Scuba diving Koh Samui Thailand 2016
Diving with the Dive Academy 18 March 2016 at the Island Koh Tau north end about 60Km and 1:20 hrs from Koh Samui, was a pleasure. All gear was already loaded on to the boat and all we had to do, was to jump on-board their specially built speed boat
called Midnight blue that took us there very fast and safe.
The first dive was at the Chum Phon Pinnacle in the north end of the island.
The weather was fantastic and the sea very calm. Water was a thundering +30 deg C and visibility about 25 meters. We got down to about 20m and had a total time of 33 minutes. Brandon was the dive master and we were 4 divers with him.
There was plenty of corals and fish life and one of the fishes I have not seen earlier was the Bar-Tailed Goatfish. (probably common there). Many nice Butterfly fish, Trigger fish, Bat fish and lots lots more. It was a nice and slow dive, which gave us plenty of time to look around and see things.
We then had a nice lunch on-board, anchored to the beach. After lunch we when to a place called Shark Island, but we did not see any sharks there he he he........ This dive was shallower to about 11m. The visibility was about 12-15m. There was lots of groups of brown corals, which had plenty of fish around them. This dive was also very nice and relaxed and we got about 42 minutes of the dive. Diving with the Dive Academy is something I certainly can recommend, as they are all very professional people and take great care of you.

Scuba Diving in Koh Samui Thailand
Scuba diving in koh samui thailand water. Thailand has some of the finest and most beautiful beaches and islands in the world, surrounded by crystal clear water and stunning coral, and that is the main reason why the number of divers coming to Thailand has escalated over the past decade or so.
Even though the best time of the year to dive in Thailand is between October and June, it is possible to dive virtually any day of the year. As Thailand is considered one of the safest destinations for diving and snorkeling in the world, it is perfect for first-timers wanting to try these pastimes out.
The sea visibility in some places is up to 30 m – unheard of in many parts of the world. One can enjoy splendid sights of underwater mountains, coral gardens, undersea rock formations, hard and soft coral, whale sharks, silver tip sharks, manta rays and even sunken battleships.

Ko Samui Day Trip To Ko Tao & Nang Yuan Island Thailand | Things to do in Ko Samui & Ko Pha-ngan 4K
Ko Samui day trip to Ko Tao and Nang Yuan Island - For those travelers looking for things to do in Koh Samui. Just off the coast of Ko Samui in Thailand, check this video out. We were looking for something to do during our stay in Ko Samui and decided to look into a day trip to Ko Tao, taking the Koh Samui Ferry over to Ko Tao for some snorkeling in Ko Tao. Snorkeling in Thailand is amazing as is, but Nang Yuan Island Snorkeling was pretty amazing and ended up being a perfect little day trip for us.

***PLENTIFUL TRAVEL PRO TIP: Bring your own snorkeling gear with you so you do not have to rent a pair of used ones and can use anywhere you want.
Available on Amazon.com:
You can only get to Ko Tao by boat. Coming from Ko Samui, it's around 500 baht for a one-way ticket and about a 1 ½ to 2-hour boat ride over to Ko Tao and Nang Yuan Island. The ferry stops at Ko Pha-ngan and Koh Nang Yuan Island before arriving at the pier in Ko Tao.
*****PRODUCT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A DAY TRIP TO KO TAO*****
-A beach towel:
-Water socks or sandals:
-GoPro camera:
-Portable lightweight Travel Backpack:
Boats leave several times throughout the day with the earliest ferry leaving Ko Samui at 8am and heading back from Ko Tao around 3:30pm so if you are making a day trip there without staying the night, you will have only around 4-5 hours at most on the Island.
Upon arrival to Ko Tao, you will see many shops, restaurants/bars, and hotels. We stopped to grab some food and then chose to rent a longtail boat to tour around Ko Tao and Nang Yuan Island. This is really a better option than doing a group tour and you can find many longtail boat drivers for 2,000-4,000 baht (depending on the length of tour and group size).
Watch our full Thailand vacation video here:
Our longtail boat left from Mae Hat Beach and headed out around Ko Tao. We first stopped at a place called Mango Bay, which was a perfect area for snorkeling. There was only 1 other person there while we were, but the Bay is plenty big so you really had the place to yourselves there at Mango Bay.
From there we headed to Koh Nang Yuan Island, which is a small island off the coast of Ko Tao. There is actually a fair amount of things to do on Koh Nang Yuan Island. We snorkeled some more, but people choose to spend the day here (the ferry over from Ko Samui actually stops at Koh Nang Yuan Island). You will also find scuba divers enjoying the clear waters surrounding the island.
If you spend the day on Koh Nang Yuan Island, you can enjoy the beach, the bar/restaurant at the resort, hike up to the Koh Nang Yuan Island viewpoint for some views of the Koh Nang Yuan Island. If you do want to enjoy Koh Nang Yuan Island, there is a $10 fee to step foot on the island and you better get there early to beat the crows of people.
Once back on Ko Tao, you will likely not have a lot of time left before the ferry heads back to Ko Samui. Also, with the last ferries leaving Ko Tao around the same time, the docks will be packed with visitors standing in line waiting to board the ferry back to Ko Samui and Ko Pha-ngan.
With the time that we had left on Ko Tao, we walked around to some shops and restaurants and enjoyed some drinks. Before departing back to Ko Samui, we stopped at a convenience store right off the pier in Ko Tao to grab some beers to enjoy on the trip back. The ferry stops again at Koh Nang Yuan to pick up passengers there, as well as Ko Pha-ngan before returning to Ko Samui.
