Russia: Putin and Patriarch Kirill bless new monument to Vladimir the Great
President Vladimir Putin unveiled a new monument to the Russia's first Christian leader Vladimir the Great in Moscow, on Friday. The opening ceremony took place just in few meters from Kremlin walls and coincided with the Russian National Unity Day.
Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russian): Your Holiness. Respected Muscovites! Dear friends!
I greet and congratulate you on the opening of the monument to Saint Equal-to-apostles Prince Vladimir. This is a big and significant event for Moscow, for the whole country and for all Russian compatriots. It is symbolic that it is being held on the National Unity Day here in the centre of the capital near the walls of the ancient Kremlin, in the heart of Russia.
Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russian): The strong moral support, cohesion and unity helped our ancestors to overcome difficulties, to live and to win for the glory of the Fatherland, to strengthen its power and greatness from generation to generation. And today it is our duty to stand together against modern threats and challenges basing on spiritual precepts, invaluable traditions of unity and concord and to move forward ensuring the continuity of our thousand-year history.
Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Russia (Russian): The monument to Prince Vladimir is a symbol of the unity of all the peoples to whom he is farther. This is the peoples of the historical Rus’ currently living within the borders of many states. The monument to the farther may be everywhere where his children live. There is no contradiction in it. But it is bad if children forget that they have the only father.

Запрещённая память чеченских войн / The banished Memory of Chechen Wars

The elaborate graves of the Russian mafia have been captured on camera by a 45-year-old professional photographer from Moscow.
The photographer, who wishes to remain anonymous, visited five Moscow cemeteries on the hunt for the notorious mobs and stumbled across a handful of prominent members of the mafia.
During his visits to the cemeteries located at Armenian, Lyublinkoye, Kuzminskoye, Lyublinkoye and Vagankovskoye the photographer captured shots of the ornate statues of the infamous criminals, surrounded by floral tributes.
However it was not an easy task, some sections of the cemeteries are heavily guarded, meaning most of the areas are out of bounds to the public.

Pesnya goda ( song of the year ) 1976.
Den Pobedy (Russian: День Победы, English: Victory Day) ranks among the most popular in the large corpus of Russian songs, devoting to Second World War. The song refers to the Victory Day (9 May) celebration and differs from most of these by its cheerful intonations of a marching song and by the fact that it was composed some thirty years after the war. In the words of Vladimir Shainsky, a veteran composer, the song seemed to have turned back the time. Although written three decades after the war, it now seems that it was this song that helped us to gain the victory.

A 94-year old granny who was among the first women to vote in Italy in 1948 is running for the city council elections in the Italian city of Reggio Emilia, footage filmed on Tuesday shows.
Maria Teresa Branduzzi, who spent many years working as a teacher and unionist in Sardinia and northern Italy, later travelled and lived in London, Paris, Berlin, Switzerland and California before returning to her native Reggio Emilia, where she is now ready for the electoral challenge.
That of Salvini is a strategy of fear, of closure. He speaks of sovereignty, does it mean breaking away [from Europe]? Does it mean to take decisions for ourselves? And this, I don't like it, said Branduzzi, who is a vocal critic of Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini.
The 94-year old, who has a pro-European stance and was a left-wing activist in her youth, thinks that Europe should be improved upon: I do not like this excessive war against Europe. We shouldn't make a war against Europe, we always need to improve it, to suggest topics and different solutions to conflicts, we should not leave Europe. To me Europe is fundamental.
Branduzzi will run with the small party Reggio è which is affiliated to the left-wing Democratic Party, backing the re-election of Reggio Emilia incumbent mayor Luca Vecchi.
Her party's programme is focused on granting free-access to kindergartens, improving housing policies, employment support and environment protection.

SUMMARY
=======
Russia (Russian: Росси́я, tr. Rossiya, IPA: [rɐˈsʲijə]), officially the Russian Federation (Russian: Росси́йская Федера́ция, tr. Rossiyskaya Federatsiya, IPA: [rɐˈsʲijskəjə fʲɪdʲɪˈratsɨjə]), is a transcontinental country in Eastern Europe and North Asia. At 17,125,200 square kilometres (6,612,100 sq mi), Russia is by a considerable margin the largest country in the world by area, covering more than one-eighth of the Earth's inhabited land area, and the ninth most populous, with about 146.77 million people as of 2019, including Crimea. About 77% of the population live in the western, European part of the country. Russia's capital, Moscow, is one of the largest cities in the world and the second largest city in Europe; other major cities include Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg and Nizhny Novgorod. Extending across the entirety of Northern Asia and much of Eastern Europe, Russia spans eleven time zones and incorporates a wide range of environments and landforms. From northwest to southeast, Russia shares land borders with Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland (both with Kaliningrad Oblast), Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia and North Korea. It shares maritime borders with Japan by the Sea of Okhotsk and the U.S. state of Alaska across the Bering Strait. However, Russia recognises two more countries that border it, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, both of which are internationally recognized as parts of Georgia.
The East Slavs emerged as a recognizable group in Europe between the 3rd and 8th centuries AD. Founded and ruled by a Varangian warrior elite and their descendants, the medieval state of Rus arose in the 9th century. In 988 it adopted Orthodox Christianity from the Byzantine Empire, beginning the synthesis of Byzantine and Slavic cultures that defined Russian culture for the next millennium. Rus ultimately disintegrated into a number of smaller states; most of the Rus' lands were overrun by the Mongol invasion and became tributaries of the nomadic Golden Horde in the 13th century. The Grand Duchy of Moscow gradually reunified the surrounding Russian principalities and achieved independence from the Golden Horde. By the 18th century, the nation had greatly expanded through conquest, annexation, and exploration to become the Russian Empire, wh ...
