best fish and chips as seen on the BBC.
I also make a wish on Zoltar and wish I was Big.
I'll also take you to the Freddie Gilroy Statue.
Freddie Gilroy and the Belsen Stragglers' is a giant steel structure made by Ray Lonsdale, an artist, fabricator and sculptor and is now on permanent display, thanks to the generosity of a local Scarborough resident.
The sculpture is based on a retired miner Ray became friends with who turned out to also be one of the first soldiers to relieve the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp at the end of World War II.
This piece of art is not just about Freddie Gilroy but represents all the normal people that were pulled out of an ordinary life and forced into a very extraordinary and dangerous one during the World Wars.
I also show you The Scarborough Bathing Belle.
The Bathing Belle represents Scarborough at the start of her popularity as a spa town and the UK's first sea bathing resort, while The Diving Belle, installed on Vincent Pier last year, represents Scarborough in the 21st Century, moving confidently into the future.
I'll also show you The Scarborough Open Air Theatre.
Scarborough Open Air Theatre is not only host to summer’s biggest shows, but is the largest open air theatre in Europe! Elton John, Britney Spears, Noel Gallagher and Lionel Richie are just a few of the amazing acts that have come to perform here in Scarborough!
Press play and sit back and enjoy what to do in Scarborough, where to eat in Scarborough, where to go in Scarborough.

We visit Scarborough Castle. We parked at the sea front and walked up to the castle. What a long way up! There is actually a car park by the caste too. Brilliant views all around from the castle.
Scarborough Castle stands on a massive promontory of rock that rises above the North Sea. Its 12th-century great tower is the centrepiece of a royal castle begun by Henry II. It became one of the greatest royal fortresses in England and figured prominently in national events during the Middle Ages. Its buildings are mostly relatively recent additions to a site which, as a natural fortress, has been intermittently inhabited and fortified for nearly 3,000 years.

Places to see in ( Yorkshire - UK ) Scarborough Castle
Scarborough Castle is a former medieval Royal fortress situated on a rocky promontory overlooking the North Sea and Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England. ] The site of the castle, encompassing the Iron Age settlement, Roman signal station, an Anglo-Scandinavian settlement and chapel, the 12th-century enclosure castle and 18th-century battery, is a scheduled monument of national importance.
Fortifications for a wooden castle were built in the 1130s, but the present stone castle dates from the 1150s. Over the centuries, several other structures were added, with medieval monarchs investing heavily in what was then an important fortress that guarded the Yorkshire coastline, Scarborough's port trade, and the north of England from Scottish or continental invasion. It was fortified and defended during various civil wars, sieges and conflicts, as kings fought with rival barons, faced rebellion and clashed with republican forces, though peace with Scotland and the conclusion of civil and continental wars in the 17th century led to its decline in importance.
Once occupied by garrisons and governors who often menaced the town, the castle has been a ruin since the sieges of the English Civil War, but attracts many visitors to climb the battlements, take in the views and enjoy the accompanying interactive exhibition and special events run by English Heritage.
Scarborough Castle location takes advantage of a naturally defensive site on a headland with steep cliffs, 300 feet (91 m) high, on three seaward sides. The promontory is joined to the mainland by an isthmus, where a ditch or moat was cut, and a wall or palisade with a gatehouse built on the southwest landward side. The stone curtain wall dates from the late 12th and early 13th centuries when it was strengthened by the addition of twelve round towers at intervals on its 230 yards (210 m) length.
Scarborough Castle site, a scheduled ancient monument managed by English Heritage since 1984, is host to various events, usually in summertime, such as pirate and Robin Hood-themed activities. The castle grounds are reputed to be haunted – by three ghosts, among them a Roman soldier. The 18th-century Master Gunner's House, now a museum, has an exhibition whose centrepiece is a Bronze Age sword discovered in 1980. English Heritage invested £250,000 in making the site a tourist attraction.

ENGLANDS TOUGHEST CASTLE? Scarborough Castle - History
Today we bring you our video from the amazing and incredible Scarborough Castle. Recently we visited, and were fascinated to find out the rich history of this fortification. It has been besieged a number of different times, in particular in the English Civil War, and was even fired upon by German Battleships in World War 1. It is estimated that around 500 shells were fired upon the castle. Is it England's toughest castle? It's definitely up there. Join us as we explore thousands of years of history, and give you a tour of the magnificent Scarborough Castle.

Whitby is a seaside town, port and civil parish in the Scarborough borough of North Yorkshire, England. Situated on the east coast of Yorkshire at the mouth of the River Esk, Whitby has a maritime, mineral and tourist heritage. Its East Cliff is home to the ruins of Whitby Abbey, where Cædmon, the earliest recognised English poet, lived. The fishing port emerged during the Middle Ages, supporting important herring and whaling fleets, and was where Captain Cook learned seamanship. Tourism started in Whitby during the Georgian period and developed with the arrival of the railway in 1839. Its attraction as a tourist destination is enhanced by the proximity of the high ground of the North York Moors national park and the heritage coastline and by association with the horror novel Dracula. Jet and alum were mined locally, and Whitby Jet, which was mined by the Romans and Victorians, became fashionable during the 19th century.
The earliest record of a permanent settlement is in 656, when as Streanæshealh it was the place where Oswy, the Christian king of Northumbria, founded the first abbey, under the abbess Hilda. The Synod of Whitby was held there in 664. In 867, the monastery was destroyed by Viking raiders. Another monastery was founded in 1078. It was in this period that the town gained its current name, Whitby (from white settlement in Old Norse). In the following centuries Whitby functioned as a fishing settlement until, in the 18th century, it developed as a port and centre for shipbuilding and whaling, the trade in locally mined alum, and the manufacture of Whitby jet jewellery.
The abbey ruin at the top of the East Cliff is the town's oldest and most prominent landmark. Other significant features include the swing bridge, which crosses the River Esk and the harbour, which is sheltered by the grade II listed East and West piers. The town's maritime heritage is commemorated by statues of Captain Cook and William Scoresby, as well as the whalebone arch that sits at the top of the West Cliff. The town also has a strong literary tradition and has featured in literary works, television and cinema, most famously in Bram Stoker's novel Dracula.
While Whitby's cultural and historical heritage contribute to the local economy, the town does suffer from the economic constraints of its remote location, ongoing changes in the fishing industry, relatively underdeveloped transport infrastructure, and limitations on available land and property. As a result, tourism and some forms of fishing remain the mainstay of its economy. It is the closest port to a proposed wind farm development in the North Sea, 47 miles (76 km) from York and 22 miles (35 km) from Middlesbrough. There are transport links to the rest of North Yorkshire and North East England, primarily through national rail links to Middlesbrough and road links to Teesside, via both the A171 and A174, and Scarborough by the former. As at 2011, the town had a population of 13,213.
