Places to see in ( Dresden - Germany ) Schlossplatz
Places to see in ( Dresden - Germany ) Schlossplatz
The Schloßplatz is a city square in the center of Dresden, Saxony, Germany. It gets its name from the Dresdner Schloss, the royal residence of the Electors and Kings of Saxony, which faces the south side of the square.
The Schloßplatz is further bounded by the Katholische Hofkirche, the Sächsische Ständehaus, the Georgentor, and Augustus Bridge the over the River Elbe. Dating from the 15th century, the square was destroyed in Bombing of Dresden in World War II. In recent years the buildings surrounding the square have largely been restored so that the area again has a historic character.
A bronze statue of Albert of Saxony by sculptor Max Baumbach was inaugurated in 1906 in front of the Georgentor and was melted in 1945 after being severely damaged. Stone friezes on the base were restored in 1990 on the original site. A sculpture by Ernst Rietschel of Frederick Augustus I The Righteous in seated position now stands on the site of the old Albert statue. This monument had been located at the Dresden Zwinger since 1843, and later was moved to the Japanisches Palais.
Through the efforts of the city, the Saxon Academy of Fine Arts, and private sponsors it was moved to this prominent spot in 2008. The consecration on 29 May 2008 included a performance of the Weih-Hymne by Richard Wagner, who had composed the piece on the occasion of the sculpture's original unveiling in 1843.
Outside the main entrance of the Katholische Hofkirche is a paving stone marked with an N. This indicates the spot where Napoleon Bonaparte paraded his troops and set off for the Battle of Dresden on August 26, 1813, in which he was victorious.

Dresden celebrates Christmas with a giant Stollen
Dresden celebrated a traditional German dessert with a festival featuring a giant Stollen in the city's Schlossplatz square. Dresden has the largest number of Christmas markets in the eastern part of the country and this is one of the oldest seasonal events in Germany.
A stollen is made with flour, yeast and water and becomes a rich, sweet bread that can be filled with anything from fruits and nuts to marzipan. This year's giant Stollen weighs 1.8 tonnes and contained 3,600 eggs, 326 churns of milk, 1,000 kilos of flour, and took 150 bakers and their assistants a whole week to bake. The court architect, Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann, designed an oven and a special knife for the giant dessert.
Once complete, it was brought to Augustus in a procession and paraded on the back of a carriage pulled by eight horses.

DRESDEN A walking tour around the city / Ein Rundgang durch die Stadt / Un paseo por la ciudad
Photographic travel guide across the Art and Architecture highlights of the city of Dresden (Germany / Deutschland).
Music from the composer Roger Subirana.
Dresden is the capital city of the Free State of Saxony (Sachsen) in Germany. It is situated in a valley on the River Elbe, near the Czech border. The Dresden conurbation is part of the Saxon Triangle metropolitan area with 2.4 million inhabitants.
Dresden has a long history as the capital and royal residence for the Electors and Kings of Saxony, who for centuries furnished the city with cultural and artistic splendour. The city was known as the Jewel Box, because of its baroque and rococo city center. A controversial Allied aerial bombing towards the end of World War II killed 25,000 civilians and destroyed the entire city center. The impact of the bombing and 40 years of urban development during the East German communist era have considerably changed the face of the city. Some restoration work has helped to reconstruct parts of the historic inner city, including the Katholische Hofkirche, the Semper Oper and the Dresdner Frauenkirche.
Since German reunification in 1990, Dresden has regained importance as one of the cultural, educational, political and economic centers of Germany and Europe. The Dresden University of Technology is one of the 10 largest universities in Germany and part of the German Universities Excellence Initiative.
The video consists of a slideshow of pictures taken during a visit to the historic inner city and includes several interesting buildings, streets and monuments:

EXPLORING GERMANY's most spectacular city centre ⛲ (STUTTGART), Schlossplatz or Palace Square
SUBSCRIBE: - GERMANY's most spectacular city centre (STUTTGART), Schlossplatz or Palace Square. Stuttgart's Palace Square is the vibrant heart of the city, but at the same time it's a place to linger, within easy walking distance of many of the city's attractions. Palace Square is therefore Stuttgart's hub and an integral part of any stroll through town. Stuttgart's Palace Square is a place both to celebrate and relax. Open-air concerts are held here at regular intervals against the backdrop of the New Palace and at the beginning of August Stuttgart's Summer Festival transforms Palace Square and the Upper Palace Gardens into a gaily lit, elegant promenade.
manufacturing hub. Mercedes-Benz and Porsche have headquarters and museums here. The city is filled with greenspaces, which wrap around its center. Popular parks include the Schlossgarten, Rosensteinpark and Killesbergpark. Wilhelma, one of the largest zoos and botanical gardens in Europe, is just northeast of Rosenstein Castle.
Germany is a Western European country with a landscape of forests, rivers, mountain ranges and North Sea beaches. It has over 2 millennia of history. Berlin, its capital, is home to art and nightlife scenes, the Brandenburg Gate and many sites relating to WWII. Munich is known for its Oktoberfest and beer halls, including the 16th-century Hofbräuhaus. Frankfurt, with its skyscrapers, houses the European Central Bank.

Places to see in ( Dresden - Germany )
Places to see in ( Dresden - Germany )
Dresden, capital of the eastern German state of Saxony, is distinguished by the celebrated art museums and classic architecture of its reconstructed old town. Completed in 1743 and rebuilt after WWII, the baroque church Frauenkirche is famed for its grand dome. The Versailles-inspired Zwinger palace houses museums including Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, exhibiting masterpieces of art like Raphael’s “Sistine Madonna.”
There are few city silhouettes more striking than Dresden’s. The classic view from the Elbe’s northern bank takes in spires, towers and domes belonging to palaces, churches and stately buildings, and indeed it's hard to believe that the city was all but wiped off the map by Allied bombings in 1945.
Dresden's cultural heyday came under the 18th-century reign of Augustus the Strong (August der Starke) and his son Augustus III, who produced many of Dresden’s iconic buildings, including the Zwinger and the Frauenkirche. While the devastating 1945 allied firestorm levelled most of these treasures, their contents were safely removed before the bombings and now take pride of place in Dresden's rebuilt museums.
The city has had a few tough years of late, however. In 2014, a populist protest movement called PEGIDA (Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West), was founded here and quickly became a nationwide phenomenon. But although the city, once known as the 'Florence of the North', gave birth to this anti-Islamic movement, the overwhelming majority of Dresden's residents do not agree with its message. It's hard to find a single museum, cultural institute or university here that isn't bedecked with large signs declaring support for multiculturalism, welcoming migrants and generally subverting the PEGIDA message, which itself seems to have lost public support in the intervening period. Dresden and its surroundings may have been nicknamed the valley of the clueless under communism (due to locals not being able to pick up West German TV), but its public institutions now proclaim themselves für ein weltoffenes Dresden ('for a Dresden open to the world'). Take some time to get to know this fascinating, contradictory city.
Dresden is a very beautiful, light spirited city, especially in summer, when you can appreciate the serene setting of the historic centre. Although Dresden is larger than Munich when measured by area, the historic centre is quite compact and walkable. Be sure to check out these places while in Dresden. Alot to see in Dresden such as :
